How rediculous?

  • Hey, as long as it's fantasy armor, then that guy can be fantasy strong.  Or, it could simply be magic armor.  To me, it looks like this guy is meant to be on a line with about 40 other guys just like him that act as a mobile wall for the archers to hide behind.  The poor guy probably mostly takes the frontline beating until he finally drops from exhaustion or tramples over the last of the pawns.  He's that soldier that is there not for speed, but for shear intimidation.  Those poor serfs with nothing but bits of leather to protect them, break like waves on the rocks.  All this guy has to do is stand still until they wear themselves out, then crack a few skulls at his leisure.

    :)

Now there's an idea. The guy is a Rook. His helmet ought to have crenelations like a castle.

...granted, I'm not all that big on high fantasy myself but even so, all the hefty, foreboding looking plating covering the body but almost no head, and literally, no face protection.

One skinny wood elf archer hiding in the woods with a well placed arrow shot, and "lights out".

Sort of like an APC with cinematic sugar glass in the windscreen.

  • Dunno if anyone mentioned it, but the dude has glowing eyes so I think it's assumed he is a demigod or something else with superhuman strength.

Incidently; He appears to be single wielding a greatsword. He has his foot directly on top of a fire pit which would never be placed on the floor like that (there is no way this would be up to modern building codes for the construction of a dungeon or lair, but it would depend on the year of it's completion, would be tough getting insurance though). Massive heavy armor and no helmet, also the shield is way too small. The only thing missing is the female version of this outfit with identical defensive stats, but is basically just a metal bikini.

Not now, I only wear flats can no longer wear heels in my dotage

    but

in my early thirties I chased a bag snatcher in a shopping centre carpark and almost caught up to him before he got in a waiting car

(not sure what I would have done catching him was thinking hair eyes balls)

    not my bag

anyway afterwards a couple of witnesses were astounded I could run so fast in stiletto heels!

Way cool but it needs a helmet!

For those people that need an example of useful critique, this is much more how it should be done.

It's not "I hate it, you've done it all wrong, go and do it again", it's a specific suggestion of how to build upon the product.

  • Leaving off whether it's preactical or not, the whole point of buying anything here is whether you can use it or not.  I tend to use a lot of ridiculous looking figures, and yes, I can find a use for that armor.  It also would make a pretty good boss level type character since those are ALWAYS ridiculous looking.

....for myself, nothing induces fear more than seeing one of those big black SUVs with blacked out windows and a "roo bar" on the front cruising slowly by.

  • Nothing says dont mess with me more than wearing someones head as fashion statement

    What other imagery inspires fear?

    Heres one....

LOL at 42, it would absolutely terrify me. And I know... the thought of ME... the Mistress of Evil, being terrified by a plastic thing with lines. Its utterly rediculous :P

HAHAHAH @ IgnisSerpentus  thats so funny you almost made me pee my pants laugh

  • Before this gets too acrimonious - it's a fantasy. As others have said, you will see a lot of things like this in games and anime and certain schools of illustration. Of course you can also have fantasie in which the armour is more or less inspired by real historical armour, or takes account of the weight of the materials, and that's also legitimate. By all means lobby for the latter, but please do it without attacking the former (or skimparmour) - different people have different tastes, different things that look cool and different things that break the suspension of disbelief.

and don't forget people actually make and wear this stuff - cosplayers at conventions I can post tons of examples pictures and videos

This is a great thread. If I'd won the lottery,  I'd buy it and render Floyd supervising the school washrooms. Sword a bit OTT, but we have a lot of knife crime over here in the UK.

One of the things this armor reminds me of is a joke from the seventies or there about.  "How do you kill a blonde.......Put spikes on her shoulder pads!"

  • there's a few cosplayers here wearing armor and big bulky complex costumes in this, may not be real armor but still a lot would still be fairly heavy and are bulky even some kids wearing them true hate to need to go to the toilet though must be hard though here they kinda solved one part in some events even for the ladies by using a funnel - maybe that's built into some of these armors and the futuristic ones probably have a built in toilet can't remember what the technical name is could be what that cylinder is on the lower back of Stormtroopers armor is, and what Darth Vader uses. And in Davor's (from Doctor Who) chair as well as a lot of cyborgs or soldiers in armor have, their waist is extracted in a tube and they just toss it away when full and put in new one. And the medievil ones probably had little hidden openings spouts like teapots and when they went to the toilet they could sing a little song

     I'm a little teapot
    Short and stout
    Here is my handle

    Here is my spout

When I get all steamed up
    Hear me shout
    "Tip me over
    and pour me out!"

I do have to admit that the detail and workmanship on this is exceptionally well done.  The 2 different pouches and the textures of the wood and leather are impressive.  This PA did a very good job on the details.  Also it isn't as bad as some other armors I've seen in this store or others.  That said, If I saw that on the battlefield, I would not be intimidated, I'ld cut off the top of his head as he stood and tried to lift his arm.  I used to do sword fighting.

The figure that is related to toss is over 7 feet tall though, maybe he thought no one would reach the head. I am going to play a bit with the rescue of the Orleans armor helmet, the shape fits pretty well.

Check your history, armored knights didn't do so well at Crecy. Just sayin'

It's not redonkulous.  It's a WoW tank with the helmet visibility turned off.  Think of it as a continual Taunt - "Bet you can't head shot me!"  laugh

I know someone who was in SCA and during one battle, someone managed to knock one of his helmet horns off.  The rest of the battles, everyone kept trying to take the other one off and they were all so distracted by it that he was able to easily dispatch them.

I already picked up the armor and I'm wondering how well it'll autofit to G8F.  I'd much rather render this than an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny little chainmail bikini.
