    Yeah not finding a good diagrammatic image I can share

    there are plenty but full of copyright terms 

  • I've had a look and can see that the 3-ply plait has an X, Y frequence of, say 1 and a Y of 0.5 - I'll have a go...

    I made a plait curve brush for Zbrush but I used 3Dcheapscate’s mesh from shareCG as could not for trying do my own

    Yes! Modelled and rendered in Carrara - no postwork or exterior renderer. Just pure, unadulterated Carrara!

    NOTES:

    1. Start with a cylinder of 6 sides and 6 segments
    2. Duplicate and place directly on top and to the left or right so that from above the two form a figure 8
    3. Join points to form a spiral goes from one cylinder to the other
    4. Use this path to sweep a 6-sided shape of approximately one third size of original cylinder
    5. Smooth and join to form a ribbon of desired length.
    6. In Assembly room (if preferred) duplicate ribbon twice and place each copy one six down to form braid
    7. Squash and resize to suit desired result...

    Simples !

    well I chopped up a bit of the one I made and used it to create an inset mesh curve brush like before

    I must have set the 3 locks a tad out though as thats one mangey plait!

    yes can inflate more which hides much sin

    I wanted a loose one though too for embelishing things

    hair I can puff it up

    Pondering an unstructured entry and was thinking of a basic scifi post catastrophe image.  How is this for irony, probably a very structured composition like a Frazetta or Hoffman sci-fi triangle for my unstructured image.  I put together a some quick elements.  To make the backdrop, I used a black/orange color gradient in the background, a relatively detailed foreground terrain, two less detailed distant terrains, some distant dark clouds, and a few twisted trees (use curve settings in branch edior) without leaves.  I rendered out the terrains/trees image.  I saved the terrain and lighting elements.  I started a new scene, reloaded the lights and foreground terrain, and inserted the first render as the background.  I reduced the resolution of the terrain, which is set as a shadow catcher.

     

    Rugged catastrophe survivors and their props yet to be added.
