...I tried making a cone primitive and reducing the opacity however there appears to be some sort of seam or anomaly that is visible which runs the entire vertical length and is visible no matter which way I rotate it on the Y axis.

I wish I could use the volumetric camera but because I also have a UE light the providing the basic fill light, it picks up on that as well so I just get a general volumetric fog over the whole scene. Not about to toy with UberVolume as it really slogs down the render process even worse than even the Fog Tool.

You use the Polygon Selection tool to select the polygons of the ears and then make your own material zone for them in Daz.

    @chellethecat:
To select individual polygons and create a new surface: Tools > "Polygon Group Editor".
In the viewport, click on one poly to select it then hold Ctrl down and select any other polygons you want (or optionally you can select with a rectangle). Right click and choose Polygon Assignment > Create Surface from Selected. Give the new surface a name. You will then see a new material zone in the "Surfaces (color)" pane.

I'm going to give it a shot...

Chellethecat: Are you using M4 or Genesis for the figure?

    M4

I am looking for half a face mask like that from the phantom of the opera, like this one:
    http://playinggodwithmonsters.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/phantom-eric-alws-phantom-of-the-opera-movie-19743666-1943-2435.jpg

I found one on RDNA, but perhaps anyway knows of a free one since my bankaccount is already quite bruised from this month's sale ;)

...thought I could backtrack the to the original; submission in the contest thread to find the link to the beam prop I used however the search function in the forums archive is broke again and only pulls up a blank page. So I have to go through page by page.

I could make one in Blender using Genesis fem (I already did) but the problem is I don't know if I can redistribute it legally and I'm a hack modeler so striving for perfection and attaining it are two distinct things for me right now.

DOES ANYONE KNOW if I can post a mesh from an existing model if I've modified it and I'm not reselling or is this against the license agreement?

AFAIK this is not allowed, as it would be a derivative of the original mesh.

Unless otherwise specified, I think you can assume that's against the license agreement. It's still their mesh, even if altered.

You appear to be using a copy of the actual mesh, which would not be allowed.

You could create a new mesh and use surface alignment tools, although I have seen posts where auto surface alignment tools(shrinkwrap) are said to be disallowed.(not sure how they could enforce that, given the amount of cloths that are probably created by that method)

For those types of models, I would use (in the modeller I have) UV Deform. I take part of the model, and use its(or create a new) UV map to deform a flat plane.

I had a very quick play:-

If you are referring to the attempt I made, that was just me playing around (I do not normally use DS/ Figures)
The mask was made using the "Basic Male" figure, which installed with the starter pack, so I presume that is Genesis? Are you looking for the mask to fit that figure? (sorry, I know little about this as yet).

Here is a slightly modified version of that mask I posted a pick of (obj format), import it(at 100%) onto the "Basic male" and see if it is what you want. (if it is for incorrect figure, or not what you want, let me know and I will make needed changes).

I'm wanting to do a picture featuring a minotaur. So I need a bull head to put on Genesis/M4. A static prop would do, but movable features would be better. I've looked on ShareCG/Renderosity and not found anything.

It will be indeed fitted onto Genesis.
I loaded the base male and except from the minor details around the eye, the mask fits perfectly:

I made some adjustments, mainly around the eye. (and the edges of the mask, to stop the render artifacts I see on the mask edges in your image)

    Hope this is better.

Well, we've reached page #100. Here's a recap for the next thread (if we're splitting this one at 100 pages).

    Frequently-asked questions:

How do I use 3DS models in Daz Studio?
Convert them with Hexagon, Bryce, Anim8or, Blender, PoseRay, or PropViewer .

Where can I get the freebies that used to be on free.daz3d.com?
    Nowhere, at the moment.

How do I download freebies hosted at forumarchive.daz3d.com?
Copy the link into a text editor, change the part that reads "forum.daz3d.com" to "forumarchive.daz3d.com", and copy the edited link into your browser's navigation box.

#25 is at ShareCG. OBJ format.

#84 needs to be more explicit: what sort of props, and what sort of damage?

#145 is answered by Wilmap's Beret.

#348 (aircraft for paratroopers) might be solved with a CH-47 Chinook. Unless, of course, they need a C-47. 3DS format.

#555 is fulfilled by the seventh and ninth entries here. Wayback Machine.

Hmmm - do you have a modeler with which you could make the hair longer? and for the clasp I would just use a cylinder primitive parented to that part of the hair ... (there is a blue texture in the textures folder)

I would take a shot at asking the Look at My Hair gang to see if anyone of them would be interested in making you a preset. The reader is free and if you have the preset then you can load the hair onto your subject. DAZ Member beloveddalleli is real good at creating toon type hair. She is Alia on the LAMH website. You can see her work and download some of her presets here. You can search the forms for various Look At My Hair threads.

Anyone here interested or know someone on this site who does requests for money or not and would be interested? thankyou.

Do you know where they are? I did some searches here but found nothing. Is there a main thread or something they hang out at where I could go ask them? thx.
You should be looking for Kendall Sears or Alessandro_AM. Start with this thread
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14818/P690/ and from there they can direct you to other threads. I did not see any great activity on DAZ but they are gearing up for the next version of LAMH. They have a web site www.furrythings.com

I've been searching for models of the Apollo, Gemini, and Saturn 5 rockets of the 60's and 70's. Can someone help me out? The Moon Buggy would be good also.

i'm requesting a decent pig morph, or boar teeth morph, for M4. I'm on a bit of a Star Wars kick, and I want to try my hand at making M4 into a Gamorrean, and while I've got most of the body looking decent, the face needs a bit of work, especially with the teeth.

Once the current government shutdown in the USA is resolved, check this site:
    http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/3d_resources/models.html

I recall seeing a Gemini capsule there, at the very least.

Edit: Just thought to check the Wayback Machine - they have the page at http://web.archive.org/web/20130425051111/http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/3d_resources/models.html

It's very slow, compared to the usual NASA site, but they do have a Gemini capsule, a "Gemini spacesuit" static character, an Apollo Lunar Module, and a Saturn V booster. The spacesuit is OBJ format; the other three are 3DS format.

(They also have Mercury capsules, a "Mercury spacesuit" static character, and a Viking lander. No Moon Buggy, though.)

    Thread Continued Here
