Non-complaint:  Warm & cozy.  Dishes done.  Bills paid.  Back finally not painful.  Just put on drift away music.  Holst's "Planets Suite".  Especially love the last piece in the suite "Neptune".  Perfect when you're right on the edge of sleep or want to get there.  Especially if you let it endlessly repeat. smiley

Cold.  Cold.  Wet, slushy, icy!  And cold!  I cleared the cars and did some shoveling.  It was very heavy.  I shoveled an area, then put down some ice melt.  Then shoveled another area, and the first area was covered with ice.  After I put down the ice melt!!!  It was a losing battle.  And the expected high temperature for tomorrow is 10 F.  10 F!  Not 10 C, 10 F!!!  I hate the winter!

Going out to the end of the driveway to get the mail today was brutally cold and tomorrow it’s only supposed to get to 17F .

You're lucky!  It only hit 8 here today!  But it didn't feel like 8...with the wind it felt more like -15 at least!  Yes, I went out in that!  Crazy, I guess.  We went to iHop and then to visit Diane's sister.

Here, at midnight, it's 6 F.  That's warmer than it was at 5:30 pm!  Wind chill ("feels like") is -10 F!

...bugger went to get a couple freebies I had in the cart and discovered the PC one I had in the cart was showing a price. Usually the previous week''s PC freebie doesn't expire until 11:59 on Tuesday.  I checked past emails from Daz, to check on it find there was a notice from a couple days ago that my PC membership expired, however that email never appeared in my inbox.   Been a pretty crazy month with recovering injuries and dealing with other RL matters.

I also thought I wouldn't have to renew until next month (as well as thought I had the "auto renew" box checked).

Wake up, wake up!  Last night I put you to sleep with "Neptune" but it's time to smell the coffee and wake up to the frantic Overture to the ballet "Gaite Parisienne" by Jacques Offenbach.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcDoEX9EHUs  If you've been to Disney's EPCOT in Florida and taken in the movie at the French pavilion you might recognize it as the music behind the bicycling group riding through the countryside and the car race. yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqj1XxhgsqA  at 5:54

If you liked the overture, then try the whole suite of "Gaite Parisienne".  It has additional familiar movie background music including the "Can Can" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWwlW5V9jT4  Click the "Show More" of the 1st entry in the comments section to see list of timeline postions of each part of the suite.

Gaite Parisienne is Offenbach arr. Rosenthal, isn't it, rather than plain Offenbach?

We have wall-to-wall carpeting, so that's not an issue.  Except in the bathroom and kitchen.  At least it's not ceramic tile, it's vinyl flooring.  Part of the basement has bare concrete, though.  That can be cold.  Downstairs bathroom has tiles and that floor gets cold.  But I don't go down there with bare feet, often.

I am taking a breather from cleaning out my closet.

So, you're cleaning out your closet and you've removed a breather?  Which begs the question, are there other inhabitants of the closet that are non-breathers? surprise

Personally, I don't have a problem with breathers or an occasional non-breather, it's the "mouth breathers" that freak me out.  You're never quite sure what (or if) they're thinking. frown

Non-complaint:  I was able to dig my car out of the sugar yesterday.  Did my usual Tuesday chores uptown. Yay! smiley

Complaint:  I stopped at Ruby Tuesday for lunch and waited what seemed like an unusually long time.  Long after I'd eaten my wonderful salad (they have the most wonderful salad bar) my fish was finally brought to me but it was way underdone. (yuck!, I detest underdone fish)  Rather than wait for repairs or replacement of the fish, I made a slight complaint but asked them to box it up and said I'd microwave it at home for dinner.

Non-complaint: The manager (I think he was a new manager) heard my tiny non-demanding complaint but popped his head in and said he'd compensate for the entire meal. surpriseyes  Um, OK.  I would have been grateful for a few dollars off the price because I'd already eaten a huge salad and was taking home the baked potato anyway.  But not one to reject a free meal I didn't object.  But I did leave the proper tip in cash ( Yes, it's an American thing, civilized diners here always tip the wait person when they deserve it. indecision).  So, I left with my fish and my potato expecting a good supper at home.  Unfortunately even 3 minutes at high power in the microwave didn't fix the fish it was still limp, oily, and tasteless.  Somebody must have substituted a different type of fish instead of the advertised Tillapia.  I'm going to be very careful about ordering fish from there again.  I'll stick with Red Lobster for the next few trips.

Complaint:  However, when I got home I realized that the landlord's plowing and my car digging out had not gone very well I'm afraid because when I came back there wasn't enough room in the plowed area behind the house to turn my car around and park it backside in as I am wont to do.  So, unfortunately the car is now parked again but front forward and encased in its 2-3 foot drifted snowbanks with the dug out path to the driver's door now on the wrong side of the car and my door is now 4 foot further into the snow drift. no Getting out of the car was interesting.  I had to take both feet and press on the door pretending I was back in the gym doing leg presses.  And when you're 70 and out shape with arthritis and heart fibrulations still not completely calm from the digging out procedure three hours earlier, it was a bit scary.  I was beginning to think I was going to have to crawl out the window or delve into the emergency saltines that I keep in there and wait for the snow to melt. frown

  • If you think you have a complaint, consider the winner of the Darwin Awards this year:

    THE WINNER! (Arkansas Democrat Gazette):

Two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38 early Monday. Woodruff County deputy Dovey Snyder reported the accident shortly after midnight Monday. Thurston Poole, 33, of Des Arc, and Billy Ray Wallis, 38, of Little Rock, were returning to Des Arc after a frog-catching trip. On an overcast Sunday night, Poole's pickup truck headlights malfunctioned.

The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed that the .22 caliber bullets from his pistol fit perfectly into the fuse box next to the steering-wheel column. Upon inserting a bullet, the headlights again began to operate properly and the two men proceeded on eastbound toward the White River Bridge.

After traveling approximately 20 miles and just before crossing the river, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged and struck Poole in the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exited the pavement and struck a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from the accident but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to his testicles, which will never operate as intended.

Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank God we weren't on that bridge when Thurston shot his balls off, or we might be dead," stated Wallis.

"I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this accident happened," said Snyder.

Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia (Poole 's wife) asked how many frogs the boys had caught and i f anyone got them from the truck?

Though Poole and Wallis did not die as a result of their misadventure as normally required by Darwin Award Official Rules, it can be argued that Poole did in fact effectively remove himself from the gene pool.

Runners up for the prize include:

Nominee No. 1 (San Jose Mercury News):

An unidentified man, using a shotgun like a club to break a former girlfriend’s windshield, accidentally shot himself to death when the gun discharged, blowing a hole in his gut.

    Nominee No. 2 (Kalamazoo Gazette):

James Burns, 34, a mechanic from Alamo MI, was killed in March as he was trying to repair what police describe as a "farm-type truck." Burns got a friend to drive the truck on a highway while Burns hung underneath so that he could ascertain the source of a troubling noise. Burns' clothes caught on something, however, and the other man found Burns "wrapped in the drive shaft".

Nominee No. 3 (Hickory Daily Record):

Ken Charles Barger, 47, accidentally shot himself to death in December in Newton NC. Awakening to the sound of a ringing telephone beside his bed, he reached for the phone but instead grabbed a Smith & Wesson 38 Special, which discharged when he drew it to his ear.

    Nominee No. 4 (UPI, Toronto):

Police said a lawyer demonstrating the safety of windows in a downtown Toronto skyscraper crashed through a pane with his shoulder and plunged 24 floors to his death. A police spokesman said Garry Hoy, 39, fell into the courtyard of the Toronto Dominion Bank Tower early Friday evening as he was explaining the strength of the buildings windows to visiting law students. Hoy previously has conducted demonstrations of window strength according to police reports. Peter Lawson, managing partner of the firm Holden Day Wilson, told the Toronto Sun newspaper that Hoy was "one of the best and brightest members of the 200-man association."

Nominee No. 5 (The News of the Weird):

Michael Anderson Godwin made News of the Weird posthumously. He had spent several years awaiting execution in South Carolina's electric chair on a murder conviction before having his sentence reduced to life in prison. While sitting on a metal toilet in his cell attempting to fix his small TV set, he bit into a wire and was electrocuted.

Nominee No. 6 (The Indianapolis Star):

A cigarette lighter may have triggered a fatal explosion in Dunkirk, IN. A Jay County man, using a cigarette lighter to check the barrel of a muzzle loader, was killed Monday night when the weapon discharged in his face, sheriff's investigators said. Gregory David Pryor, 19, died in his parents' rural Dunkirk home at about 11:30 PM. Investigators said Pryor was cleaning a 54-caliber muzzle-loader that had not been firing properly. He was using the lighter to look into the barrel when the gunpowder ignited.

Nominee No. 7 (Reuters - Mississauga, Ontario):

A man cleaning a bird feeder on the balcony of his condominium apartment in this Toronto suburb slipped and fell 23 stories to his death. "Stefan Macko, 55, was standing on a wheelchair when the accident occurred," said Inspector Darcy Honer of the Peel Regional Police. "It appears that the chair moved, and he went over the balcony."

...not incredibly thrilled about software subscriptions myself.  Then again I can actually afford something like Octane 4 as I don't have to come up with almost 600$ up front (impossible to do on less than a 1,000$ a month SS benefit).  At 20$ a month (the subscription price) it would take 30 months to save for a perpetual licence and by that time we'll have Octane 8 and the price will likely be higher)

That said, would never go for an OS by subscription.
