Well, now I'm glad they overpriced everything, because I can get the items on my wishlist for half off that rarely go on sale. I'll catch Lee 8 in a few months.
That's nothing. On November 15th I bought the Latonya Pro Bundle, which came out just over two months earlier on September 4th, for $23.61. While that's an extreme case, the fact is we all know that this kind of deflation on DAZ's figures is more the rule than the exception these days. While there are some nice items in the Lee Bundles that I'd like to have, there's nothing that I can't wait for 3 months for... especially when I've already got the previous Lees and several dozen other Asian male character sets that I'm perfectly happy with.
For me, he was worth buying at the price point offered (I'm a long-time DAZ junkie... er... customer, too), and I'm very happy with him. I'd also love to see what people do with him. More renders, please! :)
<snort>
<giggle>
Now that you mention it, if I'm called down to a lineup and someone says, "Okay, point out which one of these suspects is not a pervert," I think top left would be my only option.
I bit the bullet and bought Lee 8 Pro bundle with a gift card and the gift card discount was 28% !!
edit: My "Exclusive Offers" site mail was for 20%
edit, edit: My original offer is stacking with today's 10% gift card sale. Glad I waited one day!
edit, edit, edit: Actually I shorted the gift card by 2% by buying today instead of one today and one tomorrow (w/ Lee 8 Pro).
edit, edit, edit, edit: Just ignore my rambling.. considering, work out best with the stacking gift card discount of course..
...
It's not just Lee 8 that looks sort of unaturally stiff faced but the whole lot of Genesis 8 (and G8 is improvement over G3 so...) with the exception of a couple of PA characters that hand scultped two or three expressions as they'd look naturally. Somehow that face rig action on the skinned mess needs to be improved. Many of the expressions and pose sets meant for comic style characters like Eddie, Ollie, & Brute look more realistic than the likewise sets for the realistic characters.
I'm very disappointed in the pricing/deal for Lee 8, so much so that I now regret buying the Mei Lin 8 Pro bundle. At the time I didn't think the Mei Lin 8 Pro bundle deal was good value (especially for those of us who own previous figures), but I could understand Daz trying something new with the bundles. Now I regret showing my support by buying that bundle. I struggled to find 10 items last time so I certainly won't be able to this time. I'm also very unhappy about the gift card deal for owners of previous versions - it's basically saying, "Thank you for your support in the past and now. As a reward, you may spend more money with us."
It seems to me that Mei Lin 8 and Lee 8 have been figures that people have been wanting for a long time, and Daz have taken advantage of that by reducing the value of the sales incentives and trying to squeeze more money out of their customers with the gift card "offer".
I have spent the past three days thinking about whether to buy the pro bundle for Lee 8. On the one hand, I don't want to hear the "male figures don't sell as well, so we won't make as many" but I also don't want to show any more support for this type of deal with a pro bundle. I think I might just buy Lee 8 as a standalone, but the question is whether to buy now or wait for another sale in the future.
In a way, I'm actually happy with the Lee Pro Bundle deal, because for once picking just the items I want comes out cheaper than the Pro Bundle and I won't feel I'm robbing myself by buying later at 50% (or more) off.
At least the gift card deal is a bit sweeter now that it is 28% off (although that maybe only for today). I have a 300 USD card in my cart, which means for 282 dollars I get a 300 dollar gift card.That is equivalent to buying a 6% gift card, plus getting Lee 8 pro and 10 other items for free. I am pondering, although apart from lee 8 and the hair, and I am not that interested in most of the items in the pro bundle.
Er... at 28% off, that $300.00 GC should cost $216.00. $282 is 6% off, so in that first sentence did you mean to say that for $282 you got a $300 gift card PLUS the Lee 8 Pro Bundle?.
Ah yes, ultimately the idea was as you said, 6% off and Lee 8 Pro for free.
Awesome render! He looks intense.
I finally broke over and bought the pro bundle and 3 add ons, I still had some Ironman13! probundles I was still wanting to pickup and missed during the PC+ sale. Anyway, I'm with you in wanting to see some more Lee 8 renders. Here's my first render, Lee 8 out of the box texture and character shape. https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/691726/
Love him! :D
I'll have to re-render this, the skin is too pixilated. I thought Riku would look great in the clothes and hair from Owen's probundle and then decided to put Owen in Lee's clothes and hair while I was at it.
The lack of renders and general enthusiasum for Lee is disheartning.
I'm playing with Lee 8 and his characters mixed with Luca and/or Michel for a blended simi anime style.
That latest render looks great EJWorks! Whenever I try to blend characters, their faces get smooshed and look really weird, so I'm glad to see that it can be done. I really do like Lee 8 and he's one of the main figures I'm using for my animated series. So though I have nothing rendered with him yet, I'm going to be using him a lot!
Kichiro using Michel textures and Luca at 75%
When face smooshing occurs, I dial down the original character. I've found that if the percentages, when added together, are significantly higher than say 125 %, the smooshing happens.
Oh! Okay, I'll try that next time. Thank you so much for the tip :)
I read something like that in forum discussions a while back and that's what really helped me improve blending characters. Another thing I noticed is sometimes it is better to load Genesis 8 base figure and then dial in the two figures I want to blend.
Today I went ahead and loaded Erik figure and then played with the persentages for Luca and added Luca's material set. When Luca is dialed in at only 30% his elf ears are also part of the morph, so I then went to the ears and dialed them down to 0. Also, I didn't like how the lips looked, I thought they were too puckered up/pouty so I used https://www.daz3d.com/rarestone-s-face-morphs-collection-for-genesis-8-male it breaks details of the face, such as lips, into even smaller groupings that can be changed. It comes in handy for fine tuning the face/ears when I want to change a particular part of a character set, or alter how blending has mooshed things. Also https://www.daz3d.com/200-plus-head-and-face-morphs-for-genesis-8-male-s is good too.
Don 't give up on your own mixing, it takes time to get a feel for it. I feel like every time I get excited over a new base figure I'm on the learning curve all over again. Some things don't blend the way I expect them to.
Riku, no changes to morph or texture. Posed with Hyan with Mei Lin 8 character watching the happy couple.
Just wanted to do a scene that looked like someing from a drama while also playing with Lee 8. For some reason when I added lights it looked great before rendering, but then the final picture is way darker than I wanted.
Just need a free render slot to get him into this thread.
Base genesis 8 male with Lee 8 mixed in makes for some great blended characters. Been playing around with settings and morphs a lot, which is slowing my render process. I find toon boy mixed in with a dash of Luca and 70% Lee 8 is fantastic for anime looks.
I wanted to see what each of Lee's character add-ons looked like with Luca before expermenting with Toon boy.
Look forward to seeing your renders when you have the time.
