OT - Not digging "Titans"

Has WB not learned a damn thing?
I am guilty of being a fan boy and having faith in DC live action even though they have let me down again and again. I love the characters and the animated worlds they created as well.... but they are idiots when it comes to depicting their characters in live action.
I splurged at San Diego Comic Con 2018 and got the year of DC Universe due, not completley but in part to watch Titans.
Dick Grayson not only drops F-Bombs but thinks nothing of throwing shuriken into someone's eye or SNIPPING OFF THEIR GENITALIA?!
REALLY? DC? REALLY?
Kori goes off and flash cremates three goons. I can buy that if this is before introduction to Dick and what not but....
I am two episodes into the new series and I am regretting every second I watch.
Dark and gritty has been tried by you guys time and time again and what has it gotten your franchise? Hmmm?
I am going to go crack open some classic Wolfman/Perez reboot era comics and lose myself until Young Justice seasn 3 comes out.
Why are they running these properties into the ground? *cry*

You know, after the trailer, I kind of was holding out this tiny glimmer of hope that Robin breaking a thug's neck and dropping a F-Bomb was just a clip out of context, that he was under the effect of something Raven was doing. Now I can save that potential DC money and throw it at Daz. :)
Wel, thanks for the review because the whole thing I liked about the comics when I was a kid was that the heroes were scrupulously corny, clean, jokesters and that most issues no one got hurt, only gritted their teeth and strained their muscles a lot. I wouldn't even call the character you describe as Robin, the Boy Wonder, at all.
I'll wait to see if it lasts a season. I usually don't find the first episode or two of a show very good. The actors are just getting a feel for the characters, so usually I give them a couple episodes before I decide whether I like the show or not.
..crikey, used to collect TT comics back in the 80s & 90s. The whole "Kori and her sister" thing became such a soap opera.
Actually enjoy TT-Go! as it is so silly and off the wall.
Wise decision, though I hold out hope for Young Justice. I have had my fill of Robin the Boy Mutilator.
Wonder, no. Mutilator, yes. HYe's the kind of "Vigilante" that Batman would hunt down.
I honestly have ZERO problems with the actors. Robin was spot on. I was spot on until he was too violent. Kori was fun but then straight up incinerated people (that was almost forgiveable as her being a warrior but still felt a bit..."off"). It really all hinges around DIck's complete disregard for humanity. as written in the script. The actors are doing a good job but they have been handed a smoking pile of poo from the writers and directors. I am beyond lost when it comes to explaining things to people who should have had enough wisdom to learn from their mistakes. Dark and gritty loses people. It is stupid beyond belief.
TT Go! was a big no for me. I loved the cartoon before that and loved Young Justice.
Why, DC? Why? Robin should be the one riegning others in. Not the one leading the charge to maim and mutilate. I give zero F87ks for the character and would like to see him in prison. Not a hero.
My son (13) loves the teen titans because of the cartoon which is fun and goofy. So I hoped this was something we could watch together and enjoy. Assuming it would not be as goofy as the cartoon, but still fun, kinda like the flash. But hell no....this was just a mess.
Robin the mutilator (as you guys put it), starfire a prostitute (or whatever she was doing), beastboy a theif, just a mess.
It's like they've lost touch completely with how cool the characters are just for HAVING character an not degrading into mindless vigilantes. I am hating it. They have a few more episodes before I throw my hands in disgust from abject hate of it, but they are leaning me in that direction.
did anyone mention that Raven looks like she just walked out of Hot Topic?
I think they're intentionally starting Robin out as a villain and plan to teach him lessons this season to mold him into a hero. That would make perfect sense if the Titans were led by Damien Wayne, but not Dick Grayson. I haven't subscribed to DC Universe, so I can't comment on what the show is really like, but what I've read about it on Gizmodo sounds awful.
I would rather Dick be a little lost like in Nightwing, Year One than a viscious psycho like Red Hood. Gouging out eyes with shurikens and snipping off bad guys hoo-hoos not matter what they did is Jason' purview, not Dick's
I hope they pull that back quick. Maybe have Babs come and talk some sense to him or Alfred. That's the only way to pull this back. I am giving Raven a bit of a chance. It's not the direction I would have taken but.... it is what it is.
Starfire? Not feeling it yet but.
DAMN! Why do I have to hang on to hope? My fanboy dreams of a decent DC live action experience have been dashed time and again. *sigh*
Maybe if they added a Jar Jar Binks character to it....
Ya kinda get that they want the heros to "grow" into who they will become......but they set the tone way to dark. They don't need to be thugs.....just maybe teens who are lost and confused as to what their role in life is(as teens tend to be) ...till they find each other and learn to bring out the best in each other.
So... Batmite, huh?
yes, but...Dick is better than that. When he got "fired" he was a little lost but not overly violent. I guess some writer thought it would be "cool" to make him violent...but it's not. It's a violation of the character. It's like Captain Amwerica saying "Hail Hyrda" and that nonsense, It doesn't work. Make it stop, for the love of God before it is too late.
It's good in stories to (1) have an arc for the character and (2) have them deal with conflict either internally or externally or both. To have an arc, they don't need to start with " I don't care who I hurt" level of bad. They could, for example, have him start of disillusioned about a failure, an inability to save someone or perhaps even an action that inadvertently made things worse that has him questioning why he even bothers. Hey, he's in ready to quit because he feels he might be part of the problem - conflict! Then, over time and thanks to some of the new people he meets and mentors (reluctantly, initially) he rediscovers how much he cares about others, about justice, about making a difference. There ya go, arc achieved without making him a psycho.
But that's not grimdark enough, grimdark is what sells. Or so they insist.
Well done! I would watch that. Have him disillusioned about Batman and growing up to be a dark, somber, lonely person. Maybe he and Bruce are having an argument about working with others. Maybe Batman is being nasty to him because Bruce has come to rely "too much" on Dick. Maybe Dick has just gotten older and don't want to be in Bruce's shadow. There are TONS of interesting reasons to have him go out on his own. None of which rely on the cheap thrill of violence.
HAHAHAHA!
I've not even heard of this or seen previews.
I was never a huge fan. I was never into the DC comics as a kid, I did see the cartoon every so often on cartoon network, but that's about it.
I watched Gotham on netflix and while I really liked it, it's missing batman. I was hoping for a pre-batman at the beginning to very early batman maybe mid series but according to the writers, that's not how it's going to work.
I was also a fan of the Dark knight movie series.
I'll have to see where I can watch this
Solid production. Good acting (for the most part). Shaky dialogue—shoehorn in edgy banter. It isn’t outright bad as much as a death by a thousand cuts. I’m still watching because of the eventual tie-in to Doom Patrol and its premier next year.
Fight scenes are actually quite good as well. Well choreographed and acted.
actually I read somewhere they actually did do that to CA and that he was part of Hydra and went fully over to them in one of the new recreations
Agreed. But these are occasionally spoiled with excessive bloodshed. I knew this going in. The trailer released a few months ago showed Dove cutting a guys knees and there were gouts of blood. My first impression: Dove is another casualty of DC’s Murderverse.
we have Batwoman (not to be confused with Batgirl for those that don't know) be introduced in Arrow with possible crossovers with Supergirl, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow then her own series. Don't know if any of Gotham will make an appearance n any of the shows but in the final season Bruce finally becomes Batman. Possible more Superman too
/agreed. Murderverse sucks. More heroes, less psychopaths
Every few years Marvel decides to make Captain America either uncomfortable with America (remember when he quit to become Nomad, the man without a country?) or outright hostile to it (as in this Hydra thing). It never works out but they will do it again a few years. It's part of the cycle of life now.
I feel there is a resounding cry from the fan community against the dark and gritty and DC is JUST... NOT... GETTING...IT. Jesus!
Hmmm, I get what everyone is saying about Titans. I have to admit that I'm a little lukewarm about this series right now myself and I'm usually more forgiving than most fan boys...however, I still believe we should just let this play out. Those of us who can quote Dick Grayson's journey from Robin to Nightwing as if it was a chapter in the Bible will be put off by this version of the character...which is kind of like a mix between him and Jason Todd.
He obviously has some resentment and anger issues with Bruce to deal with and this is their way of pulling it out. I don't agree with the dark and gritty tone but maybe this season is more about Dick actually becoming more like (or worse than) Bruce before finding purpose to not be like Bruce and it has to play out.
So, I'm going to give it a go for a few more episodes. It took Jessica Jones at least 4 episodes to be interesting to me...same for Arrow when it premiered.
This! Very much this. My feeling about the Marvel Cinematic Universe versus DCEU is this: the MCU is being created by people who have worked with and love and honor the characters, and who respect the fans. But for some reason Warner Brothers keeps handing DC properties over to people who want to recreate things according to some new vision, who don't care about honoring the characters, the history, or the fans.
If they scrapped the DCEU name and marketed everything as "Elseworlds," that would sort of fix it for longtime comics fans. Except nothing can retroactively fix crappy, unentertaining stories, and new fans will be confused about which are the "real" characters... These are the Elseworlds Titans for example, not the Earth-1 Teen Titans. That would also explain the ridiculous number of upcoming competing Joker movies.
blame Barry Allen he keeps screwing up the time lines, alternate realites and Earths
That's one of the problems. I don't need Dick Graysons story told as if it were biblical verse because... you can't. There are varying stories about that, but the one consistency is his character. We don't need a mixture of Dick and Jason. They each have their own internal consistencies. This is not Dick grayson, it's a combination of two Robins taking the worst of the two.
Even though the MCU movies were not true to the comics like biblical verse, the characters presented were internally consistent and displayed heroism, determination, and character. The original X-Men movie, the same.
DCU has given us murdering Batman and his Murder Car ("I don't believe in using guns.... unless they're mounted to cars.... then it's ok."), a dullard of a Superman wih poor moral character (I don't know about you, but if my Dad was going to be swept up by a tornado and die and I could save him, I would no matter what hand gesture he used. I would take the brow-beating later but.... that's my dad.) who has no idea or care about the people around him (Hey, I see there is going to be a superfight at my parents home. Despite the faxct that the town is literally SURROUNDED by cornfields, I think I'll knock the bad guy right into the heart of my hometowm where the cost of human life and property damage can be maximized) and murders (You had a hold of 'em.....couldn't just....Fly up to save the family, huh? No other options, huh?) with the worst Pa Kent I have EVER seen ("Well, yeah, maybe let those kids die cause, screw them, right. That's the moral lesson I want to give my son, the god-like entity.") and Suicide Squad..... just don't get me started there...
Yeah, to bad he couldn't find that moral compass BEFORE killing and maiming those people. Snapping necks, gouging out eyes with Shurikens and snipping off ding-a-lings sure is a line hard to pull back from.once crossed. Why isn't Bats hunting him down for going too far?
I will give it a few more episodes because I can but..... no.... not a promising start at all.
