...I don't deal with Amazon. They treat their workers like rubbish by underpaying and overworking them.
Hmmmm...then the news I saw recently lied? They just made the minimum pay rate for everyone $15/hr. Even for part time workers.
Dana
...no, that was overshadowed by another "breaking headline" I cannot mention here.
..and in many cities, 15$ is not a living wage because of obscene housing costs.
Apologies, but I am extremely angry right now.
..DIM is acting really stupid tonight after 40 min from when I opened it I am still getting me a "not responding" error.
This isn't helping matters.

Maybe so, but it is not the official minimum wage, which is already not a living wage and hasn't been for some time. This was a big step and the hope is that many other businesses will follow suit, and not wait until 2020 (I think that's when it kicks in, maybe later) when the official minimum wage is finally in place...by then, it will be too low again.

I don't listen to today's "pop(ular)" music. Most of it is not what I would call music. I saw an interesting "expose" on YouTube. Found some interesting info that I didn't know. For example, most of the "hits" of current popular artists are written by one of two guys. Explains why so much of today's "music" sounds the same, or very similar. It exposes the way the big companies market the material. Ever wonder why something you hear makes you think, "That is terrible" but a couple months later you may start to like it? They are using the familiarity trick on us. They put the stuff into everything...even elevators! Commercials, music playing over the speakers in stores. Humans have a part of the brain that likes familiar things...so you start to like something that you never would have considered originally. Some of us have stronger wills and opinions and preferences, so it doesn't work on all of us. But it sure seems to work on the masses.
There is less dynamics used in today's "music". Everything is at about the same level. They make heavy use of compression (not WinZip type compression, it's an audio thing
) It's a trick that makes your brain engage, it keeps it interested. Because so many today have such short attention spans! Studies have shown that popular music has become less and less interesting, less and less dynamic, less and less artistic, over the decades since the 1960s. Anyway, it was a very interesting video.

No, the minimum wage is a Federal mandate, not a state one. What is considered a living wage may differ by state, or by community. For general cost of living. For example, in New England, a modest three bedroom house may cost between $250,000 and $375,000. Down south, in the Carolinas, Texas, etc., it may cost $175,000. But wages are lower, in general, in those areas, as are other cost of living categories. In an area like where KK lives, rents may be almost as much as a mortgage for a two or three bedroom apartment. The same goes for my area. I checked a few years ago and was shocked to see that rents in a good area of town were as much or more than what I pay for mortgage, and my mortgage includes escrow for real estate tax and homeowners' insurance! Truthfully, I don't know how people can manage that. Those who can easily sure would be better off buying a house...at least it's yours, and you don't have to be bothered with annoying upstairs, downstairs or across the hall neighbors, smokers polluting your air, complaining about the volume of your music or home theater, etc.

...true, In my old neighbourhood in Milwaukee that 3 bedroom home would be 95,000$ - 125,000$ because of the economy there. Here in Portland it would cost 500,000$ - 600,000$.
Sadly I have no credit standing for purchasing (and certainly could not do so out here). However it isn't just mortgage, there is insurance as well as property tax, and here in Oregon the tax rate is pretty steep.
Wolves and sheep come to mind.
Very elitist thread this isn't it.
I know... I was about to say that I just noticed my armpits smell very flowery and I think I may have used my wife's deodorant today instead of my own...
But now I feel like that might drag this thread down a notch or two...
Actually only one armpit smells flowery... The other smells like salsa...
Never mind... I seem to have gotten actual salsa under my other arm... I wonder how I did that?
I don't know why, but I don't like smelling flowery... I may have to rub a little salsa under the other arm...
Skyline of which city of 12 million people?
Not sure, but that building on the left is kind of cool!
Dana
whole City once tended to the left, whole country in fact.
It looks a bit like Dubai but that population is only about 3 million.
The twisty building looks like a building that was supposed to be built in Moscow... But Moscow has 12 million people?.. I thought it was less... ?
EDITED-
Never mind... I'm going with Moscow... I looked it up, the other building seem to be there too.
Final answer: Mooscow
Further edit... Moscow university is in the background... Or is that the big hotel?
The amazing thing is the building on the right, in the background, as you look at it seems the most out of place, and yet that is the one that is the most typical Russian building really.
I hope I get good news soon. I have an interview on Tuesday at the movie theater near my home. I have good feelings about this. I am excited about the interview.
Actually, I ignored that building entirely until I realized it was probably Moscow... Also I'm not that smart... I had a reference picture of the twisty building on my computer, which I happened to look at a few days ago... So it's coincidence more than memory or knowledge.
Good luck!
I was bored before... So I pulled a bunch of photos off my phone and messed around with them in Filter Forge 7...
...hope it works out well.
I am debating on taking another shower tonight to appease the staff of the group home. I already took one this afternoon.
I had a late lunch so I did not want dinner, but I am a touch hungry.
Thanks I do hope it does too.
...Moscow? 12 Million? After watching some of those dash cam vids I'm surprised at that figure. Just walking down the pavement or crossing a street with the light in your favour seems a very risky venture there with the way many Muscovites drive
It also appears there are no speed limits (or they are just ignored) with how fast I've seen people drive even in the city centre.
