Non-complaint:  Wheee..., major light show in the kitchen this morning.  My prisms are again illuminated in just the right way that I have spectrums and beams of pure color bouncing around on the white appliances, the walls, and the floor.  The major glory only lasted about 10 minutes but it was fun trying to find out where particular beams were coming from.  In addition to my big triangular prism, I have an X-cube prism and a couple of antique bottles with multi-faceted egg shaped glass stoppers sitting on the window sill.  Sun was just in the right position to send beams all over the kitchen this morning.  Yay! yes

I had to take one of my daughters to the Fire Island lighthouse for an extra credit assignment today and while I was there I stopped by the... Actually... Don't know what it's called, but it's sort of a lighthouse beacon museum... It has like six things in it, so it's more of a big shed with displays... but whatever it's called, one of them was this fresnel lens from the early 1900s...

I remembered your post about your prisms and thought this would cheer you up...

The only problem was it was bolted down really well and my daughter was opposed to me committing a felony in broad daylight... And I didn't want to come back later as the walk is way too long...

And the logistics of mailing you a 500 pound hunk of glass and steel is too complicated as well...

The prismatic effect of the fresnel lens, which are actually made of separate curved prisms is really kinda cool...

The picture really doesn't do it much justice.

I washed a glass item to recycle, but the house lady got upset with me assuming wrongly that I was keeping it. I was just doing the environmental friendly and recycling people friendly job of cleaning out the jar to be recycled.

i thought I lost my fire stick but I was looking in the wrong spot.

I'm starting to think that everyone at your domicile (with the exception of you) is a big fat stinky doo-doo head.

I tried to think of a better way of saying that, but it either came out way more profanity filled or way more wordy... And profanity filled...

I'm pretty bad at not cursing.

As far as I know, every single place I've ever read the recycling rules for, and that's in many different towns and in different states, they all instruct you to wash the items before placing them into the bin... By default, washing is the norm.

I guess that "House Lady" (her super villain pseudonym?) was just doing her job... Which apparently involves being a big fat doo-doo head, but you were still doing the right thing.

  • I have a very serious complaint!

I swore, I wouldn't buy another product this month and then someone releases Lightsabers and lightsaber poses!

    That is just wrong!!!!!!!

Continuing complaint:  Ewwwww...., the road crew has just gone by and repaved the other half of the road in front of my house.  Stinko, eye watering, blech... crying

Non-complaint:  but for the last few days I've been using the paved half back from the city and it's like I'm driving on air.  No bumps, ripples, or noise.  In a few days the whole stretch will be done on both sides of the road all the way from & to the city for this winter. yes  Then it all starts to fall apart again.  frown  You'd think that in the 21st century we could build a road that didn't have to be repaved every three years.

  • Well, I guess I better find something to do.  Hubby said I need to take a break from shopping.  I have done a lot for the house this year.  He said I really did not pay for the dog.  I agree.  I completely forgot some of the things I bought.  I still have a ton of textures to do things with.  There is actually a lot of stuff for me to do without shopping for 30 days.  I got a few texture sets I had been wanting and some outfits to texture with knits.  That kinda used up the budget for a bit.  I have to get better habits.  Maybe I should make some characters and stop playing with shaders?

A giant fresnel lens? Woe be to the squirrel that wanders into the focus of that thing on a hot sunny day. Sorry, I've spent the past month trying to protect 2 pecan trees from thieving squirrels, so I'm getting a kick out of that idea. Ok, I guess a solar death ray is a little excessive...for now.

It is a problem. indecision  But the road when newly surfaced is great until the first series of freeze/thaw periods two months later and by spring they are filling potholes.  Then for two and a half years the potholes are encouraged to grow, mate and reproduce until harvested by the road crew, remelted, and laid down as a new field of beautiful flat asphalt in the fall after a final punishing summer of car suspension wreaking driving.  Why can't they fix the road in the spring or early summer so we can enjoy them for more than 2 months? frown

Complaint:  I've been fighting a battle with a California antique auction house and UPS shipping for three weeks now trying to get my fabulous carved filligreed stone vase paid and sent to me.  Details in earlier posts, but the latest SNAFU is with UPS.  They put the wrong address on the package. frown I was so careful to make sure that I wrote the correct address in my email's when dealing with them and to remind them of the address in every back & forth communication with them trying to do what should have been a one shot deal, pick it up, package it, send it.  But no ..., it turned into a non-comedy of errors and the final straw is that they put the wrong street number on the package.  A number that is only one off, but doesn't exist on the road.  The last digit in the address is supposed to be "4", they put "5".  No computer savvy person would ever ask "What difference can one bit make?".  Consequently the package which was supposed to finally be delivered today went back to their local warehouse and I've had to negotiate their voice activated automated maze of phone assistance to get the address corrected and delivered hopefully tomorrow.  I will admit that at the end of their automated voice activated phone maze I had reached my breaking point and swore at the nice machine lady, despite knowing that she would politely tell me that she was not able to understand my reply.  But it made me feel a lot better. devil

...here it's not so much the snow and ice but all those heavy vehicles (including heavy SUVs and vans) that have studded tyres.

Odd, in Wisconsin and Minnesota where they get Real winter, studded tyres are prohibited, but here where maybe once every four to six years we get a significant snowfall (more than an inch or two that usually melts by afternoon), they are legal from the beginning of November to early April.

There is something quite fullfilling about being able to swear at those isn't there.   I have a feeling that if I was still driving and if I had succumbed to installing a Sat nav device I would be permanently swearing at that as well.   I know when my son came out with me on occasion to assist with my work he would say to me,  lets share the labour Mum.  You concentrate on driving and I will swear at the other idiots on the road.   It was never the same.

Complaint:  Now that my UPS shipment is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, that means that I can't do my usual Tuesday trip into the city until the UPS guy comes because I have to sign for the package.  If I don't, it delays the whole thing yet again.  Arghhh..., OMG not go into the city on Tuesday???  I think the world will explode! surprise  The people at my usual haunts will think I've croaked it during the week.  I need my dose of Tuesday mini-adventure.  My lunch at Ruby Tuesdays (on Tuesday).  My ice cream sundae (on an Unsunday) desert at the ice cream place.  My weekly walk up and down the length of the mall.  My browse through the Kitchenware store.  My snoop into Sears to see if there are any clothes that fit me on sale.  UPS has trashed my weekly schedule.  Arghhhh... frown  Disaster.  Disaster.  Don't they know that habits are what make old age survivable?

Those once "lovable losers", the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs 3 - 1 juat a short while ago today in a winner take all 1 game tiebreaker to win the National League Central Division and home field advantage throughout the NL playoffs.

They looked to be fading out a couple weeks ago and even in danger of missing the playoffs again (last year they missed the postseason by one game), but suddenly woke up winning their last 8 games. and going 9 - 1 in the last ten games.

Love seeing the underdog on top.

...well the inspection and treatment for the roach issue has been completed. Spent all morning emptying cabinets and drawers in the kitchen and bath and now have to put everything back again.  Hopefully this will solve the matter as he was pretty thorough checking all the places they'd hide and planting traps. In another week or so I'll see how effective this was.

Still not pleased as someone must have brought them into the building recently.  I've been here for over a year plus several months and have not dealt with roaches in my kitchen since I left New Orleans 4 years ago.
