Oh my WOW that was some serious render, for a moment I thought it was a photo until I recognized the hair
Agreed - great render and very realistic looking.
Way better with more options IMO
I appreciate the product support you are doing, but my opinion is that the first and basic figures of all new generations, that are always Victoria and Michael, should be part of the basic product.
Victoria is there, Michael not. He is not a figure of a future release, he was the first male G8. I'm quite sure not to pay again for a future add-on for a figure that was released first.
i can never find this stuff once installed or where all those tweaker dials are.
It's under Studio - Shader Presets.
That is the beauty of installing manually, I can see where everything goes, LOL.
It is also the beauty of using the Content Library instead of Smart Content, if you let DIM install your content. Once you understand the structure, finding anything is relatively easy. (Except for older Poser content.)
Daveso, in Smart Content, make sure the Products tab is selected and type altern8 in the filter field at the top of the right column. That should isolate the product from the others. Double-click on the icon, and you should then have access to everything. Or if you prefer to work in the Content Library, right-click on any icon in the product and select Show Asset in->Content Library > Mapped Folder. (I've actually used this trick to help me get comfortable with the Content Library.)
The best way to find and use them is to go to: Shader Presets >> Altern8 Skin Shader System
I like that way better than through Smart Content as you can access the 3 folders I set up more easily, imo.
The first folder has the skin settings, the second folder contains the render settings, and the third folder is the gens settings.
thanks to you 3
immediately above. I find DS very confusing overall. Everything "seems" to depend on what oyu choose on the figure... and I never seem to see the same content ever. Its like a crapshoot all the time. I like to work in everything being available whenever I want it. There shouldn;t be 2 libraries. There are just too many choices. DS make me feel uneasy not a smooth flow.
Sorry to hear that and I agree, you should know where everything is. I imagine smart content being that way on my system, telling you were to find things even though I know where it was installed, LOL
Things you use all the time, like loading a G8, G3 figure can be pinned to the top under Scripts. You just need to find the file in the content library, right click on it and create a custom action. Then you don't ever have to look for it.
They work very well combined. But you have to experiment. They don't work the same on every figure.
I know she started with Charlotte mo maps, but after that I have no idea. I just push buttons until I get something I like. :)
So is the promised rendering time savings only going to work with the included character maps or will we see some saving for wierd characters like Josh Crocketts stuff. I tried a couple of different characters with simple "no map" presets with no noticable change in rendering times.
I did not use any of the included render settings would this help?
I tend to shy away from the "base figures" sold by DAZ since they cost too much for my pocketbook plus I like to create my own vision of things.
There is marked improvement in render time vs most of the Default "Official 8" figures and their presets. On the presets vs different PA characters, it's going to depend on the PA and how they set up their character's materials and settings.
On whether or not the included render settings are faster than the render settings you use - again it depends on the render settings you use. "Render Setting C" is slow, the other two, A and B should be much faster. My favorite is Render Setting B. :) I set up the Render Settings more for quality and the look that they give rather than aiming for just speed.
Beautiful work! I really like how this came out! :)
I might actually put this on Deviant Art; quite pleased with how it has turned out. Used on of the no texture options; think it was Stephanie No Textures. changed Translucency Colour, Transmitted Colour, Translucency Weight, and Dual Lobe Spec Weight, but that was done a few times so entirely possible DLSW ended up back where it started. I also adjusted Exposure Value, Shutter Speed and F Stop.
As the name might imply, used a Vicci 4 era conversion, but created my own bump, normal, spec and SSS texturs.
Does this product work with third-party genitals like NGV7 for genesis 3 female from 3feetwolf?
Thanks
The gens settings are shaders - so they should apply to anything that has geometry. :) Just make sure that the gens are selected in both the Scene tab and the Surfaces tab.
If it's the newer version for G8 that also works on G7, then yes, in most cases the script transfers the shaders to the gens mesh also. I have only come across one product that didn't work due to special shader names and texture slots and that was from Second Circle.
@ Divamakeup
Do you have any plans to add any of the more recently released/other Genesis 8 characters to the skins portfolio for Altern8? Either as an update, or as an add on product? As an example, Say Mei Lin 8.
I see Alern8 mentioned on this forum quite a bit, what exactly is it? And why should I use it instead of the default skin materials we get with each character? Is it something like Skin Manager?
I think she does. But I know she has very limited, if any, internet until she gets internet setup in her new house, probably around 9 November. So, she may not be able to respond to your questions until then.
I don't have Skin Manager, so I can't compare the two. What I can say is Altern8 is a (large) set of skin material settings that many of us consider a vast imrprovement over the default skin settings of the base figures. It also includes a quick and easy way to control shine, translucency, SSS and so on. It does not have settings for all the base 8 figures, but it does include "no-map" versions of each figure preset which can be used on any figure, male or female, as it doesn't load any of the figure specific textures.
I highly recommend Altern8 if you plan on using any figures close to the camera. On the otherhand, if you mainly do large sweeping scenes with characters at a distance, you may not really need this. At least, not right away.
