OK, I have done a render, but I notice a couple of things.
First I found that the eyes looked rather dull, I found zero Top Coat weight, leaving the eyes dull, is that down to Altern8 or other? I have changed the setting to 1.
Second, the bump setting looks too high, it may have been appropriate toan older more craggy skin, but my character is around 20 so a smoother skin is required. Again I don't know exactly which settings Altern8 controls. I have halved the bump setting.
Final point, I set Altern8 to Skin Shine Ultra High and note that Glossy Layered Weight is set to 0.7, and again Top Coat Weight is set to 0. I will render again without changing that setting, take another look, and at that stage I may decide to add a bit of Top Coat and try yet again.
Yeah, I didn't want to provide a crazy amount of adjustment settings as I thought that might overwhelm people a bit (as is, the product comes with 30 adjustment settings). I was hoping that was an "ok" amount that both provides a variety of options while also not overwhelming anyone too much with too many settings.
For darker skinned characters (and other characters that might need a bit more warmth to the tone added) the SSS Tint can be shifted from blue to a warmer light yellow or pale orange to give those skin tones a bit more warmth. :) And of course, if you want less warmth in the skin tone that can be adjusted with SSS Tint change or Translucency Color change. :)
I agree and I spent the first forty years of my life in Canada and owned flower shops and the tone reminds me of the morgue (had contracts with multiple funeral homes, the police assoc and the hospitals.) I think its a great accomplishment and asset to one's tool box but there needs to be a golden version with yellow hues to accomodate California , and asian characters. If there are textures that can be beefed up in photoshop, hue and saturation might allow such adjustments.
This is pretty decent. Glad I bought it. Thanks for making it!
Double post. Sorry about that. Feel free to remove.
Y'all seem pretty excited about Altern8, so I picked it up based on y'alls recomendations. If it's good enough for Llynara, I figured, it must be worth having. The sample pics also helped...
Could anyone please be so kind to show some examples of how this works with George, Old Chap, Orc Brute and Ollie?
I know that for them I would have to use the "no map" options, but it seems that still some maps coming with Altern8 would be used to get it's magic done. So I wonder if there would be any changes in these character's somewhat special looks...
As for Ollie, Divamakeup did render this:
*blush*
LOL!
I saw where it was mentioned that you a beta tester, but bought it anyways to show your appreciation! Divamakeup seems like a nice person too, so that helped!
I just have an artistic appreciation r.e. how you make the old gen stuff look so nice, by working your texture magic, Llynara! That helped me get over my fear of buying V3/V4 era stuff... doesn't always work, but there are some definite hidden gems there if you don't mind putting in a little extra work.
I am using a converter to change v4 skins to g8. Is there a way to use Altern8 with those modified skins?
Ollie at 50% plus a bunch of tweaks, run through Altern8 (no maps).
I... am REALLY happy with how this came out.
Likin' it ;)
Laurie
I'm really glad you like it! Thank you for purchasing it! heheh :D
Your render is lovely! Is that RedzStudios' Aisling?
I have Ollie 8. I can cook up a render of his base shape with Altern8 applied if you'd like. Give me a bit, I'll try and post a render. I don't have the other three guys, though George and Old Chap are on my wish list. :)
hahah I hope you like the product! :) Llynara has been a great help with it - between beta testing, and offering great feedback, and rendering some lovely promo images - she's really an amazing help and a great friend! :)
It looks like someone over in the Commercial forum figured out how to use Altern8 for G8 with V4 characters: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3543956/#Comment_3543956
Such clever people!! heheh
That looks great, Will! Awesome work! :D
Ohh I really like how the hand details are poping there. That's a beautiful render! Is that Gail by Mousso?
The shaders and settings should only affect the skin and eyes and shouldn't affect any special looks of the character. :)
Here's Ollie's default shape with the "Lucas 8 B - No Maps" setting.
It's rendered with the "HDR A" and "Render Settings B".
Yes, Gail and I kinda cheated and used Charlotte's HD morphs and some other morphs on the feet and legs.

Hello Divamakeup, I have been testing Altern8 and have run into a number of issues, mostly small, but one more serious.
The major issue is that I cannot get Altern8 Lucas 8 gens to work on a G3M character. The colour is completely different to the Altern8 Lucas 8 body. I have tested this on a couple of G3M mats, including Michael 7, each time with the same result. I don't think that I am installing incorrectly as I get it to work fine on G8M mats, and I get Altern8 Edward 8 to work properly on G3M.
I would be grateful for some help with this.
Thanks
Aww, thanks! I really do enjoy reviving the older stuff. They need some love too! Some of those products are still amazing.
Diva-
Great product! I really like the added render settings. Here's a side by side comparison using my latest creation, Valerya for G8F. Her skin is a custom created texture. From the viewers' POV, on the left is with Altern8 over the NGS2 settings. On the right is NGS2 only. In both cases, I have Dual Lobe at zero. Initially, I tried it with Victoria settings...but it made her look like a zombie. Then, I switched to Monique, and Voila'...very cool, dark and dusky girl...just the gypsy she was meant to be. Honestly, I was very happy with the NGS2 version. But, the Altern8 settings really add even more darkness and realism to her look. Thanks again...glad to be a supporter of a new and talented PA. :)
I'm really excited about this application to Valerya...on the one side, I have the nice heroine of the story. And on the other, I have the hard bitten, evil twin, that looks like she could chew barbed wire. :)
Thanks, and yes it is with Charlotte HD and some youth morphs... and some aging morphs. For the shader, I used Victoria 8 No Maps for the settings, then tweaked it until I got it to what I liked. Pretty quick setup once you get used to it. ????
A couple of comparisons;
Lucas 8 Tosos.
First render, right (dark) torso is Lucas 8 out of the box. Left (light) torso Lucas 8 with Altern8 settings lloaded. There appears to be a great deal more detail visible using the Altern8 settings.
Second render, the left torso settings are unchanged, the right torso is now identical to the left except that it has one (only) setting changed, bump is reduced from 2 to 0.5. I believe that this change makes the skin more usable for younger characters
This is the George texture using the Edward No Maps Altern8 preset.
I feel the presets look better on the males the red nose effect that i dislike is a great deal more promanate on females, I'm also finding that the bump is sometimes rather high giving a pitted look to the body skin, lighting seems to effect this quite a bit.
I LIKE the red nose effect for a lot of character types; it helps convey that rather white skin look.
Ollie shape, but Aldo skin run through Altern8.
