Yes it absolutely will work on other skins. You just pick the one that looks to be closest. You may have to play a bit with various settings, but its super easy and the results are beautiful.
I can't answer the gens question though.
Okay. Quick render of V8 with her V8 maps preset, plus Altern8 sclera, 75% translucency and a lips preset. EJ Vera's eyes and AprilYSH's Voss hair and OnFleek eyebrows. It does look better to me than the vanilla skin.
Im confused about were it is that I start. Do I need to use one of the character presets? If not, which shader do I begin with? Some documentation would have been appropriate.
So you have to use the provided character presets even for other characters?
I'll have to agree that a manual would be handy. But yes, the character presets are where you start. Although the tips at the beginning do tell you. If you get the white face effect, apply the corresponding preset to turn the diffuse overlay off.
Hallelujah! Olympia's orange is gone! That alone has made Divamakeup a heroine to a lot of us. I guess we will have to see what happens when Dimension-Z finishes his NGS3
What do the skin look like with whatever that bright light is (headlamp?) turned off?
In every single promo theres a strong light coming from directly behind the camera, I can see it reflected in their eyes. I'm not a huge fan of that lighting at all.
Poor Victoria looks like she’s been crying, which is an interesting look.
I posted these over in the commercial thread. I used the Victoria 8 preset plus a few changes. Diva's shaders cut render time down by over half! The first render is the original skin.
Some test renders on a character of mine. Altern8 definitely gives a bit more texture. Render times increased ever so slightly for me. For first scene, for example, original character took approx. 9 min 30 sec. First Altern8 test took 11 min; second test took 10 min.
(Also pay no attention to slight variation in lip color. That had to do with the original mat settings...)
I like the Original (skin, lips, eyes). Altern8 really helps the Caucasian skins. Monique has great skin as is. And Darius could use some help, but I was not really impressed with his image in the promos.
Your character looks cool and real. And her hair is really nice. I want hair like that!
Going to purchase and test when I get home. It's already looking like this may render faster than Anagenesis while looking quite impressive :)
Great job, Divamakeup — will deifinitely be picking this up today!
It will work on any G8 or G3 skin. The character presets are customized to those characters, just pick the one that is closest in coloring to the skin you want to apply it to and use the "No Maps" option of that preset. If it's a medium to dark skinned character, the Darius No Map presets are a great starting point. There are lots of gen shaders too that work on the anatomical elements. They work fine, I tested them before Diva added a bunch more. Should be plenty to choose from.
Thanks so much! Darker skinned characters are always trickier. Even Anagenessis's "Dark Skin" setting doesn't fully do it for me.
I've been experimenting more, and I think my fave thus far is my original textures plus Altern8's dual lobe spec + glossiness settings I got from M8 No Maps. I'm really enjoying messing around with this product!
Ooh, that looks good! I love her freckles and the skin shine!
Thank you, and thanks to Divamakeup for this awesome product!
The fact that render times speed up is awesome, and it gets rid of the waxy look, but the one thing that bothers me is that many characters seem kind of grey/blue or ash looking, as if they've never seen the sun. As someone who lives in sunny California, I'm not used to that color skin and prefer a healthy (at least light) tan. Can this work with a more suntanned look? Somewhat like Charlotte 8's skin color, (I love her skin!) And I like Ollie's tan skin.
I would love to see some renders with a more sunkissed look... I may the only person who actually likes the "orange" skin tint because I'm so used to that in real life between real tans and spray tans so prevalent here LOL!
I looked the promos in the store. I can see a difference. There is detail that shows up nicely. However the models with the applied product seem to turn into pale pasty skin tones. Are there settings to offset the pale look?
There are some SSS Tints and translucency colors if you want your character to be less pale. Divamakeup seems to be answering questions to the commercial thread:

Okay, I'm in. Going into me shopping cart. Thanks.
Woot! Woot!
I actually prefer the original. The redder nose on the second makes her look like she has a bad cold and mixed with the lighter skin looks like she has been housebound for awhile (probably because of the cold, LOL)
I'm hoping that theres a way to avoid the red nose effect
I agree - its the red noses that are putting me off.
+1
Agreed, but I also think it has to do with the characters' mats. Many of the tanned characters have pale skin textures just like in the promos. From what I understand, this product is meant to bring out the more "natural" look of the mats without the added orange.
Yes, I also prefer the original better. I only hope that for the other characters, the look after applying Altern8 will be better.
That is an INCREDIBLE render. OMG! The details and realism to the skin is really nice.
After a bit of testing, I noticed that if your character originally has light skin, you have essentially two alternatives: the Victoria preset, and the Charlotte preset (IOW the characters which originally have the lightest skin). Otherwise it will look pale and upping the translucency won't help.
The red nose and ears is diminished to a good extent if you change the translucency color, either with one of the presets or by going directly to the Surface editor.
Sorry guys, I had to grab some sleep. I'm back now - with COFFEE! lol
I'll be reading through this thread and the one in the PA Commercial forum and answering any questions I can. :)
The product works on any G3 or G8 skins - it's not reliant upon owning any skin or character to use. :) The product comes with "maps" presets for 10 of the Daz Originals "Official 8" characters but there are "No Maps" presets also that can be used on other characters. Altern8 also comes with a lot of adjustment settings so that the settings can be customized for different skin types.
There are 14 gen shaders that can be used on either male or female. None of the settings are "gender bound" and can be used on either gender. :)
