I agree. I kitbash all the time and would be great to have a thread with examples for new ideas.
Yes. This one was really deep. People complained that an outfit didn't come with pants.
Someone suggested that people put pants on the character.
People do and now it's a whole new world.
This is a great day of revelations.
Yah, I agree. I can honestly say that ive done more with this outfit in the last few days than I have with at least 80% of my runtime. Everyones kitbashing renders and ideas have been outstanding.
LOL
Finally got it installed and having a play with it. I see lots of kitbashing ideas, especially with using the geomtry editor and creating new material zones along with new shaders
Nice. You killed the vest too.
Nice figure placement. Has a good sense of weight.
WHAT???
You must explain how you made new MAT zones!
Nice Pic!
Easy, use the geometry editor, select the polys in the outfit or model that you want to change and create a new surface from the selected polys. In my image, I selected the top part of the vest since it was all one material zone and made a new one for the top with a black burlap type shader. For the pants, that is a rubber shader with scifi design over it. I just applied it to the G8 legs and took the geometry editor again and created the bottom part of the torso and applied the rubber shaders to it also.
I agree. I am glad I started this thread because I would never have gotten this outfit because it's really not my style. But after seeing all of the renders from everyone made me see the possibilities. And yes maybe there should be some kitbashing thread.
Cool. Ill have to try that out.
Heres another render. Pei Pants, Alphakini, Emeka Belt.
Dang, I stepped away for a bit, and there are 52 new posts. Well, I'll read them later. But here's my render finished two days ago that I forgot to post. Linday's stuff (except for the funny-conforming men's military jacket) really makes me smile.
@FSMCDesigns: I have a car that I need to make material zones for. But in the past, when using the geometry editor, I was not always able to make a smooth line between zones (I was using the marquee tool). Can you shine any light on my conundrum? Thanks again for your help on technical stuff.
Man! You guys rock! Great jobs EVERYONE, and keep it up.
I'm having a bit of trouble with the boots.
I'm trying to apply the outfit to G3F using SY Genesis 8 Clones. This works very well (aside from some bust adjustments, minor stuff), until I get to the boots. They look great when its in the default pose, but moves off as soon as I apply any poses. Selecting and moving the boots themselves doesn't help as they are a single unit - move one and the other moves too.
Any solution? Or do I just do more kit-bashing?
footwear, especially higher heels never autofit well on any generation in my experience
For G8-G3 conversion, there's another way that skips the clones and often works better. Here's Sickleyield's tutorial.
The line depends on the modeling and the placement of the polygons. I would select each poly with the drag method as I go and keep adding to that new material zone.
As you can see from the image, while I might want a straight line, the polygons curve at both ends towards the wheelwell. The only way to texture a straight line would be to retexture it with an actual texture based on the UVmapping of the area you want the line in.
Thank you!
Ok having a little fun with her and the outfit. I really need to put together a helmet in hand grasp pose for it as well. Not always going to be wearing it.
Thanks for the explanation and the illustration. Fortunately, it is UV mapped, and I have the textures, but I was hoping to bling them out a bit. I can resist no further: I shall have to learn to do this for myself.
Boots are annoying, but easier to bully into place than a lot of other kinds of footwear.
There's probably a better way of doing it. but I have generally just loaded in the boots twice, gone in and turned off one of the pair in each set (with the geometry editor one could just hide and delete all the polys of the one you don't want and save the remaining one as a scene or scene preset to load in whenever you want to use it.)
Then you load in each boot and parent it to the shin of the character that you want to wear it, and turn off the foot and toes. You might need to do some tweaking and scaling to get it properly fitted to the shin.
Apply pose to character, and then go in and manually pose the foot of the boot.
Like I say, there are probably better ways to do it. But this at least works. I've had various boots for various generations of figure on my characters, and this way they also keep whatever morphs they were originally made with. That helps with the fitting, if the original vendor gave them a lot of fit morphs.
Thank JOdel. That's pretty clever adding two sets and hiding one or the other. I've been following the Sickleyield tutorial and that has opened a whole new level of use/control over fitting. I knew that sort of control was in there, somewhere, but I didn't seek out learning about it until this problem bugged me enough I decided I needed help
I'm at Disneyland. In regards to G3, I haven't tried sickle yields tutorial but I do believe that the odd bend in the heel, the one that occurred in conversion, comes from the heel bone in G3. Zero that and it should straighten out( boot.heel.bend).
today has been a walk-on day at Disneyland. 15 minutes to get on the Indiana jones ride!
That's impressive. It takes nearly that long just to get to the boarding area.
That seems easier. I've just been rooting around in my foot poses looking for one that works best. So many high heel boots out there.
I live about less than an hour's drive from Disneyland, and often work at the convention center across the street, but I haven't been there in years. Odd that the lines are so short - Spring break has started for the area schools, and the weather is very nice. Cool but sunny. And I guess this has nothing to do with a Sci-Fi pilot outfit but meh.
