What is your favorite skimpwear? :)
You know that type of outfits: chainmail bikinis and pieces of fabric with pauldrons that don't protect vital organs at the slightest, small short dresses made even smaller and shorter by designer cuts all across the body, leotards and bodysuits which leave very little to imagination, modern clothes that you won't put on your teenage daughter or son. Love it or hate it, skimwear is here and most probably it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
But what is your favorite skimwear? Is there the one that you quietly like as a guilty pleasure, or maybe you use often as a part of more sensible mix-and-match, or maybe you truly like some of it as it is designed? Maybe promos make it look good and elegant, or maybe it reminds you of barbarian and barbarian princesses - male or female, what is your favorite skimwear?
I'm just curious :)
Personally I have several of 'guilty pleasure' category (Genesis Scout, Athlantya for Genesis and Blade Maiden), and several I like because promos look nice and elegant (AvaAdore, Hirilneth, The Light Mage)

Bras, panties and bikinis!!! :D :D :D (and Aiko3!)
I rarely use skimpwear as-is -- I only buy it as part of a promotion, for a contest, or to kit-bash (like with Quickwind and Scarlet fG). Which means I prefer what skimpwear I buy to come in multiple pieces and with versatile material zones . . . I gotta say that Xena's Wicked series is good for that, here's an example of the Wicked Bolero with the SuperSuit.
Either
1. Straps & Harnesses
2. Anything that is one inch too short or one size too small.
Anything in particular? Maybe something that combines both? :)
Right now I'm looking for a really short cropped leather jacket with long tight sleeves. I'm talking not even covering thee entire breasts. I can't find a picture of the exact jacket, but it comes into style occasionally. Biker style would be best, but a dressy one would work too.
The gear punk Jacket from Renderositys the right length, but lacks the sleeves.
For shorts, I like what I describe as the "panties with a belt" look. The Kit-1 shorts for Terai Yuki are a good example

As far as the straps go, I'd like to find a pair of stockings held up by suspenders. I mean the US definition of suspenders, not a garter belt. Think of a pair of thigh-highs held up by a pair of suspenders that go all the way over a woman's shoulders.
dx30's Sharp Sword outfit.
Looks like a two-piece, but it's really a gravity defying one-piece. :-)
And it was on sale all week for 40% off.

I quite like Frostbite
frostbite is more colourful than your casual mankinis :)
 he needs one of those belly size anchor tatts :)
yayy TY.
i was just thinking about what to dress her for beach volleyball.
I don't buy much skimpwear, though I do use it fairly often*...usually in order to test out a new skin texture I've purchased, or to experiment with lighting and skin surface settings (but maybe that goes without saying...the purpose of skimpwear is to show more skin, right?).
I'd have to say my favorite is Andromedas Legend, because aside from being cool-looking fantasy skimpwear, it also comes with props and poses for a great low price. Also the Genesis Supersuit, because it can be as skimpy (or not) as desired.
Honorable mentions include Amethyst Fantasy, Dragon Queen, and Briana Culaith (the latter in large part thanks to SnowSultan's renders of Smacky wearing it). For the guys, probably DragonLord.
*I was going to claim that I DON'T use it very often, but then I reviewed my render thread... ;-P
The outfit as a whole doesn't really fall into my definition of skimpwear, but the Mall Girl top wouldn't be allowed on non-uniform day at my daughter's school, and has been turning up in a lot of my renders lately.
Other than that, possibly Amathyst for Genesis. I don't use the skirt much, but the top and the foot-wear are pretty common for one of the races for the fantasy world I'm building.
Briana Culaith, I use that so much, I could have paid Turbosquid prices and still gotten my money's worth. ;)
edit: just read Scott's comments above, thank you very much!
Aery Soul's "Classic Fantasy" is great for those guilty pleasure cheesecake fantasy renders, but sadly seems to be no longer on sale. (Here's one of my images featuring it). Garee's Martian Princess is a possible alternative (as featured in this render).
The V4 Forest Dryad outfit is also nice if you want something leafy (here's another example image).
If you're more into science-fiction, Brazen is pretty good (as seen in this image, supplemented with V4 Basic Wear).
And if you want it steampunk-y, try Strapped Suit (of which, quite by chance, I just happen to have another image).
EDIT: Classic Fantasy is now back on sale at RDNA.
Soul mate!
Oh man I almost fell out of my chair.
I like primitive outfits for sword and sorcery type scenes. I don't care for "regular" clothes that are tight or ill-fitting for the purpose of being sexy, especially when it's presented as "this is how nurses and secretaries really dress!" I'd literally rather see people in full-on fetish vinyl because then I'm only asked to believe they deliberately are into a fetish, not that they deliberately put on clothes that didn't fit.
I say this for club wear, at least that's often how women do dress to go to clubs.
Greetings,
So for shirts, I'm partial to the Aussie Girl shirt and of course the Hongyu's shirt for V5 but these are mostly skimpwear when used...'right'. ;)
Another classic that I use all-too-often is Hongyu's Bikini.
Historically I have a bunch of renders that use pieces from Nightshayde for Genesis.
Lately I've been using shirts, cut-offs and shorts from these in a LOT of my renders: Tank Tops and Cut Offs. Of course Kimberly's shorts are also very cute.
For skimpwear I like shorts, and keyhole shirts, but all the keyhole shirts I use are V4 conversions to Genesis.

LOL!! Sweet =D
When I buy skimpwear, I mostly plan to use the items for mix'n'matching with other pieces for a more "modest" look, too, or for an occasional render featuring a subculture member (goths, punks etc). Here are the commercial ones which I found pretty daring but liked enough to buy:
- this one I'm sorta obsessed with, it's one of the few outfits I ever bought texture packs for... and a lot of them!!

http://www.daz3d.com/nerd3d-bike-gurl-42 - lucky enough to have caught this in an old Fast Grab for about quarter of the price =D
these aren't 100% skimpy, but borderline IMO:

I like how you provided a render for every single outfit, and "quite by chance" made me smile by some reason ^______^"
pwiecek, what figure do you need a jacket for? And do you have any particular model in mind?
wendy♥catz, O_O I'd never thought of that use of Frostbite. Hope he won't get a flu!
As for Amethyst Fantasy several people mentioned, I'm eyeing it too from time to time. I do like the skirt but I can't see myself using bra anytime soon -_-
Mustakettu85, quite a list. I have some of those, and there is a strange thing about Earane that I also have all or almost all texture packs for this outift but I never used it for any render ^^"
Right now I have a full load of non-graphics classes so I'm not really using ANY character. V4/A4 or A3 would be the most useful, especially if it worked well in crossdresser. Definitely not Genesis.
Just to re-iterate, I'm talking about a biker style jacket with a collar and long sleeves with cuffs. Optionally, zippered pockets and a belted "waist"
Greetings,
Oooh, @Mustakettu85, thanks for the pointer to SAV's Hot Men clothing. I love that kind of shirt. I wonder how well it'll convert to Genesis...

Oh my!!! :O LMAO Now there's one way I haven't seen it rendered lol thanks for the giggle.
As far as my fave skimpwear goes... gah, theres so many its hard to choose. Elf Age Light by 4blueyes is one Ive used a lot... and Aery Soul's stuffs as well.
For the jacket, I WOULD be using this one,
http://www.daz3d.com/crazy-nights-14672
except the way it is UV mapped makes it very hard to use a trans-parency to crop it.
But now that I think of it, I MAY re-map and re-texture it.
My favorite kind of Skimpwear is the kind that does not ride up my butt. I will pretty much wear anything butt thongs. I adore tassels and frilly hems, it helps hide my hairiness.
I simply went through my account histories on the three major sites =D As for the "smaller businesses"... this one might qualify, too: http://www.mec4d.com/store/index.php?_a=product&product_id=99
For me, the strange thing is that I seem to only use Chohole's textures for Earane =)
...the only skimpwear I have came bundled with characters like A5 (Bow Dress), Nata, Hitomi, She Freak4 (string bikinis), and of course, the "venerable" V4 Basicwear (which was admittedly a step up from the "airbrushed on" lavender bikini she loaded in with).
Never used any of this in a pic and probably never will.
Now the Troll Loincloth, that is a total fashion statement.
That just makes me want to revive the Michael Initiative thread...
If skimpwear sells well, then that's what'll keep getting made.
I suppose it depends on context - if it's a situation where little clothing would be expected, then it wouldn't be skimpwear at all, it would simply be appropriate... try wearing skimpwear in a sauna - suddenly character is actually overdressed ;)
That said, there are accepted fantasy art conventions that virtually dictate beautiful women fight monsters wearing armour that protects their wrists & ankles but exposes pretty much everything else, and the barbarian warrior wears a thong or loincloth. This started back in the days when erotic art was socially 'verboten' for the plebs and was a way of beating the elitists at their own game by tapping into popular culture instead of remaining within the classical culture preferred by those elitists that felt the plebs couldn't handle any form of artistic eroticism (many of those condemning 'immoral' popular art had their own secret collections of erotica).
My personal preference is to 'subvert' normal clothes e.g. applying shaders and strategic opacity adjustment of mat zones, as I delight in the unexpected or the 'oops' type wardrobe malfunctions :ohh: ...but even so, I still find uses for skimpwear, albeit I'm fairly selective about which outfits I'll buy... it'll actually sometimes be one element of the costume or the extra props that I'll get them for (specifically to kit-bash with other stuff) rather use as a complete outfit. The better the mat zones i.e. multiple zones split in useful places (sleeves, cuffs, hems etc separate zones), the higher the chance I'll use it somewhere.
Suggested scenarios for skimpwear:
nightclubbing, performers, go-go dancers etc
intimate encounters
slaves, escorts, prisoners, concubines
gladiators & arena/theatre entertainers
If you don't do scenes along the lines of the above, then you might want hold fire on hitting that purchase button until you've weighed up if it's money well spent or not.
Yeah, I know, once I start talking then it's blah blah blah
.
O look what's popped up... now comes with DAZ Studio material presets http://www.runtimedna.com/ClassicFantasy.html
Is that a re-release of an older Rendo product of theirs? It looks weirdly familiar (all the gorgeous piping work on the arms and legs especially).
I'm halfway tempted to buy it for my Genesis guys. I can do my own package morphs easily enough now.
It's an updated re-release, yes.
I really like The Sentry (http://www.daz3d.com/the-sentry). It works pretty good on Genesis. I've never used all of it (or any other skimpwear) at one time on a single figure, but the items are really useful for kit-bashing.
