Yet another complaint:  Remember a few weeks ago I kvetched about an auction purchase that was taking forever for them to accept my money and ship.  Well, they did ship it, and it arrived today and it was busted. angry

Absolutely gorgeous jade ball within ball within ball carved from one piece of jade, but the middle ball is broken. crying  When disposing of the bubble wrap that encased it during shipping a piece about the size of a dime and several tiny fragments fell onto my desk, and when I closely examined the ball, there's a piece about the size of a quarter flopping around inside near where it broke.  Arghhhhh.    I'm going to have to see if I can shake out any other loose pieces, then gather some tools and find an appropriate glue and use my desk magnifier and lots of patience to see if I can prop the pieces back into place and hope the glue holds. sad  I'm through with on-line auction houses.  no  I want to hold my potential treasures in my hands before I hand over my cash from now on.  Even if it means I have to travel to find a place that sells these exotic treasures. indecision

I blame the shipping packers.  They very carefully packed the outside of the ball against shocks, but the inside was completely unprotected, the loose shells of jade were free to flop around inside and bang against each other.  People just don't think anymore.

I collect vintage and antique fine bone china, and I have been lucky so far inasmuch as I haven't had one item of china arrive in less than perfect condition, including and old set of Japanese eggshell china, the really thin ones that you can see are slightly translucent  with a shadow geisha visible if you hold the tea cup up to the light.

The only thin that I have ordered from ebay that arrived damamged was a large stone ware storage jar (the pottery is almost ¼ inch thick) and the whole handle section was broken , and that was definitely the sellers fault, as the jar had jut been placed into a cardboard box, almost no packing, and not labelled as fragile.  When I queried her packing techniques the seller said that if you label things as fragile it is an invitation for the postmen or couriers to kick them around.  What a ridiculous argument.

My mother had one of those translucent face-in-the-bottom teacups.  She was really proud of it.  I don't know what ever happened to it.

I never really got into collecting china.  Although, my mother gave me a large set of Noritaki ("Tree-By-The-Lake" design) that I had for years.  My other half though, collected china sets until I reasoned with him that we simply didn't have need nor room for more sets of china!  We both had to start collecting smaller and smaller things.  But then we both got hooked by miniature houses. frown I converted an antique glass front bookcase into a four-floor townhouse mansion.  We both worked on detailing it complete with exterior garden, wired working electric lights, crystal chandeliers, real minature silk rugs, walnut crown moulding, walnut flooring, a working teeny, tiny TV, and a flying saucer crashed into the junk filled attic. surprise  But it was when I was considering paying nearly $1000 for a miniature grand piano that I realized that it was an addiction that needed to stop. (cocaine would have been cheaper) blush  All that and the china, and the N-scale train sets, and the plethora of 19th century lithographs, and the over abundance of antique furniture went to auction after he died and I entered the ranks of unemployed over-50 software engineers.  But that was before I realized that DAZ would suck as much or more money out of me and I would have nothing physical to show for it! indecision  But DAZ stuff does have the advantage that it doesn't take up much space. yes

Good day!  Another slightly chill day, nowhere near as sucky as LG's weather: 46f with a small chance of rain.

Corn, sausage and stuffing left over so plenty to cook and eat.  Getting low on tea, will have to ddo something about that this week.  Still deciding how to deal with New Years Eve, ugh.

I desperately need a shave but after a week without shaving, it's going to be like mowing steel wool... owww...

Take a hot shower and make shaving the last thing before rinsing off.

Absolutely gorgeous jade ball within ball within ball within ball (4 balls) carved from one piece of jade, but the 2 middle balls are broken. crying  When disposing of the bubble wrap that encased it during shipping a piece about the size of a dime and several tiny fragments fell onto my desk, and when I closely examined the ball, there's a piece of the first inner ball about the size of a quarter floating loose inside near where it broke.  And the little dime sized piece that fell out looks like it came from the 2nd inner ball (the 3rd inner ball is solid).  Arghhhhh.    I'm going to have to see if I can shake out any other small loose pieces, then gather some tools and find an appropriate glue and use my desk magnifier and lots of patience to see if I can prop the pieces back into place and hope the glue holds. sad  I'm through with on-line auction houses.  no  I want to hold my potential treasures in my hands before I hand over my cash from now on.  Even if it means I have to travel to find a place that sells these exotic treasures. indecision

I called UPS to check on the process of returning it and getting some sort of satisfaction but I lose possession of the item.  This is an old and rare item, and I've looked for an affordable one for years.  I don't want to lose what will probably be my last chance to have one.  So I'm not going to return it or try to make an insurance claim.  I'll make it a goal to repair it as best as possible myself.  I can probably get it stable again and then turn the inner balls so that the cracks aren't obvious.  If no one picks it up and tries to turn the inner balls it should serve as a display piece quite nicely for another hundred years.

I actually shipped one of those once, made of wood. I threaded it through-and through with those big fluffy pipe cleaners that you find in art supply stores.
It arrived undamaged, but the customer gritched and gritched about how time consuming it was to remove the cleaners.
I resolved that if I ever sold her another, I'd fill it with expanding foam.

There may be easier and cheaper solutions, however Paleo-bond seems to work pretty well on minerals, and doesn't get that white foggy coating that cheap superglue has, and seems to last.  I've had a bottle and a tube stored in my fridge probably for a decade, still using the original purchase.  You can get it in different viscosities, so thin like superglue or thick if there's a slight gap in what you are gluing and the pieces don't fit together perfectly.

Wasn't Nog a character on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?  I think Quark's nephew.

No, byt Nog the Inescapable was a character in a Glen Cook novel:

...wow began downloading items for install and tapped out my C Drive (only 256 GB).  Didn't realise that the average size for the IBL skies bundle are around 650 MB each.(and there are 7 per each product for  42 files)  Was actually down to about 200K on C: when I looked at it after getting "download failed" errors.

Forgot that the DIM places files in the Documents folder after installing.  I like having a backup in case something goes wrong (like happened yesterday with G2F when for some reason only the head and a foot poses showed under Poses in the parameters which messed up a scene when I loaded it).

Moving everything (about 122 GB) to the a downloads backup folder on the larger drive. Wonder if there is some way to re-direct files there after they install.

You don't have to install to the C: drive, or even to My Documents.  I don't.  You can tell the DIM-wit to put them in a path upon which you decide.

    Dana

..oh I do that for installation, it's just that the file backups still get sent to the C:/user/document's folder after installing. Don't know how to re-route those.

    Settings, Downloads tab.

    ....OK thanks.

My light alarm just went on.  Light alarms go on not off.  Actually it is just a light on a timer.  It turns on at 6 am so I can know to wake up by 6:30 am in theory.  I was already awake but not up.

I want to ask how to install Bryce instead of complaining about someone telling me to mind my own business.  Of course they had to get into my business in order to know if I got into their business or not.

edit Also I was not told it was a secret or anything.  I was not told not to tell.

edit2: it was about instant coffee and I did not care either way.

edit3:  hmmm probably should look where I got Bryce to find the download.  Oh it is Daz3d.com I think.

I am bored.   I got enough sleep.  Right now I cannot play with Daz studio because an iRay render is being done.

Open up a second instance of Studio.

I often opperate with two and even three instances at the same time; 1 rendering on one card; another I might have spot/test/check rendering on still another card, and even be doing stuff on a third instance.

So I can do an iray render while playing with a second instance of studio?  Is that why I can open multiple instances of studio?

...MLB has actually been making moves to "speed up" the game here like eliminating intentional walks and giving pitchers less time to warm up when there is a pitching change because of the complaints.  This nation is just one lot of impatient people I guess.  They'd probably liken cricket to watching paint dry (which really makes me wonder about the fascination with golf which is much slower than baseball or watching cars go around in circles for several hours)

...35° here heading upwards to the low 40s with the threat of freezing rain in the city finally over.  Big relief as I'm heading out to get together with a friend in about an hour.

Looks like back to a more "normal" winter here temp wise but another uncharacteristic dry spell on the way after tomorrow's and Friday's deluge and almost spring like temps in the 50s.

My TV will not turn on just by me thinking about it turning on.  Nor will my FireTV stick start a netflix movie with thought power.  My remotes are on my dresser which means I got to get off the bed to watch Netflix.   I also am afraid dinner is soon but not Daz soon so I am afraid that as soon as I get the effort of getting the remotes, turning on the TV and the FireTV stick and finding a movie it will be time to eat.  I would ask Charley the goldfish to get the remotes but he is more lazy than me.  yep he just wants to play in the aquarium plants with Leo the goldfish.

    Which one?

Jumanji.  Had to look up spelling.  It was a fun movie.

I've seen trailers, it looks like a blast!  Now on my must-see list.

I wish I could give you one but it probably better if you get one from a store local to you than for me to send a used headphone via mail.
