I really love Genesis 8!

  • The more I use this figure and morph her the more I fall in love.  I especially love how DAZ removed the useless nail bed geometry, and welded the fingernail and toenail geometry to the figure.  They kept a bit of geometry under the nail tip which is absolutely what they should have done.  Goodbye to those endless hours of shaping nail beds so the geometry doesn't protude through nail geometry and cause hot pixels in Octane.  Now shaping fingernails and toenails are a breeze.  She bends even better than Gen 3, and her facial expression detail is fantastic!!  I would put a DAZ Gen 8/V8 up against any of the so called $600.00 and above professional figures found on other sites!  DAZ has a huge winner here.  I can't wait to see the HD morphs...I think we are well on the way to hyper realism.

    Thanks again DAZ!!

Whoa - that close up of the feet looks amazing! Feet is often such a dead give away and often ruins photorealism. Is that a custom morph? Or a certain figure? It doesn't look that good on my base G8F figure.

Hey divamakeup, thanks so much!  Yes, its a custom morph I made in Zbrush....it took about 15 minutes to do with GoZ.  To make the same morph with Gen 3 it would have taken hours as Octane shows any poke through with overlapping geometry such as seperate fingernail and toenail geometry on the older figures.  Thanks again DAZ for this fantastic new nail geometry!  I totally agree about feet.  They may not be the most important body part, but often times when ignored they do break the realism if they are fake looking.  Another thing I noticed is sometimes HD morphs go light on foot detail because most people may not care.  If you get good HD morphs such as Beauty toe (hope he releases a new version for Gen8) it goes a long way in realism.  You can usually stuff feet into shoes, and not have to worry about them, but most people (women especially) wear sandles so you have to make them look real.

They turned out beautifully! You inspired me to try my own feet morph:

They didn't come out nearly as good as yours, but I think they at least look better then the default feet.

Any chance you'd share your feet morph? If not I understand. I'll just keep working on improving mine if you'd rather not share it. :)

Hey divamakeup, that looks fantastic!!  Just for laughs mess around with the toenail shapes as well...you can find them on the good ol'intnernet of course.  I am messing around with the fingers now, but I find them to be more realistic out of the box than the feet.  I have to wait for HD morphs because I can't seem to get Normal Maps to show up with the specular material in Octane.  Nice job!

"Wow, super looking renders are the norm now!"

Nice skin & lighting in  the renders indeed.
    But I still see
Shrink wrapped breasts and  late 1990's early 2000's "poser "hair.angel

until that part of the DAZ technology moves into the 21 st century
    I shall remain unimpressed.

    On the G8 figure itself
it seems that G3+ addons set a really high Standard this time.

Maybe in a year when all of  Zev0's products are updated
and there is a reasonable replacement for GENX
then G8 will actually be on par with its predecessor.

At this point it is like buying the exact same model car
you had two years ago with slightly better windshield wipers
and congratulating one's self for successfully
manually refitting the old cup holder, Wheel, and Seat covers to the "New" Vehicle.

What texture did you use for the feet in your pic? A custom one? Did you use something off the DAZ store as a base?

Ooh. That reminds me, this generation I need to make some feet morphs at least for myself. I always find the defait foot shape wierd lookin (mostly because I'm so used to my own feet, which could be generously described as looking like a greek statue's)

I'd be interested in feet morphs or toe morphs for G8F. Would you consider putting them in the Daz store for sale (or giving them to the community). I'd be happy to pay for good realistic feet or toe morphs. :)

    I second the notion!

A quickie test render with V8. I very much like how the specular highlights look with the new skin material, which is using the added options in Iray Uber shader (dual lobe specular & chromatic SSS). I think the eye materials could use a little more work though :)

Very nice render. God, her eyes look so real, especially the whites. WOW.

Agree, until one notices that the eyebrows are fake.

    Hey Guys,

I am wondering how to fix this issue with Genesis 8 and the new eyelashing system.
As you can see there is a white basis which looks like an eyeliner at first...but it is the basis of the eyelashes.
Any ideas how to get this fixed ?

    Thanks for your insight :)

    Best regards.

Check to make sure it has a shader applied. It is perhaps possible that it is the angle of the camera to the light source and the those surfaces, but doubt it.

The white is the Eye Moisture material. That and the cornea, are attached to the eyelashes mesh. I feel they probably should have kept the first two as part of the head, but I guess they had their reasons.

Edit: oops sorry...it's only the eye moisture that's part of the eyelashes mesh. The cornea remains part of the head I guess. The eye moisture is the tear at the bottom of the eye that lies on the lower eyelid edge. Make it a water shader and it won't be so "white".

Thanks all for your replies <3

I found my issue...it was related to preferences !

I unchecked "Try to map Geo Graft replacement materials internally"  and it disapeared :)

I created a combination out of Victoria 8's skin and the veins and moles overlays from Mackenzie and and it looks amazing. No postwork.

Now what is the most realistic hair to use?

Here's the nail removers for gen8f

    consider them the beta* version

    * if I were doing them again I'd make the filled hole one bigger all round as it is they represent the nail bed, but that means they have a bit of a ridge, and since you can't export it out as a whole, making a morph for it would have required way more effort. They're definitely not perfect, but still pretty functional. I'll probably stick them on sharecg at some point, but, honestly, I'd have to render an image for them and I just... eh
