It's not 2 names for one product. Genesis 8 and Victoria 8 are different, and they have always been.
Genesis 7!! I definitely missed that release.
Hehe...Genesis 3...sorry. It's gonna take awhile until my synapses catch up with the number change ;).
Laurie
Don't worry, it's not just you :) I posted mentioning G7 the other day (well, it's the one before G8, right? :) ), but spotted it and edited before anyone noticed!
That's why I will continue to refer to the new generation as G4; so I don't get confused.
Genesis 3 was the one before Genesis 8
I am not going to give away tons of my money for tons of converters and extra morphs from third party artists again just to get the possibility to create a nearly good working figure that works smooth with nearly each pose. So G8 is no option for me.
So all that detail is bump maps and normal maps? NICE! Just shows you don't NEED HD for highly detailed characters. :)
The one big limitation with Normals and displacement is that it can only reflect details that move in or out along the surface.
Imagine a surface with small thorns that rise and curve back; you can't do that without a morph, and probably need HD to get it right.
timmins has it. I've found some morphs that don't transfer well. I guess the hag looks good because she's essentially a human shaped creature...just a really extreme ugly one ;). If you look closely at the legs along the edges you can see that there are no raised areas like there would be ideally, but for what is is, it's not bad at all ;).
The zombie morphs so far are giving me problems around the mouth where the lips are shrunken back into the face...on G8 the morph smears from the top of the mouth to the bottom like it can't figure out where the vertices in the lips are and what is the top and what is the bottom lip. I'm going to try to take it into Hexagon or 3D Coat and see if I can't smooth and try and fix those areas. If not, it's not a huge deal ;). I'll just use G3 for zombies...hehe. For close ups I'll likely be using the G3 versions of any of these morphs - it's just nice to be able to have things you can mix until the PAs and Daz supply a decent supply of new ones.

I'm going to call it Genesis 3.5, since it's really just a few changes to the same old Genesis 3 figure.
I think you succeeded very nicely in creating a very believable character. Kudos!
....so people talk about transferring G3 morphs to G8. Does that mean the general G3 Body and Head moprhs will work? Does the same go for G3 moph vendor resoruce content?
A masculine or feminine look is characterized by certain bodily and facial traits or attributes which are intuitively recognizable in any body/face. It has nothing to do with whether the person is real or a 3D character or just a simple drawing. There is actually a science behind this but that's a long story.
"45 going on 60" is a little harsh but there are minor contradictions of the character's age in the render. The pronounced nasiolabial fold and dry, greying hair suggest an older woman but the rest of her facial proportions, skin tone and coloration are a younger adult's (if her hair were darker and shinier and the NL fold were less prominent, she'd look like she was in her early to mid forties). Aging is a lot of detail work as well as structural changes.
And to be blunt her jawline and chin are pushing the boundaries of what a genetic female with otherwise feminine proportions and bone structure would have. While it's true that aging can make a chin more prominent, that's the recession of soft tissue which isn't at work here.
It is otherwise a very nice composition and the clothing fits the character well. Please don't hate me for my armchair crit.
I've known more than a few women with such jawlines and chins let alone 'masculine noses'. Often the most obvious feminizing traits are the hair style, clothing, and body traits.
I think so. I just transfered the G3F "Heavy" morph without any problems.
I dont know if its just me...but any way.
So finally the newst edition to the Genesis family was aded...Victoria 8. ( i was waiting with anticipation for a long time btw)
When i first saw her at the Daz store at first i thaught that she was just another character for Victoria 7 (Gen. 3)...but no wait...its really a whole new Victoria 8!...
And now follow my thaughts and first impressions...to be perfectly honest i was expecting after all these years that the newest additon to the Genesis family would be an incredibly realistic new character, almost to the point where you would have to ask yourself if it was really a 3d model or a real person!...but in all honesty that was far from the impression that i got when i saw Victoria 8. I mean...one would assume that after all these years and the different versions of Victoria since the very beginning up to the present day...that the latest Victoria would look so incredibly realistic that it would be literally jaw dropping...again, not the feeling i get with Victoria 8. When Victoria 7 first came out...i did have that WOW feeling...i was impressed at the improvement over previous versions (Victoria 4, Gen.2, Gen.3)
But with Victoria 8 i dont have that WOW feeling (at least not from what i have seen so far...it still remains to be seen what content creators will do...because after all, V8 is till a base figure...but like i said...i was, and still am impressed with even V7 base figure!)
I would love to hear different opinions about this:
Let me know your thaughts and first impressions...was i wrong to expect a real novelty?...and incredibly realistic almost photorealistic 3d figure?...i mean is Daz3d not far enaugh in the game to be able to produce such a 3d figure by now?...i feel like Daz is going steps behind instead of forward.
Any way...those are my thaughts...any one feel free to correct me.
Have a nice day.
V8 has very realistic expressions and muscles bending are very realistic too, what is lacking to me are the eyes, clothing and hair. I was expecting a lot more.
You are absolutely right by saying that you were expecting alot more!...and i will add to that by saying...A hell of alot more!...i mean common people...V8 was supposed to be like the absolute culmination of years of 3d technology and advancement...i was honestly expecting her to look almost lke a real human being where you could hardly tell the difference between 3d and real.
I mean if i had a chance to speak one on one with the Daz creative team...there is only one thing that i would say to them:
How are you using G3 (or G7 as you said) morphs on G8? When I select G8 figure, I can't see any of my older morphs?!
Merging this thread with one of the main threads in The Commons.
I have just one question. Ok, so model generation 8 it is then but.... why it is also being called Genesis 8 because if I count it right Genesis generation is at 3rd generation. So next Genesis should be 4, right? Is Daz following Msoft's footprints with marketing? ( in case you don't know msoft jumped from win 8 to win 10, without never bringing out win 9. ) This makes it confusing to keep track of anykind really.
People were talking about Victoria4, Michael4, Kids4 as the Generation 4 or in short Gen4
You may see where discussions would end if DAZ named the 4th generation of Genesis "Genesis 4" or in short Gen4 .....
So it is Genesis 8 and Victoria 8 now.
Care to explain what's wrong with the eyes?
In that specific render, I can see these:
1. Left eye, left part, looks too bumped.

2. Both eyes, "tear duct / lacrimal caruncle", looks too whiteish, should be more flesh-ish, missing texture?
3. Bot eyes, transition iris -> cornea sclera, looks strange
I admit some things you see in detail only when you zoom in, but it's these subtle things in eyes that make them convincing or not - you look at them and you feel there is something wrong, albeit you don't know what.
Don't want to diss you render, really. Just try to point out what I personally think could be improved.
Edit:
Just noticed I said left eye, where it is the right eye. Left means "when you look at the image, the left one". ;)
Edith2:
Did a quick render of default G8. What stands out immediately to me is the border Iris->cornea. Way too sharp for my personal taste, looks like a cutout (which it probably is). :(
To tell more, I'd need a full render for the details to pop out, but my PC says it's way too warm to do any extended rendering today. :(
Also did a quick render with G3 default (with G8 eyelashes, sorry), judge for yourself. I'm really not too sure, need more full renders to make a final judgement...
Edit3: Cornea = Sclera. I'd be an awful eye doctor :D
Double post
Care to explain what's wrong with the eyes?
Needing improvement is one thing. But since he said he expected "a lot more", that sounds much more like a bigger issue. If we have to nitpick to this degree, DAZ is doing plenty right!
