      ...rant.

Been dealing with insensitive people online concerning the housing crisis where I live.  I cannot believe the heartlessness of these jerks.  I wish they were in the same situation that I am dealing with.

You don't have to worry about housing when you're 30 and live in your mom's basement. wink

Non-complaint: The other day my Internet bandwidth was increased majorly (for free!) by the phone company but I haven't really noticed any speed improvements until today when I grabbed a bunch of the new DAZ freebies and downloaded them.  Wow, downloads were done before I was ready for them.  Zip, bang, zowie!  All done!  Wheeee! smiley

Non-complaint: OK, I'm getting worried, too many lucky things have been happening to me lately. surprise

Not sure I mentioned this before, but a few weeks ago I went to a household sale and wandered through just looking at all the silly kitsch crap when my eye spotted a pen & pencil set in its original case and cardboard sleeve.  Upon examination, it turned out to be a 10K gold filled pen & pencil set by Cross which I knew was not cheap.  The price sticker on it for the sale was $10. smiley  I snatched it up and gladly paid my $10 to the ladies running the sale.  When I got home I was disappointed to discover that the pen didn't work, i.e. it wouldn't twist to eject the nib.  But the pencil worked just fine and even had several original leads still in the cartridge and the original unused eraser under the cap.  Out of curiosity I googled what the retail price of that set would be.  I think $220 was the highest price I found, but many discount places had it for $160 to $130, and you could get a used set on ebay for around $50.  Now I'm not enthralled by overpriced bling like solid gold pens for $5000 or gold Rolex watches for the price of a kidney operation, but this is a nice looking pen set and it's not just cheap gold plate (a few atoms thick).  "Gold filled" means that the metal is a sandwich of gold with a base metal like brass in the middle of the gold, and by weight the gold is at least 5% of the weight of the metal in the object which means that it doesn't scratch off or flake off.   So, knowing that I had lucked out and gotten a nice quality item for a song, I looked up the Cross company and discovered that their pens have a lifetime guarantee. yes  I contacted them and sure enough they would fix the pen for "free" provided I paid postage and handling ($10). indecision So I sent it in for repair which took three weeks.  To make a long story short (too late), for a total of $20 I now have a fully functional classy looking pen & pencil set to display on my desk. cool Wheee...

Finally got my stupid red stylus pen back.  It was not gone long but my boss was using it all day I think.  Nothing special about it.  The pen is red but has blue ink.  One end has the blue ink end but the other end is a Stylus.  It is just a free red stylus pen.  It is mine not my boss's

other than the stupid stylus pen I am wondering what is a video controller and how to assign the right driver to it so my 25 inch monitor will work with the old netbook.

I just want the monitor to work right so I can watch smallville or something else I have on my Microsoft movies and tv account.  It sees the right driver but refuses to install it.

    ..sweet deal.

probably the two best yard sale Items I got were a set of 5 glasses with the old old Eastern Airlines falcon logo on them gold lines and the phrase "Eastern's DC-8 B Jet, The Jet With Power to Spare".  Bought the lot for 2.50$  I later discovered these were made as a promotion giveaway on the first jet flights on the airline.in 1959.  Took one to an antique appraisal show and received varying estimates of between 20 & 30$ for each.

The other was an original 1982 Specialised Stumpjumper I bought for 35$.  It required a bit of TLC to get into a condition for daily use, and I customised it for commuting replacing the original rims with double walled ones, new brakes, swapping out the trail tyres for ones with  street treads, and replacing the large chainring on the front with one that had 53 teeth (the largest you can get), as well as 8 gear cluster in the back with the smallest cog having only 13 teeth (giving me one heck of a high gear so I could keep up with traffic).  I have received offers just for the frame alone (which has some scratches in the original paint) of between 750$ - 800$.

..agh got a scare when I got home from my market trip and booted up the system. There was a message from Norton that said the latest update failed and I had to go to the site where it recommended I do an uninstall/reinstall. Went through that before and it was a nightmare. Initiated the scan again and it is now downloading.

Heavy sigh, thought I had to head off to Frys tomorrow to get a copy.

...well everything updated fine except some function called Sonar.  I went to the Symantec forums and discovered that rebooting usually clears that up.  Did so and at first everything was fine then a few minutes later that warning message appeared again saying that the Sonar install had failed.  All other protections are showing a green functioning status.  So what the bugger is this "Sonar" supposed to do, or protect against?

"SONAR is an advanced form of Norton protection designed to give you a line of defense against malware that hasn't been encountered yet--and therefore cannot be identified and blocked by traditional, signature-based malware protection."

Basically stops and isolates or removes unknown programs that exhibit certain "malware-like" behavior in an attempt to prevent unknown virus infections.
