Or maybe "Nothing" is the reality and "Everything" is the illusion. indecision  Regardless, I firmly believe that everything came from nothing and in the end it all cancels out and comes to equilibrium at zero.  Then some jackass invents time and it all has to start over again. devil

Start Trek Voyager.  He never had a name, just The Doctor.  Based on Dr Zimmerman who designed him (played by same actor).  however, there were a few episodes where he tried out a name (a Viking-style holodeck adventure & his holographic family) but decided against it due to various reasons.

The fact that I know this so readily is a little disturbing... haha

I'm not sure if your TV is sensitive enough to see it; but you can hear it here: http://faculty.washington.edu/jcramer/BBSound_2013.html

Fun. I asked as the article used the snow on an untuned TV as an example.

Actually he did suggest a name for himself "Dr. Schweitzer" but I don't think he adopted it.  Actually I think he decided to let people call him 'The Doctor".  Which isn't a bad idea because it worked out so well for that time travelling guy with a TARDIS from the BBC who everybody calls "The Doctor".  And the fact that I know those things means that I wasted way too much of my life. frown

is there a way to convert a Sata hdd to an external hdd?

Absolutely!  Buy a SATA external disk enclosure.  One thing you have to watch out for though is heat in a non-ventilated enclosure.  Aluminum ones  are better than plastic ones.  Ones with fans are better still, but many of them are cheap and low quality, and the good ones are expensive.  They're made for either the typical desktop disks (3.5 inch) or laptop disks (2.5 inch) some will accept either size. And you need to be aware of your USB port speed on your computer and your USB speed of your external enclosure.   i.e. fast disk in a slow enclosure (USB2) attached through a fast (USB3) socket on your computer wastes the speed of the disk).

Also, because of the heat problem, the disks with 5400 RPM rotation speed generate less heat than the typical internal disk rotation speed of 7200 RPM  (i.e. go for the aluminum housing or a ventilated housing when using a high rotation speed disk)  And if you've got a hot disk in a poorly ventilated enclosure or location on your desk, don't use the disk for long periods of time!

All these reasons are why it's just easier and (usually) better to buy a commercially designed external disk already in a properly designed enclosure.

Another possibility is just lay the naked disk on your desk and attach a SATA to USB converter cable to your computer and point a small fan at your nakedly exposed disk drive. enlightened But watch out for static electricity. crying

Here's a link to the NewEgg.com catalog of external enclosures.  Use the filter checkboxes on the left to select your disk size and interface type wanted https://www.newegg.com/Hard-Drive-Enclosures/SubCategory/ID-92  I would suggest avoiding the lowest cost ones.  You get what you pay for! frown (The voice of experience)  Read the customer comments.

And here's a link to a simple cable to connect SATA (or even the old IDE aka PATA) disk interface) to a USB2 connector.  I haven't found one for a USB3 connector.  But if all you're interested in is connecting a disk for temporary storage or for testing, it works great.  I use one quite often. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200155&cm_re=sata_usb_adapter-_-12-200-155-_-Product  This product even works for either the 3.5 inch or the 2.5 inch disks. cool

...y'all might not be seeing much of me around here for a bit as my net service was cut off last night. I have a backup notebook, but it is XP and has no AV other than that screen door known as Windows Defender (and an older version at that). Typing posts on a phone is a total pain in the bum for me and the Daz app has it's issues (like popping up notifications and measages over what I'm trying to type).

Bummer about your connection issues.  I might be able to send you some of my new bandwidth, just send me a bit-proof box and I'll try to pack some into it for you.

Meanwhile I have two complaints of my own.  My NetFlix DVD queue finally got down to sending me the "Dr. Strange" movie and I was so excited to see it arrive.  I popped it into my DVD player and about 3 minutes into it I realized I'd seen it before.  frown  I have absolutely no recollection of going to see it but I apparently have.  Well, the silver lining about this is that I'm not completely senile, I at least remember the plot. indecision

Second complaint: I have a small labeling machine, you know, the small office tools that print labels on special, proprietary, overpriced half-inch wide sticky tape.  I've had the machine for many years.  Got lots of good service out of it, but lately it's been complaining and stopping now and then in the middle of a print.  Well today I tried to use it and it just won't print at all, it starts then immediately dies.  So, I bite the bullet and go to the office supply store and bought a brand new one that uses the same type of tape (I have several rolls of that tape on-hand that I don't want to waste).  I gleefully unbox my new toy, put batteries into it, painfully type in the long line of label info to be printed and press the "PRINT" button and it starts then immediately stops and shuts off the machine. ARGHHHHHH.....  I've tried another set of batteries.  No cigar! sad.  I'm going to try another tape cartridge and if that doesn't work, the whole shebang is going back to the store. angry

Ghaaaaa..., tried more batteries, tried another roll of tape.  Still doesn't work.   So, tomorrow I get to kvetch at a store clerk, about something that is not his fault, till I get my money back or somehow they find me a working labeling machine. yes

...well found a solution.  Turns out I can use my phone as a mobile hotspot and use the wireless connection on the computer instead.

Only thing is I loaded the PC freebie of the week in my cart but didn't realise I was I was not logged in at the time so now I'm stuck with that "cart-login bug" where it shows 1 item in the cart but when I open the cart it says nothing is there and I can't put it in the cart again. Logged out and back in again but that didn't fix it.  What is it now, four years with this software and this bug still persists?

    Submitted the usual support ticket.

I still have one of those old Dymo machines - with the dial that you twist and squeeze the handle so it embosses the character. Had it since the seventies, and it ain't crashed on me yet . . .

Course, I only use it about once a year!

I remember those! Cool invention at the time. cool   Sort of one step above chisel and rock. surprise But, the machines worked, and probably still work.  Unfortunately, for me, the tape had too much curl tendancy and never seemed to stick to anything for very long. sad
