RE: VP VUE ITEMS
Every VP Vue item has a cooresponfding Poser and perhaps even a DUF too by VanishingPoint but they are seperate product, look for these items.
The VUE product packages DO NOT INCLUDE other formats other than Vue VOB (&VOM). Exports of the VOB from Vue winn NOT result in the Poser verson as the materials and model group structure are very dfferent. All Vue products were highly optimized and textured specifically for Vue. I performed many of the Vue optimizations on VP products so shoot me any questions. Vue products like figures and vehicles that are animated/posable are done using Vue's rigged figure Object animation panel, and non rigged but posable items have Piviot Points set properly so Doors Open, Wheels Turn and Flaps Move..
Are the starship bridges coming over as well?
Those are what I really want.
A lot of the VP items do not correctly show the original artist. For example Obama and the Obama clothing were 9mbi items and I'm not at all sure he is making models anymore.
If the Vanishing Point irte
They are uber cool sets. I really loved working with these in creating Vue promo renders. Setting them up and posing just as fun as rendering. To give you an idea of versitility and agility of the sets, most promos images are micro perspectives of huge macro scenes that were fully loaded with all teh figures and props when the render was shot. Below you can see the interior set from the crafts exterior in a dense asteroid field.
Hmm. Some of these don't quite ring true.
Near as I can tell, the C-55 Rex Aircraft is not a real plane, though the page makes it out to be one.
While there's two B-17's in the offer, the Wreckage 4 from a few months ago is much better. (These new ones have some problems in the nose, particularly)
Assault Weapons 3 copied and pasted the weapons list from Assault Weapons 2. So its unclear what's actually in AW3. (I can make out an M4, a QBZ-95, a Heckler & Koch G36, and either a Dragunov or a PSL)
Okay, I only use Dax, nothing else. No Poser, no Vue, nada. So...
Which of these would be compatible and presumably usable with my copy of DAZ? The Poser version of a product or the Waveftont OBJ version? I'm not worried about shaders as I'd use my own to color up the object, I would just want the otem to show up in DAZ and be usable. Also, would these download and install under DIM, or would they require manual installs?
Thank you for any help,
Bob
The older poser (and other format) versions, will, as the rollout continues.
New Daz Versions..we'll see... (I _HAVE_ been working on sci-fi sets :) ).
I suspect that the wavefront ones have no rigging, but I've asked VP to clarify.
I assume they do use DIM, since that's DAZ's deal..but I don't know in fact.
*sigh*
What is needed with the Poser-specified items is *WHAT VERSION of Poser it was made for. Half (or more of) the PC+ collection is made up of Poser items which have only been given DS native updates in the past couple of years. They work fine in Studio. Not necessarily in Iray, but the geometry is the geometry and it does what geometry does.
Anything made for Poser (I think) 8 and earlier will work just fine in Studio. From about Poser 9 it gets a bit dicy with the rigging. But since most of these are props it ought not to be a problem.
I've confirmed the wavefront obj's are indeed just obj files, no rigging etc. The poser does.
And I've asked your question JOdel.... "all the Poser products work in Poser version 6 and above." They don't have fancy weight maps or the new PBR shaders.
With Poser 7 and earlier, Poser and Daz Studio used the same rigging system. So figures, poses, and props will work with Daz Studio, though there were some file types that did not carry over well or at all. Anything relying on python scripts, dynamic clothing, dynamic hair, node based materials (.mc5) would not work and external binary morphs(.pmd) only worked via a script available that allowed Studio to read and load .pmd files. .pz2 MAT files often required adjusting due to differences between Firefly and 3Delight and lights (.lt2) while they loaded often required a lot of work, I always found it easier to just use Daz Studio light sets. Poser 8 introduced a new rigging style that is incompatible with Studio, then Poser 9 introduced weight mapping using a system that is not compatible with Daz Studio. So Poser 7 or lower content should work in Daz Studio, but may require tweaking and ajusting to look right. Poser 8+ item are less likely to work due to different rigging systems.
I would think that would be against the EULA since you are redistributing the mesh to a third party for conversion. There are plenty of free apps that can be installed to convert mesh formats.
Such as?
I hadn't really thought about that but you could be right. Propviewer, Blender, and MeshLab are free and can also do conversions. One caveat: 3DS Max files (i.e. max format) are proprietary and can not be converted without 3DS Max (expensive)
I want to buy these, but I'd like this cleared up before I do.
Also with these sets; it says on the store page they're "fully poseable". Does this mean "moving parts" since they're .cr2 figures? I'm asking this because I have two of the earlier Panko Arms sets apparently by the same creator, and they're all single-piece props.
I'll see what I can find out :)
Like Scavenger this post isn't an "offical" VP one, my comments below only relate to the stuff I've worked on. Though I'm sure if you have any questions VP will be more happy to try and help.
Firstly, the core point to make, is that Kinich is correct. The majority of these are perfectly fine within Studio. In fact they'll work fine in almost every 3d app out there... from Poser to the latest version. Vue, Blender, Max, Lightwave, Bryce, even high end stuff like Keyshot.
Why? Because thats how I designed them to work and the only expection to this is materials. Thats not a fault of the models, it's because each bit of software deals with materials in it's own way. So just give the materials a little tweak and it'll be fine.
Think of it like working with timber. If you made a table in a hardwood, you'd work in a slighlty different way than you would with a softwood. But you'd still use a saw on both.
Secondly my descriptions. thistledownsname is correct. The C-55 Rex Aircraft isn't a real plane, and yes the product description is written like it is.
Why? Because 3d stuff is fun and that's reflected in the way I make things, write descriptions and the promos. After all how many people do you know that would make a Batmobile for a Chihuahua
OK sure at the moment these are poser models not studio ones, but as new stuff comes out so will both versions. Indeed if anyone wants to help out by making studio specific versions of freebies, I'd be more than happy to hear from you.
.
Dang it. That ticks me off. There were several things I really wanted but just watned to be sure they'd work in DAz before buying.
Panic Thee Not. Stuff is still there if you look at the sellers page...
https://www.daz3d.com/vanishingpoint
.
Yes, but there is only the 30% introductory discount. The $5 or less price and the discounts for multiple items are gone. My cart with 6 items that was a total of $18 just jumped to $49. NOT HAPPY !!!
I thought it would last at least for the day.
Dumping everything and not purchasing anything from DAZ
Have you tried contacting daz customer support and asking them to restore the sale or honour the prices in your cart?
.
Yep.. same here - saw the sale today, found a few items I wanted at $5.00, then we had a power outage for hour or so.. Came back, and lo and behold $5.00 became $12.95 .. The $5.00 price was a good value for older stuf, but not so at the "updated" discount, that's one lost sale for Daz..
Just got online for the day half an hour ago. Saw the email, thought it looked like it was worth checking out, clicked the link... blank page.
Not a good way to get my money, guys.
Yes, but it is the weekend and of course I don't have any screen shots that I can use to prove my cart prices; so I'm not expecting any action.
Please submit help tickets. I have submitted a ticket indicating how unhappy I am with pulling the sale before I could complete my purchases. I'm not sure if it will do any good but if enough people submit tickets to sales, maybe they will correct this.
ok..sorry for the delay on this...I was up late working on exciting new products and dozed off soon after sending the question to VP....and I see a lot has happened in the meantime....
They're single piece props that that can be parented and posed. There's been some....snags..in the descriptions brining so many things over at once.
Here's what I got for the packages:
ASSAULT WEAPONS 2
ASSAULT WEAPONS 3
Oh..and I've learned since I typed the above, that some of the models MAY have moving parts..sigh.
