Lots of interesting new stuff by Vanishing Point, but ...?

... but most of the stuff is either Poser or Vue or Wavefront obj. Does that mean these objects aren't usable with DAZ Studio at all? Or does it just mean the textures might not be usable with DAZ Studio, but the object itself is?

you mean the shaders.
Textures should be useable but don't buy the Vue ones unless you are using Vue.
Its possible that there may be some warping in the mesh on some of the models. I asked how to fix this here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/72897/what-methods-can-be-used-to-fix-warping-poser-models#latest . The model that I used this fix on was the VGF-14 D Wildcat (for Poser) by Chris Schell. This may work if you have a warping issue.
A number of these items where previously available from Poser Direct and I have picked a few up from there in the past, on the whole they will work in DS with the usual limitations on materials, Poser specific shaders won't work, map based materials will load but may not load all maps, or load them in the wrong place (normal maps tend to end up in the Bump map slot in my experience, not that any of the models I have from Poser Direct use Normal map), other issues might arise and Scavenger is working on DS conversions of some VP items (see here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/167566/scavenger-graphics-art-is-where-you-find-it-commercial )
So you might want to hold off is you want DS specific versions. In the mean time below are a couple of quick renders of the Battle Bug (I got this from Poser Direct) first is a straight 3Delight render of the Poser Model (a single AOA Ambient light). the second is with the Poser Materials converted to Iray (Default Environment Lighting) using the standard Uber Shader.
Edited to correct Daz/DS reference as per Chohole's post below.
That does look decent. And the price is so sweet, I might give it a try. Even if it's not perfect, these items are still good.
Please ....... Daz Studio or just studio or D|S DS or such
DAZ or Daz 3d is the Company
These are VP back catalog items, coming to the Daz Store for the first time.
There are great bargains to be had for sure, but these are older versions of models for Poser and other programs (like Vue).
I am working with VP to update their models for Daz Studio ...new iray materials, updated 3DL ones, extra featues and options.....both these and ones that aren't in the Daz Store yet in any form.
If there's something you'd like to see updated, let me know by PM or in my vendor thread :)
(as an FYI, the ambulance that's in the sale is in my queue for upgrading...I think that's the only one of the sale items that is---it was requested by a forum member).
First of all I'm interested in the anatomical stuff. Second are the planes.
The 3D Studio Max versions will come in handy.
I picked up one of their Airbus aircraft models (from Poser Direct, I think), and when I loaded it into DS, the model looked fine, but the textures were reversed, so clearly something connected with the UV layout had been interpreted differently to the way it worked in Poser. I reversed the UV layout in DS, but this only partially corrected the issue, and I was forced to edit the texture map to get it to work. It was not a huge amount of work, but I imagine more work then some people would want to do, and you can understand why DAZ chose not to mark the products as DS compatible.
Having said this I imagine the bulk of their Poser only products should work just fine in DS with just some shader tweaks needed as stated above by others. I also have one of their trains, and with this I just needed to change the shaders (although this model had very few textures in it).
Pm me links to the actual product pages, and I'll see what can be done :)
(I should point out that I'm not PART of Vanishing Point and don't speak for them. I'm working WITH them as a co-vendor. Just so no one misconstrues anything I say as coming from them.)
That Ambulance is one of the first things Ievrr bought from VP and is still a super niche filler. Looking forward to the updated version.

I looked through the items listed and one of them has an issue, the picture for this https://www.daz3d.com/apache-ah-64-helicopter-for-poser is not a helecopter, let alone an apache.
Update existing products, or create separate ones? They have individual items for different software platforms (one for Vue, one for 3DS-Max, one for Poser, etc). I could muddle my way through in D|S with a semi-functional Poser file, but I would be peeved if a separate D|S version came out later, and not at these prices.
Oh yeah. I'll just shell out the mega-bucks for Studio Max so I can convert them.
Just the lead picture.
well I'd expect it would not be at these prices
these heavily discounted you do the work
is like the many updated PC+ products you can buy for iray but everyone is getting these cheap as is.
So your choice.
Yeah the first one, which is probably the most important one for a product you are trying to sell.
Aye we noticed that and did report it.
And BTW I don't know about working in DS but they do work in Bryce, as proved by the Blossom Hill Mill shown in this image I mirroed it in Bryce, as I wanted the water on the side that shows.
Looking at Vanishing Point's site, there's a few Daz Studio items there that I'm not seeing here (The Dodge Viper, Sci Fi Truck, Volkswagen Beetle, Retro Racer, Zerius spaceship, etc.). It'd be nice to have those here, since VP now has a presence here.
Not sure why we have the Poser version of the Dodge Caravan here, but not the Daz version. Maybe the Daz versions are in the process of being validated?
The P-38 interests me, we used to have P-40 here on Daz but it's gone now so another one of those would be nice, P-51. And of course other prominent WWII aircraft (spitfire, hurricane, me-109, etc.).
Interestingly, there's a cockpit for the XB-70 Valkyrie at VP, but not the rest of the plane. Yeah, North American only made two of those, but a plane model would be nice nonetheless.
I'm sure that there would be a fair amount of interest in more of the sci fi sets (assuming it isn't too much work to convert them from iClone). Not sure why the Daz version of the Sci Fi Airlock isn't over here already (validation?).
The Retro Motel could be fun too, although it looks like we have a few of those here already.
The L-39 Albatross was a nice surprise to see in the sale here. It features prominently in the jet category of the yearly Reno Air Races, along with the Delfin (not seeing a Delfin at VP). There's also a guy that flew a De Havilland Vampire at the Air Races a few years back (not seeing one of those at VP), but the Albatrosses/Delfins are bettter suited to that race. FYI, the jet portion of the Reno Air Races requires a wing sweep of not more than 15 degrees, which is why you don't see say F-4's in that race. Not that anyone would want to build a visual story around the air races or anything...
The P-51's effectively own the Unlimited categaory at the Reno air races, of course... someone raced a P-38 for a few years, but it was outclassed by other aircraft. The Unlimited roster has been getting smaller and smaller each year...
But I digress. Lots of stuff at VP I'd love to see here, I can't pick just one...
I'm very wary of obtaining a product if it doesn't have 'Daz Studio' in the compatibility information section. It makes me think it hasn't been tested in it, which, in turn, makes it difficult to know if the textures would look right from all angles.
I bought an aircraft off Renderosity, which wasn't cheap several months back. I spent half a day trying to get it to load correctly. It also said it was DS4 compatible. It wasn't VP, but I've stayed away from their store since. No reason to buy content and have to get a case of nerves from it.
Daz3d content is better all around and easier to use ( IMO). I buy content to save time, but alas I have also had to learn more and mroe editing.
Anyway, I will pass on this sale. Nothing against VP meant by this. I will wait for dedicated Daz3d studio content packs.
Many people forget about Bryce and that it can read .3ds & .lwo natively
But as a Vue, Poser and DS user, I don't mind having them here as well.......
Any chance of obama being done for studio, and maybe a trump figure for poser and daz studio :)
They'll be new products. That's why I mentioned them :).
(I am hoping I'll offer enough extras options that current owners would be willing to buy the new versions, but the value of that will be up to them :) )
Daz moves in mysterious ways.
Not always easy to check either. I have Blossum Hill Mill in some old Poser Content I installed in 2008,; but I can't fnd the installation files or a purchase record anywhere. Here it is rendered in Iray out of the box (no tweaking)
That is beautiful in Bryce.
Are we able to convert from 3DS or LWO to DS in Bryce then?
Confusing to some but noted.
Greentoken is a free online service that can convert them to obj files which can be imported into DS.
