Just wanted everyone know that the release of the JeanZ Skirt for Genesis 3 Female is imminent!

First a couple of things about the previous version, JeanZ Skirt for Genesis and Genesis 2.  The new version has new UV mapping on the skirt.  There is a free update to allow the older skirt to use textures based on the new mapping.  It includes the new UV's plus a preset to apply the UV's after you have applied a new texture preset to it.  Second if you have already purchased the previous version you should see an additional discount!

Now onto my latest release of  the JeanZ Skirt for Genesis 3 Female.  There are a large number of improvements in addition to the conversion to the Genesis 3 Female.  In no particular order:

  • New - UV mapping on the skirt which allows higher resolution textures and reduced distortion.
  • Support of legacy skirt textures.  Just apply a preset to switch to the old UV mapping.
  • Still compatiable with third party textures though the materials on the buttons on the blouse may have to be applyed manually
  • Older textures have been updated to Iray support.
  • New - three denim skirt textures in both 3delight and Iray.
  • New - plain textures for the blouse with sheer and shimmer options (last two are Iray only).
  • Buttons on the blouse are now rigid followers which means no distortion and easier adjustment when posing.
  • New -  HD morph wrinkles on both the blouse and skirt which can be indepentently utilized to look better with different poses.
  • New - RealFit HD morphs for Genesis 3 Female to be used with the skirt.
  • New - A bunch of new open morphs on the blouse and skirt!

Cheers!

Instant purchase with G2 discount - looking very much forward. And love those "love handles" morphs.

Hey, they are some of my favorite handles!   laugh   However there are some just soft hip morphs too.

I have the old version so am looking forward to this. One comment: I never use the belt (on any products) because of buckle distortion. I'm really hoping you might have found a way to make the buckle (and buttons) rigid.

There are a couple of ways to handle this but each has it's draw backs, so currently it is still a normal part of the skirt. However I am willing to take another look at it.

I can always hide the belt (you usually have an option for that) but some of the buttons will need to show. Sometimes there are options to make them smaller - maybe that's possible with this set?

i'm really loving those 'real fit' morphs, that kinda indent the skin. That is just fabulous!!!! I think this may be an instant buy simply for that reason! (although i love the look of the blouse and the add ons for it)

Ha! apparently I own the G2 version.

Weird, don't ever remember using it; then ago, that happens a lot.

I do have presets for hiding the belt.  Here are the following skirt morphs that might be of interest:

    • All Buttons In
    • But Fly Out
    • But Fly Small
    • Button Small (the upper most button)

Glad you like them, I have more stuff planned so stay tuned cool

What?  This should be one of your most used items wink  j/k  I have a few of those on my hard drive too.  We just need to do more renders.  Maybe have a contest, using stuff we haven't used in awhile?

    Cheers!

A question on IRay materials. I couldn't find the skirt texture with the frayed hem until I looked in the "Legacy" Iray materials. I was under the impression that Legacy Iray was for use with DS 4.8 while 4.9 uses the non-legacy materials. Is there a different meaning to the word Legacy here?

Legacy just means these textures are based on the ones from the JeanZ for Genesis.  Nothing to do with the Iray version.  Guess I should have chosen a different name :(

OK - I thought it might be that. I've noticed a few other things too. I don't seem to be able to hide the fly buttons at all. Even if I use the slider for All Buttons In ... they just appear to move through the cloth to the inside, which makes it difficult to use the Open morphs.

Ok - solved that by making the opacity for button fly zero.

Yes, All Button In just moves them in and doesn't work for the open morphs so you do have to set opacity to zero in this case.  Hope it works out for you!

Thanks. Yes - I recall now having to do that with the old JeanZ.

I'm wondering whether you can do anything about the front/back seam stretching? I know you have added adjustments for that but they don't work with smaller figure such as the Growing Up morphs from Zev0. Sorry to be a bother but I'm trying out as many options as I can think of while I have the skirt loaded. I' haven't tried a big lady yet but will do so later.

I did try extending the parametrers for the anti-stretch adjustments but the cloth started to distort past 100%.

The stretching you are talking about is due to the auto-fit in DS?  I hand built the morphs for a number of the figures standard figures hence the reason they don't stretch.  I don't have the ZevO morphs plus there are so many that it is just not practical to try and support them all.  The anti-stretch morphs are really designed as a helper for when spreading the legs apart.

You could use a deformer in DS to adjust the middle.  The other option is to remove the details in the middle like the stetching so it is not so obvious like ForbiddenWhisper's did in her add-on set.  If you want some textures without the middle seam let me know and I will see what I can do about an update.

BTW I posted a free texture set on my site.

No problem - I'll fix it in Blender. I usually end up doing that with almost all the clothing items I buy anyway. I use a lot of odd-shaped characters because I never stick with the store defaults.

Thanks for the freebie - I'll check it out.

EDIT: Tried to fix the seams in Blender - I couldn't. It tells me that the topology has changed (but I use the same method I do for all other fixes). Anyhow, I then tried a D-Former and that doesn't work either - the cloth either side of the seam moves but not the stretched seam itself. I give up - I don't have enough knowledge to know what's wrong.

Perhaps your idea of the textures without seams is best for my purposes.

What problems are you having? Can you share a render?  I tried using the skirt on a 'Growing Up' figure and it seemed to work fine.

I'd have to see how it's failing, but one of the solutions I've often used is Soften in Hexagon for fixing clothing deformations and texture smearing caused by adapting to kid-figures.

Ha - Hexagon is another one that I crash in minutes laugh ..

As for what is happening with the skirt - you can see it in my render above. The centre seam from the fly to the hem is stretched wide. This only happens on non-standard characters - usually petite or heavy - but it happens both back and front. It looks much worse when viewed front-on.

Seems to be a general problem with scaled down G3 characters. I've noticed it with 3DUs Haley and Skyler, when using other pants than those that are included with them. Some samples:

Did you render your female with a flat booty on purpose? How will it do with a JLo booty?

  • marblemarble Posts: 7,500

Sorry, but I don't remember this being such an issue with Genesis and G2F. I have the G3 JeanZ (pants) too and have now found the same problem with the seams although not so bad on males and the morph for the back seam is more effective.

    Greetings,

So with Skyler and others, I've often found that I need to take the outfits into Hexagon to tweak them, because the polygons move around a good bit, mostly in the chests.  A classic example of this is a t-shirt with horizontal lines across it, that turns into an absolute mess when you put it on Skyler.  Another was a shirt with a heart that turned into an abstract drawing.  I haven't had as much trouble with pants or skirts, except the waistline tends to go wavy.

Anyway, I took the JeanZ Skirt into Hexagon, and about 30 seconds later had this:

Thanks to the Hexagon bridge, it's just a matter of sending it to Hexagon, rotating it a little bit so you can see the front, pulling up the Soften tool (under UV & Paint) and running it over the seam-line under the zipper.  You can even see the polygons being out of joint, and when you 'soften' them, they flow back together quite nicely.

It's not perfect, but that's because I didn't spend much time on it...  I know it's not something that you necessarily might want to do, but it's one of the smaller prices we pay for having an infinite number of morphs for the underlying characters.  Clothes pretty much can't perfectly fit everything.  (It's also possible using something like VWD for dynamics might also help the textures unstretch, but I haven't tried yet...)

Hope that helps; I think I can do a video walkthrough if it'd help.

    --  Morgan

p.s. As for G2F it's got the same problem; mostly with t-shirts, again, because the chest area gets so deeply changed.

Thanks for going to that effort, Morgan. Much appreciated.

I have Hexagon but have never got into it because of the constant crashing (yes - my jinx is at work again). I'll try again but I'm not sure why I had problems with Blender doing essentially the same thing.

Any hints on how to stop Hexagon crashing would be appreciated.
