Rightyo, I'll get on it. From a quick test with different light set-ups, it's the spec maps making them super bright - they blend in properly with different spec maps (from a hairless chest) so no blinding white hairs.

I don't draw on chest hairs. That would be silly. They're from the references.

In future, I'll try to avoid body hair, full stop, so this doesn't happen.

Will update here when I do the fix, okay?

Oh, and I'll do bigger renders for you.

Great! That is the kind of PA attention that creates loyal customers!

Ok. Abel is a tricky one to fix. I tried a few things and it's a tedious task removing all those white hairs. I also tried inverting the white hairs, per hair, on the spec map and that made me want to kill myself. :p

A quick fix for you now, worked for me, was to raise the Glossy Roughness and lower the Top Coat Weight, but I daresay it'll depend on lighting.

At the end of the day, if these are recent purchases, you can always get them refunded. If you bought Abel a while ago, send me a private message and we'll work something out.

In the meantime, Dale will definitely get an update. Abel, I'll see what I can do...

  • no you can't have them back Saiyaness they're mine now and they're staying in my runtime don't want to upset my ladies

No, I don't want to return them either. The white lines are only a minor annoyance for the most part. I render more clothed characters than bare chested ones. I messed around with Abel and used the Photoshop healing brush on the texture maps, and that helped a lot. It [my Photoshop edit] is not the level of work you would sell, but it is OK for my personal use. I will also try your surface settings suggestions, because Abel's chest looks very shiny. I'm sure lighting has a big impact on it. I was just using an HDRI that I use all the time, no bright photometric lights or anything like that on the Abel renders.

If you can fix Dale, that will be good enough to satisfy me. Thanks.

Here is Abel after my Photoshop edits and your suggested surface changes. It is good enough for my use.

    Back to Dale...

Here is Dale doing construction. This is pure Dale with nothing else mixed in.

I'm loving Dale so far, although I agree that those long white hairs stand out a bit. (So thanks for the news of an update in the works).

Here I was just trying both my latest purchases.

Dale is definitely getting an update. I can't erase (well) the white hairs mixed in to his chest hair but those errant ones are fine. The same tricks with Abel might work. (Those pesky spec maps - I'll tackle that problem during production next time so it's not a problem later :p). I'll probably just Frankenstein a bare chest in. I've done it before. :p Thank you for being so understanding. I feel like Abel would require a whole new chest to fix his hairs. I'll just do better next time. :)

Ok, fix has been submitted to Daz. I'll let you know when it's live.

    Here's a render.

The first is just the fix, no material changes.

The second render I changed the following material settings because the specular was a little high in the previous render. It also lessens the white hair effect (and fake hair bump) look in general having a smoother surface.

Glossy Layered Weight 0.50 (from 1.00)

    Bump 1.00 (from 1.50)

And I probably raised Glossy Roughness and Top Coat Roughness to 0.70 but I can't check because I closed Daz Studio. :p Whoops!

    Again, everything depends on lighting.

Okay, back to work now. :p

Thank you, barbult - I'm liking your construction men too, doesn't Abel look different with that full head of dark hair?! (And that's some tattoo as well)

Thanks, MelanieL. Hair makes quite a difference, you are right. The tattoos are from Inked Vol 12. The tattoos have several issues which make them less than perfect. They started out with bad seam lines, which the vendor improved with an update. They only work on G3M Base UV (not any of the Daz Original characters, like Lee, Gianni, etc.) They have no gens material and don't blend with that area at all, so tattooed nudes are out. There is a whole discussion over in Novica's thread.

I like your construction dudes, Barbult! Nicely done.

    Thanks, Serene Night.

I see an update for Dale in the DIM, but I use Daz connect and there is no update there. sad @Saiyaness, it you are still following this thread, can you ask Daz why the update for Dale was not made available in Daz Connect, please?

I'm posting this here because I posted this on facebook and even another 3D artist had to ask if the hands were a photo or a render. As soon as I got this idea I knew I wanted to use Dale because the skin has so much detail and I needed that for this close up. So this doesn't show all of Dale, but it really gives you a great example of how much detail went into every part of this character. Thanks for the great work @Salyaness

I loved that render when I saw it in another thread - and I wondered whose hands they were too. Thanks for the information, I shall have to go and scrutinize my Dale's hands to see if I can get them looking so real
