I'm disappointed in the hair products. I was hoping for more originality. These styles have been done before.

Thanks for checking his scaling, Allenart! =-)

    No problem :)

He reminds me a lot of Scott 6 in the promos, although he's achieved what I thought was the impossible task of making Scott 6 look handsome in comparison. I love Ivan and his 'I've seen a bit of life' look, but Dante's 'I've seen the back end of a tank as my face collided with it at speed' look is not for me and I'll be giving him a miss. He's more reminiscent of a carthorse than a warhorse. I mixed some younger shapes with $4.99 Edgar the other day to see if I could get him to lose his 'Waiter, this claret has gone orf' expression, and he came out looking surprisingly yummy, like a slightly older, tougher version of Paul Newman. Move over Dante, I think I've already found my hero :)

Not fully rendered but I wanted to add my take on Dante.

Here he is with some Darius dialed in

Dante with Gypsyangel's Makani for Kimo 7

    And Dante with Raiya's Awan

Ooh, love those combos, and that's a great one of Brett.

Here's another of FW Brett HD, with no facial hair (or anything else!) I used some red lights, which is why he looks a little sunburned. He reminds me of Scott 6 here. Both the add on characters are HD, but no HD add on for Dante yet. Not sure how different that will make them look in renders.

Hmmm...that chin is not commonplace and that render shows off his face uniqueness to good effect. Maybe I'll buy afterall. LOL, if only the add copy was always so easy to see the selling points of a new character.

One thing I notice right away is he is fairly hmmm. Blocky in shape. He has a rectangular face, rectangular torso, squarish back areas. He also fairly large. He easily dwarfs my other characters when I use them in the same scene, but it is an odd sort of size because although he is big in all the dimensional ways he isn't very buff.

I think his face shape is interesting but his eyes seem over-sized to me. A bit like basic male's eyes. They are set wide to the face, whcih looks a bit cartoony to me. They are also protruberant. His forehead is fairly short and so hair sits low which I find a bother.

The two extra skins included are quite nice. Noah has a nice Native Amercian look to me, with nicely shaped nose.

Hair Johnathan  looks a lot like Thomas hair to me. The other hair is a mix between Colin and that hair bundled with Leo.... Leandros.

He desperately needs less soft smooth looking skins. A character like this should have a weathered appearence or at least one middle-aged looking skin. but besides the main one Dante, his skins are fairly typical nothing unusual.

Yes, my first impression also was that he's more cartoony than realistic.

I think of him as a good combination morph, like his sister, Genevieve.

I don't think he's cartoony at all, well no more than any other 'DAZ realistic character'. I've played football and went to ag class with people big as or bigger than this virtual model and with that same sort of angular face and blocky body and they looked more cartoony than this character does in real life.

It's sort of funny hearing people say he's not buff because he's not 'cut' in body building palance. Doesn't look fat at all to me, unlike the gargantuan but only 'overweight' in BMI speak, football players I've known. Well, and normal people too, most big guys don't want to play football just like most blonde women don't want to become moviestars.

What? I thought all blonde women did want to become movie stars. Probably because I live in LA LOL. All brunettes and redheads do too...

Anyway, I ended up getting the bundle because it was like $5.00 with a $100 gift card and would have been free if I could afford a bigger one. If people have the money, they can really get some great deals. I calculated that if someone could afford to purchase the full $2,000 gift card, they would have gotten $488 in free products! I guess, like in business, you need money to make money...

I'm still not happy about the hairless textures and will have to use a different skin texture or even paint the hair on myself in Photoshop.  I still can't figure out why they don't create a version with body hair for people who prefer that...

Somebody needs to do a product of different body hair pattersn ans colors to be applied to an otherwise transparent geoshell. That way it could be used on anyof the figures, over their original textures. Without the poke-through you'd get from fiberhair.

I could probably do the texture as a png, in Photoshop but have no idea how to do a geoshell, transparent or otherwise... What about L.I.E (which I also don't know how to do or use,) could it be applied that way like a tattoo or make-up?

oh god, I can't stop laughing at this!!! thank you Astracadia, you made a crappy day so much better for me!!! laugh

......but Dante's 'I've seen the back end of a tank as my face collided with it at speed' look is not for me and I'll be giving him a miss..

That's actually what Jepe's Project Hairy 456 is. That said, I don't know if it works with Genesis 3, since it was designed for Genesis 2. The UVs would be an issue.

I don't think this guy is Genevieve's counterpart. That's definitely more Elijah where they're both very thin, French model-esque. I'm tempted to suggest that Dante is the counterpart to Arabella, but the themes between them are way too different. We should all keep in mind that characters like Arabella, Lilith, Lucian, Genevieve, Elijah, and now Dante are all clearly done by the same artist, so little details like eyes and that nasal crease are clearly just signature traits of said artist.

I felt He looks pretty good with oh my body hair applied.

True he isn't fat or cut so to speak but his absence of details just makes him look a bit doughish He needs some skin variance, hairs, moles, a tattoo or something to break up all the smoothness.

Here's one with Oh My Bodyhair. I also blended Dante with Saiyaness' Dale for a rougher look, and I changed the skin color with SIckleYield's Beautiful Skin. (I think it made too much gloss, but that can be corrected.)

67% Dante, 33% Dale, a few dial spins in the face and also for body mass/tone.

Yes, swim flippers are not posed the best, but nobody is forced to see the offending body parts... wink

Does oh my body hair poke through clothing?

Quick one of Dante before work in The Huntsman with just his default materials and morphs. He definitely looks experienced, like someone in their 40s who's been around the block. I don't think he looks like he got hit by a truck, LOL. His morphs are pretty good. Looks like someone who has worked physically most of their life and never set foot in a gym. They're not going to have the perfect sculpting of a body builder who spends hours working out in front of a mirror. The product page indicates that he's 6' 2" according to Measure Metrics. I'll put him next to a V7 or M7 tonight and see how he looks.

I've got two more of Brett to post later, with facial hair. I need to postwork the background. Couldn't figure out how to match Terradome 3 and the Roads and Rails add on. Was too tired to figure it out last night. Everything I've posted in this thread has had no postwork, just quick renders.

  • Clothes? People render with that stuff?

Haven't used that body hair much, but there seem to be some invisibility settings to block out parts.

yes, most fiber hair will, but there are adjustments for certain areas like groin so you can have a character where a swimsuit. You can also hide or not use certain hair on say the arms. It is many different pieces.

That's a good ideal but there are many different body hair and head hair patterns and no way for us customers to sort through and find the natural different patterns systematically to see if they exist in the DAZ Store. I've never seen so many bed head hair and buns on men ever.

And in addition to your ideal, DAZ 3D could design hair and clothing to, I think, such that when it collides with a surface such that the normals say it should be obscurred from vision that can either cull the hidden polygons so they aren't drawn and figure out the if a shirt is tucked in the the end shirt tail or parts of the shirt tail shouldn't be poking through so hide those. Same with fibre hair or regular hair sticking through hats, ears, shirts, and pants. Or maybe they can just adjust the shader in those locations with a transparent shader but others have said it still creates a coloration difference when you use transparency.

At any rate, DAZ 3D is in business of creating realistic models, not that those same concepts aren't needed for toon style models too, so we should expect that they are working on a solution.

I think Dante has a "classic" tough guy shape like a lot of the men in old Hollywood, ie Johnny Weissmuller, Victor Mature, Robert Mitchum, etc, who weren't necessarily fat or out of shape when they were younger, but who didn't work out with the same type of ferver and machinery we do today. The shape doesn't bother me...it's one more choice and choice is good ;).

He reminds me of the in shape, out of shape actors from the 50s ie  Robert  Mitchum featured on Family Guy

I put just Dante in the cart, no bundle on this one.  First thing I thought of when I saw him was a slightly better version of Scott (which I passed on).  But still, he's a bigger guy, but not well defined, like he has some body fat over his muscles.  And no beard/facial hair/body hair options???  Just a bare bones average skinned guy. I might even talk myself out of buying him altogether.  I don't do gladiator/roman renders so don't need those outfits, and think the 2 addon guys in the bundle are just 'soft eye candy' which I don't need.  And hello...again with the no hair.  Don't care for the included short hairstyle...looks thick and furry like a shag rug and worse up close. Only other things I have in my cart from the pack are the Idris hair, Havoc outfit and Ugly Dave outfit.  Even still, Dante is $14.15.  Thought he'd be cheaper since I have other 'new' stuff in the cart.  Still thinking him over.

FW Brett has facial hair, but I don't think Dante does. I don't remember seeing it in his options. I can do a render tonight with the Whiskers for G3M if you like. I have Mec4D's Unshaven for G2M that works well on G3M as well. I also have Jepe's Project Hairy and Redz' Oh My Body Hair. Haven't used either yet. Could take them for a spin on Dante.

I have all those too. I'll make some renders too later with hair so folks can see with hair n stuff ;).

If you're not opposed to postwork, you can also render two versions (one with fiberhair and one without) and then use your image editing software of choice to mask out the hair where it pokes through.
