Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
I would like to present to you a Shader Builder Tutorial for DAZ Studio 4.5. This is a beginner's tutorial, that is, this tutorial assumes you have little to no experience with the Builder and leads you through the process of creating, building and accessing a shader for DAZ using an exsisting shader language script. For the tutorial I have used Mike King's Gooch shader. The tutorial is in pdf format, Also included in the zip file are the preset files (in duf, dsa and sdl formats) of the created block. My small gift to those that have given to me. Hope it is informative. If there are issues please tell me. I too am new to this that is why there is minimal technogeek in the tutorial. Looking forward to seeing people create some cool shaders.

Great! The second most useful D|S 4 tutorial I have seen (the first was one who taught me how to make that new interface usable :-))!

Thank you. I thought my trials and troubles should be put to good use. Hopefully this is not so simple that it becomes a waste of time.

I haven't read it all but it's a very nice tutorial! I guess I can stop porting posts for the Shader Builder sticky from the old forum (besides the spherical camera shader doesn't work anymore in DS4).

Thank you. It is a start. Nothing to serious, but it might ease someone's frustation with the fact that documentation for this feature is very sparse indeed.

BlackFeather, Your welcome. Hope to see your results. I used the tutorial myself to get Stephen H Westin's velvet shader created. It worked! So I hope that you are successful too.

Great job on the velvet shader, it looks fantastic !
I'm just learning the basics of shader mixer/builder. Still a long way to go, it gets complicated quite fast. Your tutorial is a big help !

I have the file, not sure if it is ok to redistribute it though (downloaded it long time ago)... have to check

Ok, I checked the readme file and it's ok to put it up for download, I have put it at:

    http://rustandmagic.se/ShaderTutorial.zip

It will stay there until end of the month (2015-10-30) so grab it there if you need it, it's about 2 megs.

Ws anyone else able to download the script file and RIspec file that is listed at the beginning of the tutorial?  the links don't work for me

I am glad you are interested in playiing with the Shader Builder but do realize that I pulled the tutorial down for a reason. You can however, find the information that the tutorial is referencing with a little work.

I googled the RISpec 3.2 manual and found the document here:

    https://renderman.pixar.com/products/rispec/rispec_pdf/RISpec3_2.pdf

I used the wayback machine to find the link to Mike King's script file here:
