    Yet another DA here

I first registered my username in 1990something (I think this was before Win98 came out) when I was added to my parent's AOL account.

Me and my brother were big into Warhammer and he always played chaos forces and ended up with the tag-line "Chaos is bliss". When I was trying to think of a "cool" username for my AOL account and chaoticbliss came to mind. Unfortunately it was too long, limit was 8 characters. So after much fenagling I whittled it down to kaotkbliss and have used it any time I've registred somewhere online ever since.

When I first started here, for some reason I couldn't get any of my first choices for my username, so I used Lordvicore... That was based on what MicroCenter butchered my name into on their sale flyers..."lrdvicor or current resident"... lrdvicor sounded like Lord Vicore... a good persona for a misunderstood evil overlord, so that was what I went with.

I kept that for a few years and when the forum software was capable of not exploding if I changed usernames, I changed it to McGyver to match my other usernames at ShareCG and elsewhere.

McGyver is pretty unimaginative, as it's supposed to be a reference to one of my nicknames "MacGyver" because I've been known to cobble contraptions out of junk and fix stuff with whatever is at hand... In case anyone is too young or cultured to know... MacGyver was an American TV show from the 80s where Richard Dean Anderson played a crusading good guy former secret agent who was capable of building elaborate devices and contraptions with bubble gum, discarded toenail clippings, paper clips and squirrel fur... Or something like that... I never really watched more than two episodes, but I kept getting that nickname and used to hate it until about 2002, when a friend got me to watch two episodes and I realized it wasn't a dig, but more of a compliment, so I started using it as a username.

My name comes from my gamer tag when I played Call of Duty. I was called ZeVolf, pronounced "the wolf" but spelt how the germans say it. Later, because I was a nerd I changed the spelling to Zev01f because leet is cool!. Then when I became a PA, I was too lazy to think of a new name so I just changed my name to Zev0. Most people just call me Zev or Z. Basically open to interpretation. Means absolutely nothing lol. In a nutshell, it is half my gamer tag lol. But it grew on me and it stuck. There were time I thought of changing it but people seem to like my pointless Identity.

  • I'm just a Dazaholic, but I've been using the name Morana as my internet personality since we were using dial up to enter chat rooms.  I had a liking for winter-related and lesser known goddesses way back when (when encyclopedias still came in book form).  The name Morana just stuck, and when I started encountering other people using it, I added Lady where necessary.  That's why I'm Lady Morana on DA.

I've been thinking for a couple of years now about rebranding myself to something cooler (the Lady title frankly embarrasses me), but when I've been going by this name for decades, it's hard to let go.

  • well, my nickname comes from my name and passion for graphics, simple like that.

Wow! Such a pleasant surprise to discover how many people, PAs and DAs alike(!), have already participated in this thread. Some of you may be aware of that annoying Hurricane/Tropical Storm named Hermine that has been making waves and wreaking havoc in the southeast of the US. Well, although we were thankfully spared the property damage that some have unfortunately suffered, the shifting weather fronts brought with them a massive migraine for me today and I've been mostly offline since I started the thread. Reading your amusing and often poignant username origin stories was better than any Imitrex injection, lol.

I'm thrilled to see how many PAs took the time to reply...I've been mostly lurking on the forums for the past nine months since discovering the wonderful world of Daz, and based on how prolific some of you 'holics are here, I almost feel as though we've met already. I'm glad that my thread suggestion has been met with such a favorable reaction. I can't say I'm entirely surprised, though, as I'm active in a variety of online communities (mainly photography and retouching, which is my present occupation) and the Daz community is certainly one of the friendliest, least ego-driven communities I've experienced.

Clearly nothing fancy about my username...just my initials. I suppose it was a lost opportunity to create a really memorable and cool username, but as I've still yet to share any of my own 3D rendered WIPs, the introvert in me couldn't imagine entering the fray with a wild username upon first joining.

Thank you again to all of you talented artists and 'holics.

"Werewolves of London" always came to my mind seeing it thinking of Warren Zevon which is ironic given your wolf origins of it!

Ha! I'd thought of that too!

Z/Zev/Zev0, I love that your username here isn't even the complete name and until now that mostly just your gaming community would know the full name.

    Mine...

Well, growing up I was awkward.  Seriously.  I am the only person who's been able to fall between two buildings half-way (think splits) and get stuck that way for a good hour before getting help and getting out (I was 13).  I tried to cook a frozen TV dinner on an electric stovetop and didn't know it was on.  I put my hand onto the burner and had to use a spatula to get it off-I was 6.  I've fallen ten feet out of a tree onto the paved road under the branch I was on at 9 and tore almost all of the tendons in my right ankle.  The old-fashioned 'merry go rounds' in elementary school-I was on one and ended up getting flung off of it onto the surrounding cement (go the school for thinking that was a good idea) and ripped up my face, broke my front tooth in half ..again at the age of 9.  I tried jumping off of a swing at 11, changed my mind and tried to hang on and ended up with a compound break that had my right arm in the shape of V from elbow to wrist. Broke my tooth again after getting it fixed at 11.  Broke it again at 13 after getting it fixed.. again.  My father said Darwin would have loved me because I'd probably prove his theory with all of the mishaps I've had before I hit 14 and I was "lucky to be breathing" by that point.

    Viola.  Moniker. ;)

    ...excellent story.

I wish I had a cool story for mine. I'm just a fan of artistic makeup. :) I used to want to be a makeup artist for Hollywood - doing movies and stuff (have you seen the celebrity before and after makeup shots? No one can say that makeup isn't an artform! lol). But instead I fell into comic book art and commission art.

I couldn't be happier with my life choices though - comic art and commission art is awesome and I get to work from home. It doesn't pay much, but at least I enjoy what I do - which is worth more to me then bringing in more money but grinding away at a job I hate. I know a lot of people aren't able to do that though, so I realize I'm pretty blessed to be able to. I'm thankful that I can, and really wish everyone was able to do what they love for a living.

...nothing wrong with a simple background if it reflects something you like, crikey I ended up using an RPG character because I couldn't think of anything else.

haha I really liked your story. As nerd it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. :) I used to belong to a group that got together once a week to RPG. We even had a LARP game going for a while. lol *but, shhh don't tell anyone - there are a few people left who are under the mistaken impression that I'm not a total geek* :P

  • Mine is a derivative of my real alias of Direwrath, which is the name I use here and pretty much everywhere else.  It started off as the name of a favorite original character's dagger that I made up in the early 90's. Well one time I was wanting to join a site called LavenderEyes, which was a fan forum for the drow elf Drizzt, and the only nickname that came to mind was direwrath. From that point on it became my internet alias.

The only problem I run into with having that as my name is that people tend to think that I'm a dude. ;)  Or that I'm goth or emo or something.

....I still do and my "Bushido cowgirl" is still slinging her six guns and swinging her Katana. The nice part about RPGs is characters don't age anywhere near as fast as the players do, part of the reason I use the name, gotta keep thinking young at my age (besides, if I used my other longstanding character's name [Leela], everyone would think I had one eye, purple hair, and worked for an interstellar delivery service).

About 21 years ago I had started playing a game and I needed a name for my second character. I wanted something that was not ordinary but was easy to spell. And since I am lazy I started looking in the book (Shadow Moon, a continuation of the Willow story) I had just started. I ended up picking Khory. When I started playing a different game several years later I was playing a Khory there as well. A friend and I started to play with the 3d and eventually we quit the game and started doing 3d full time.

Well, since you asked, I've shared this story before. I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. The Endless are Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. I've always like the name Destiny. I've met a few girls who happen to have been fortunate enough to be named Destiny by their parents, and I've been jealous of each and every one of them. To use some variation of Destiny for my forum name when I joined here made sense. In the comics, you get to Destiny's realm by entering a labyrinthe. I confess, at the time, I was not sure how to spell labyrinthe, so I needed something easier. From the story arc Brief Lives, chapter 7, page 7, Dream and Delirium are going to visit Destiny. "This is not Earth. This is not now. This is Destiny's garden, that is a place to itself, and exists in its own time." "The garden of Destiny. Look behind you: shadow-plays of memory are forever being enacted, on paths you walked too long ago."  My avatar is inspired by Death, who dresses very much like I did in college, down to the black hair and giant ankh necklace. So there you have it. Mystery solved.

THAT is a cool origin story! Thanks for sharing it (again) and I hope you and your partner-in-crime (InaneGlory, right?) both have a great response to your PA sales.

    Thanks for that. Good thread.

This has been a most interesting thread - thank you for starting it, pds!

From the little I know from various conversations and things you've written on other threads, I pretty much guessed that was what your name referred to.  Glad to know I wasn't far off the mark.  :)  I think it's a cool name, too.

I really thought I was the most accident prone person on the Earth.  I'm happy to see that I'm actually not. ;)  You have got me beat by a bit when it comes to self induced accidents.  I do have to say that it is nice to know that I'm not the only one out there like this.

I've told this story a few times before, so apologies if you've heard it. A family friend started calling me "sultan" because at the time, I was watching the movie "The Great White Hype" a lot and Samuel L. Jackson's character in that movie is called "Sultan". Around the same time, we had a heavy snowstorm and I made a big snowman (my first) with a Japanese friend who was staying with us. When I first joined Renderosity in 1999, I needed to come up with a username on the spot and after about fifteen minutes of racking my brain, I came up with "SnowSultan". And that's basically it.   :)

I like Darwin's story, thanks for sharing that.   ;)

My nickname has always been "TopCat", a teacher gave it to me and it stuck. She said I reminded her of the cartoon character. (After she retired she told me it was because I was a scruffy little schemer with a good heart). Anyway, I was working as a bouncer in a rough bar when... um, nevermind. One of the uninvolved drunks said, "Wow, 'Cat, you're a real d**k!" at which time a little blonde drunk girl yelled out, "He's a Petercat!". When I needed an online name, it just seemed right...

Wonder if this will get past the moderators.

Novica is based on an Arabian I owned, Nova.  His registered name (I didn't give it to him) was Cassanova. And he sure was a love!  I'll never change my avatar,  when I shot that image he had just finished nickering to me as I walked up. It was about 105 degrees heat index and he was enjoying his high velocity fan that I bought for his stall (which at that stables, he could go in and out of his stall from his pasture, and was smart enough to stay in his stall under the fan all day. I bought him fresh green hay so he could stay in during the day, and go out to the pasture late evenings.)  He came to the window when I called- I love that shot!

TangoAlpha is just my initials in the phonetic alphabet (alpha bravo charlie delta . . .). Comes from back when I had a pilot licence (I know, whiskey tango foxtrot, right? surprise) I also use it as my publishing imprint.

"Ug" on my left here <-- is one of the first things I ever drew, at the age of "low single digits". Damn character keeps following me around!

In the '90's when I first started my website, if there are any anglers you may have come across it, this was the name I came up with so I just use it on all the forums I join. I don't remember when I first started 3D art, may have been on an Amiga in the late '80's. I swapped to Windows in the late '90's when the Amiga OS started failing and it was sold off. I built my first Windows PC in the tower that the Amiga had been shoe horned into and it is in its 4th or 5th incarnation. I got Carrara in 2004 and joined DAZ in 2006 so I at least have been using them since then although it is only in the last few years that I have been using DAZ Studio and Bryce, which I also got a long time ago, a lot more :)

Hmmm... now I feel so unimaginative. LOL.

I use 'maclean' (pronounced maclayne) because it's my middle name. Wow!! Shock Horror!! How weird is that? But it's nothing new. I used maclean for many years when I was a photographer, so it's just a continuation.

Btw, for anyone who cares about historical trivia, I started with DAZ in June 2001 and I was the 12th PA to sign up! LOL. There were no forums, no DAZ Studio, and Poser 4 was state of the art software.

You name always impled something of that story to me (probably I once was a biologist) and somehow always loved the implication, now that I know about it I love it even more!

My own name is not as fancy, when my daughter first learned reading and writing (and, as myself, had a great love for fairies) she used to place little letters in the garden to the fairies. So I collected her letters, wrote her back and hid my letters at the same place and they were signed with Linwelly. Somehow that name stuck as the creative persona and when I needed a username in the world of creative people (in this case as a dazaholic) I chose it, and I was lucky it was free for dA as well.
