Question... if on a limited budget, which of the addons are "most necessary" or have the largest range of usefulness. I'm a bit confused by morphs and what they actually do (add new ways to add features to the land..?)
Pretty Please, my favoureite ever Skies for TD2 are the 'Watchful Skies V1 & V2' sets. Please tell me they're going to be appearing for TD3 in the not too distant future. :-)

damn, that is impressive.
I'm kinda curious; I've been resisting stuff as PA sale was coming, and I'm glad I did, but wondering how essential they are.
If you can't get much, I would start with the Pro Skies pack and the Pro morphs pack. Pro morphs Vol. 1 says, '12 terrain morphs for the AZone and 8 morphs for the BZone'. That's a great start. That seems to give more bang for the buck. Oh, and reading the Pro Skies pack, that will work without TD3, too. Cool!
You should probably throw in the Rocky Shaders pack, too.
This is the problem I'm having... Pro Skies works without TD3 so great those add skies variety and more things and nice, then the pro morph pack adds mountains or whatever but then so does the wounded land pack and then maybe there's this pack and and and -budget explodes-
Yeah, it would be SO nice to be able to afford everything! But, I'm going to have to prioritize. Not my greatest skill!
Indeed.
Normally I'm good at it, but this is just awesome.
Don't forget the FREE Post Apocolypitic Walking Home thingy if you buy Terradome 3!!! I almost forgot to put it in my cart cos i was drooling over the rest of the releases :D
Haven't checked out yet, just debating whether to nab any of the TD3 add ons or not. Can't wait to see renders!!!
I'll also be curious about people's comp specs and whether they struggled or not with it.
Same here, I'm not inclined to add the Proskies as I do have HDRIs and skies that I could use, at the moment I've got the base, the Pro Morphs, the Terra Shades Vol 1 Rocky and the Monumental and of course the freebie vehicle thingy and really its a lot more than I can afford, especially as I have to buy a new school uniform this week for my son, and shoes and trainers.
I have no problems with purchasing it, since it is Iray only means no purchase from me, I was really looking forward to getting Terradome for Studio but alas it is Iray only which is a shame..
Some of the prop based add-ons for TerraDome2 can be made to work in TerraDome3, but even then, things like End Of The Line, is built to a specific morph. Yes, the props will work, but they wont be as exact to a morph as they are in TD2.
TerraDome2 morphs WILL NOT work at all on TerraDome3. They are two completely different geometries.
Materials are only usable in the program for which they were created. In both cases, the materials involve some complex shader magic by Traveler, which is not readable between DS and Poser and vice-versa.
With all that said....The geometries can be transferred between programs, by export/import as obj. Once you've imported to your program of choice, you can use the materials for that programs version of TerraDome. So if you import TerraDome2 obj's into DS, use the TD3 materials on them, and again vice versa for DS to Poser.
TerraDome3 does stuff in Iray that TerraDome2 doesn't do in FireFly, BUT, to be fair, TerraDome2 also does stuff that TerraDome3 doesn't Swings and roundabouts.
I've tested the cart; it seems if you just get TD3 and one other item, then pop back later, you still get the same discount; I just hope that that still applies once the initial purchase has been made; maybe Richard or someone could stop by and confirm it?
EDIT
It works it seems; I've just bought the TD3 and the shaders, and get the 50% on others when I added them to cart as a test.
I use Poser and DS, what are the pros and cons of each version? Thanks.
I probably should have been more specific when I said props. What I meant to say is that the other NON- TD props and stuff are what DS users should look at. There are some nice older RDNA stuff in the FG sale that isn't TD related. Sorry, if I confused anyone.
From looking at some of the Poser only TD products, it would be nice if there were a TD3 version for some of them in the future as they look really cool!
.
It is definately in my cart but I can't decide which other packs to get. Can't really afford this after buying Star 2 as well, but, well it is my birthday soon, so it's my present to myself.
@jakiblue regardings specs..
Andrew: 3.8GB hexcore AMD processor, 32GB Ram, 4GB GTX-960
Tracey, as above but 16GB RAM due to slight mobo differences.
We've both been rendering fine, even with 2 each of Azone and Bzone, which is a LOT of geometry. Obviously things slow down when adding in water and atmosphere as these are both PBR volume materials. But even then, render times are still comparable with other things in Iray so far.....but bear in mind we've only been using DS for six months, so we still have a lot to learn about using it and getting the best from it. :)
I'll second that...love Watchful skies and do hope we see them in iray:)
it's not so much render times (although none of my renders in iray go over an hour LOL so i'd be used to that), but more whether my comp would lag and groan and be slightly unresponsive, I was curious about. I have the same vid card as Andrew but 16gb ram like you, so I think I should be ok. :D Thank you!
Couldn't really afford it but it went in the cart along with the pro morphs and rocky terra shades. I almost missed the walker thingy but luckily I double checked. What can I say...I'm just weak and couldn't resist it!
Is there a Tutorial or User Guide for Terradome? Never used this before so would like a bit of a guide as to how to use it properly.
Just a question, has anyone noticed if using other HDRI skies (thinking about DimensionTheory's pack) has unwanted results? I mean, I am sure to eventually pick up the PRO-HDR-SKIES Vol_1, because, well, skies, but I am wondering if it is a must-buy-now purchase or an it-will-be-nice-to-have-this one. On the same vein... any clue when the Terra Luna III will be out? That one I'm sure to snap up.
Will TD3, work in Studio 4.8,??
I havent upgraded to 4.9 yet as I am awaiting the general release of the latest 4.9 beta.
Cheers,
S.K.
@Wonderland
TerraDome3: Larger environment by quite a bit. You've got a lot more room to play in, and much more geometry in that larger area. TD3 is much denser than TD2, meaning finer morphs can be pulled out of it. HDR skies give a very real look to your scenes lighting. Materials that adapt to the terrain they're on, blending two materials based on which way the geometry is facing. Because of the large area, you get a good sense of depth, and with the infinite sphere environment dome, you can create/scale/move instances of the geometry to create massively deep scenes.
TerraDome2: Obviously the biggest plus for TD2 is that having been around 18 months, it has a much wider selection of add-ons for customisation. Being a less dense mesh this one is kinder to system resources, but can only be rendered in FireFly, so no PBR. Lighting is maybe a touch easier, if only for the fact that it's a simpler concept in TD2. Materials also adapt to the terrain they're on, however, 4 materials can be blended, again dependent on direction of geometry faces. Poser has a different way of handling displacement, which allows for some pretty cool stuff, such as displaced grass in TerraNova1.
Once TerraDome3 has been out for a bit, and builds a similar level of add-ons to TerraDome2, I think it'll come to which program you prefer to render in. And like I said in an earlier comment, by import/export of obj's you can effectively use either TerraDome geometry in either DS or Poser. We'll get a video together showing this. :)
(Andrew) @Uthgard, it will be along soon - very soon. Can't be more precise at the moment I'm afraid, but it WILL be along, and in good order. :)
@HorusRa It does have a lot of geometry, Azone plus Bzone is 1.3 million polies. However DS seems to handle this massive geometry count really rather well. So well in fact, that I've been creating HD morphs for the Azone, which with one pass of sub div is around 2.7 million on it's own. Yes, they do load slower when first importing them, but once they're on the figure, they dial up just like any other morph.
@Knittingmommy ah, well it's Mondfday morning, and I'm still getting my caffeine levels up, Please forgive me a little slowness. :)
@Wilmap There is a User Guide, but, it's in the pack. This is why Tracey and I always make the user guides for our products available as free downloads, so people can see the product better before deciding.
On the subject of User Guides, all our TerraDome2 User guides can be downloaded for free from here --> http://www.mortemvetus.com/freestuff.php?type=3
In regards to how heavy it is...I have an i7 with 16gb RAM and the Mountain Lake preset took about 20 mins to render.
Edited to add I have a Nvidia Geforce 760 oc version
I'd say I literally can't wait but... well, it's not like I have much of a choice :)
ok that's excellent :D I have an i7, 16gb ram, Nvidia Gefore 960 4gb, so I'll be right :D
