How to transfer G3M Maps to G2M Figures
in The Commons
Hi guys! I got to transfer G3M Morphs in the G2M Figures thanks to the GenX Addon, but the problem it doesn't transfer Figures Maps too. And when I try to load a G3M Texture into a G2M Figure, it doesn't do it correctly. Do you know if there's a product in the Daz Store which transfers G3M Maps in the G1 or 2M Figures? Or could you tell me a procedure to do it in case there isn't a product?
Thanks guys! :)

I have not tried it yet but Mari noncommercial does Ptex so it should be possible with that
Could you give me the link of that?
No, there's no product available to convert Genesis 3 maps to previous figures.
jcade has a tutorial on how to convert textures from G2F to G3F via blender, a similar method can probably be used to convert from G3F/M to earlier figures.

Another method which doesn't have to use Blender? I don't have Blender, so I can't use this one

There's probably a way to do similar things with other programs but it's the only tutorial I know of. Blender is free though, so you could get it easily.
Thank you for the information guys, but before try these ones, I'd like to know if there is a easier method, because they look something complicated for me (I'm still a beginner). So, if there is a easier method please let me know. Thanks! :)
whatever happened to the DS map transfer utility?
did it kaput?
need a common UV option
So, another method guys?

This would give the common UV, but you'd have to correct the differences manually (shoulders, back of head, etc) as there are no geograft options to use G3M textures on G2M.
There is no easy way. The differences between the genesis 3 maps and older genesis ones is very different which makes it much harder.
Well, it seems I'll have to use G2M Maps then :(
Where can I request a product which transfers G3M Maps to G1 or 2M Figures for the Daz Store?
they know we want it.
hoping zevo or slosh working on it!!
our obewan kenobies, you're our only hope.
I hope so too. I hope they sell it soon, we really need a Map converter between Genesis figures.
Slosh would be a better candidate lol.
You could try asking Cayman Studios. They are the ones who created the product for geografting and modifying the UVs for G2 to G3. They have a thread here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/79141/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-commercial
That means you won't create it Zev0?
the best candidate would be Mallenlane since he modeled the figures
there is no easy way to do this stuff or it would have been done already
Oh! I didn't know it was too difficult. :(
I remember a similar product was created for V4/M4 to Genesis Figures a while ago. So, it can be created for G2 and G3 Figures too, can't it?
I have actually just started work on a UV conversion from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 2 Female, as there appears to be some demand for it. There will have to be new geografts and I have already come across a few issues which didn't exist for the Legacy UVs, but nothing insurmountable. So watch this space!
the UV (texture) layout was very similar between V4 and genesis, not the case with the new genesis 3 UV layout, it's very different. Considering that it seems many vendors get the most sales with newer figures, I doubt anyone will do a product to go backwards from genesis 3 to older figures, but you never know.
The problem is the edge flow on the new Genesis 3s is very different than on the old models where it is just not possible to cut the UV mapping in the same way.
Another option is to use procedural skin, like I have in my sig (free, though if you use it and like it, please donate). You'd want to tweak it a bit, though I'm working on a better version that should have more usable 'out of the box' presets.
There are obviously some big limitations to that approach, but it can work really well under a number of circumstances.
The short answer is no. Due to the extensive differences.
Work arounds, and that is what they are for converting G2 (etc) to G3 took a lot of time.
I can't ever see using procedural shaders for skin, but then again I am not a fan of them in general
considering your like of them and how you like unusual creatures, I bet you will love the new No Man's Sky game coming out. It uses procedural shaders for most of the game and all animal lifeforms are generated the same way, allowing for some unusual shapes.
Woohoo, good to know. I have some great GF2 characters i don't use much because of how good GF3 is, but would love to use the new GF3 iray textures on them.
Well, I'm not so much a fan of them as finding them another tool for the box. There are lots of situations where I vastly prefer mapped, traditional texturing. But then there are situations where I just don't have a preset texture.
And particularly at medium shots, where you need some detail but it doesn't have to hold up to close scrutiny but it's not so far off you can go with 'pink, tan, brown,' it can work nicely.
And yeah, very very much looking forward to that game.
