The new presets are fantastic, Slosh.  Great freakin' work. :) I'm doing a tester now on an expression and love how the hair is coming out. :)

Here is Lilyanne Hair with several color mixed layers. This is an old scene that I reworked with UHT2. The clothing shaders are from PD Iray Shader Kit 2.

Thank you, Will. Lilyanne Hair has nice realistic fly-aways, I think. I was pleased with the way UHT2 blended the colors. I think it goes convincingly well with her eyebrows.

I've been waiting for this :P  Fantastic, as always Barbult.  I hope you can see that I put as many of your suggestions in as I could.  You really helped me out on this, and I thank you :D

smileyyes I bought thus right away, of course, but it took me some time to get ramped up. I was playing with other new stuff I got around the same time and recovering from 3 weeks of foreign travel. I see lots of improvements and the videos are very very helpful.

Some great examples have been posted.

Here is one I came up with while messing around. I used 3 colors and two hair models (Paisley Hair and Leyton Hair). Be sure to zoom to full resolution!

    Inspired by Pathfinder witches...

I started with green fantasy hair and layered some gray, though I'm not sure it's noticeable. But this is Kione hair, old (it has A3 morphs), but really nifty and manipulatable. Being able to add finely tiled strands really brings it to life.

Will, if you want to layer something like gray over a color and it isn't coming out at defined as you want, just memorize which gray color you mixed and which mask you used and simply repeat it in Color Mixer.  Each successive layering will add more of the gray in the same area, making it more pronounced.  Of course, at some point you will reach a maximum coverage and it will no longer have an effect, but that's one way to do it.  I would probably have run the gray two or three times, each time using a different yet similar mask.  This way, you would get more of the gray, but it would then be spread out a bit, too.

Dustrider, I like the blend between Leyton and Paisley... I would never have guessed :)  The only thing I might have done differently is I would have tiled it something a bit higher (not sure what you tiled it at, though it looks to me like you might have left it at Tile 1).  So, maybe Tile 4 or 5?  I don't know, just my thoughts, but it looks great the way it is.

Hm, I'm getting an "Install Failed!" error in DIM with the new update. Tried to delete and re-download twice, same problem. Zip tests OK in WinRAR so it's not corrupted. Aynone else?

    Windows 10 Pro, DIM 1.1.0.64, DS 4.9.2.70 / 64.

I also noticed that the empty folders remain in Content Library after deleting the product in DIM, and I can't delete them. DIM/DS bug (possibly occuring when install fails)?

I wouldn't even attempt to tell you how to fix that, Taozen.  I'm definitely not versed on the workins of DIM or any of the computer techy stuff.  Best bet would be to submit a ticket to the help center, if someone else doesn't give you a solution in this thread before then.  As far as deleting the folders left behind, that happens to me sometimes, too, not just when dealing with Studio.  Sometimes I can't delete them until after I have rebooted my computer.  Possibly they stay in memory on your computer?  Which means your computer considers the folder open and therefore won't delete them.  I dunno.. once again, not that savvy :P

Lani Hair only has one surface, so it kind of limits what you can do. At least the UHT2 lets me add multiple layered colors.

Oh my god, Barb!  I am sharing my screen with some fellow PA friends and we are all just gushing over this image.   You are a master at hair, and a mighty fine renderer in general.  You have a knack for lighting and composition.  Thank you for sharing this here

I had the same probelm earlier today. I had the users guide open, and DIM couldn't overwite it and so it "failed". if you have any of the files or folders open, a DIM reinstall will fail.

Slosh, when I use the "Use Original Textures" preset in the Base Textures folder, if I use it on hair that has something in the Glossy Layered Weight and/or Glossy Color and/or Top Coat weight and color slots, it wipes out what's already there and replaces it with its own textures. Is it supposed to do that?

Yes, vwrangler... that was intentional.  I only intended the original Base Colors and Transparency and Displacement maps to be retained.  This way, the Utilities would have the desired effect (as well as many of the glossiness, bump, normal, etc. settings UHT2 has need the specific maps or else the values I put in might not react with the original maps in the right way)

Well solved now, thanks to DustRider's suggestion. BTW, for locked files/folders I recommend LockHunter, free and works great:

Wow. I think it's the first time I've seen a hair of this type that looks real.

Is it my memory that fails or has some of the scalp textures been removed in the update?

was wondering about tims pic too lol at first thought was female and thought oh oh tim gonna cop it for that then saw hairy navel

Funny, never thought about that - nipples are allowed as long as they're on a male. What if it's a trans-male with estrogene breasts? A real TOS teaser I guess... lol

There is not a scalp texture to match every single base color texture... so you might have been expecting that.  For example, there is no Raven Black scalp because there are already two other black scalps, etc.  :)

(I browsed through the topic, sorry if it had already been discussed and I missed it...)

What would be a reason to get UHT 1?

From what I read, getting just UHT2 would be enough. Is this correct?

Heh, I'd like to say there was a story, but it was mainly 'hrm, I should do another male figure. Hmm, the g2m hairs I have are limited and I've done them a billion times, what else have we got... oh hey, some of this old stuff I picked up recently. I should experiment with UHT2 more. I like black lustrous hair, let's try that...'

    Thanks. smiley

    Love the new renders, everybody!

I reckon I better download the update.

Absolutely right.  You do not need UHT1, but the settings are a bit different than what I did with UHT2, and the textures are different.  So, anyone who already has UHT1 just has more options to work with, especially since Color Mixer and the Utilites Presets will work just as well on UHT1 that has been applied to hair.
