I should have layered my blue a few more times to really get it where I wanted, but I was too excited to see the result.
It really is a lot of fun, and the more layers you add with different masks, the more like real hair it will look (don't forget tiling... very important especially on older hairs). Advanced users will know how to pick out specific sections of hair using the geometry editor and create a new material zone that can get it's own treatment, such as a long red streak tucked behind the ear, or three different colors in a braid, etc. Lot's of options
Is it my memory that fails or has some of the scalp textures been removed in the update?
There is not a scalp texture to match every single base color texture... so you might have been expecting that. For example, there is no Raven Black scalp because there are already two other black scalps, etc. :)
I noticed that in the first version, but after updating, there were even less, both base and scalp textures. But now I know what's wrong - it's the Fantasy add-on textures that disappeared. I deleted them when I deleted the main pack folders, believing they were empty, when I had the Install Failed problem.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the add-on but that didn't help - first after deleting and re-downloading it I got the textures back again. Guess it must have confused DIM that I deleted the folders instead of uninstalling.

OK, so do you actually have everything installed and working again? I hope so... if you don't, however, please be sure to submit a ticket... DIM and Connect are two things I cannot help you with, unfortunately.
Used some of the more fantasy colors on this one. This hair has a lot different material zones so it took a bit to get them all sorted but it was great to be able to do the hair with multiple color and the braids with just two that picked up one of the fantay colors in the hair. And I love the fact that I can thicken up the hair.

I am having so much fun playing with hair colours! On the attached image, I used Victoria 4 and an older SAV hair. SAV's hair takes to UHT2 very nicely from my limited testing on a couple of styles.

I like what you did to the braids :) Just out of curiousity, are you selecting multiple hair zones when applying the presets, including the Color Mixer and the Utilities? There is no need to do them one material at a time (not that I'm saying you did that, but I'm using your post as an opportunity to mention to everyone that you can select all materials, or just a few, and apply Color Mixer or any of the Utilities simultaneously).

That hair looks so soft! I bought a few SAV hairs to test UHT2 on recently, and although the textures looked good on the hair I bought, I think the styles I chose were not my taste, so I was ultimately unhappy with them. I will probably buy a few more and work with them. I had some nice results with Ali hair styles, some of which you can see in my promos. Your render does a really nice job of showing how soft and natural the hair can look in Iray. Thank you for sharing :)
Here is the re-render of the image I posted earlier with the tiles increased as per the recommendation by Slosh. The tiles on Leyton Hair are set to 3 and the tiles on Paisley Hair are set to 4. Definitely an improvement!! UTH(1) was fantastic, but the possibilities with UTH2 are endless, and will extend the useful life of just about any hair!!

It honestly makes me feel so good to hear feedback like this. So many times we make a product and worry that the person who has spent their precious dollars on will somehow be dissatisfied or feel let down by the product. I am happy beyond words that UHT2 is something people like as much as I do.
I think increasing the tiling on both hairs was a good move. It looks fantastic :) Leyton hair is a wonderful style from AprilYSH, and it really didn't need any help, but even with great hair, I think being able to mix your own custom, unique look keeps it fresh and really brings a personal touch to your renders. I wish we had "thumbs up" emojis in this forum, because I'd give you a whole row of them right now.

Yes I am selecting them all. Well all of the ones that I want to change to a particular color. Then selected the braid parts for the black and green.
Slosh, I will almost certainly be using UHT2 on every image I do with non-fibermesh hair in future.
Out of curiosity, what happens when you use it on fibermesh hair? I've had some nice-looking results using UHT1 on fibermesh. Haven't bought the two UHT2 sets yet, but they're on my wishlist for later.
The fact that I can now combine hair styles and they flow together seemlessly is fast becoming one of my favorite things about this. This is Crazy LocksHair and Suzanne hair. Used three different color/texture combos on them and I had a hard time telling which part of the hair belongs to which hairstyle.

Wow, UTH2 is great! I'm so glad I bought it. I've been using UTH1 a lot and I love it too. Anyway this render doesn't use any layers. I just plyed with the utilities first after watching the first three videos. This is silver gray hair with medium high translucency - I wanted to darken it. Tiling is five as I didn't want it too fine. (Hairline is not too great as I couldn't get it to quite fit Ivan in spite of much tweaking to the many temple adjustments.)
I should have layered my blue a few more times to really get it where I wanted, but I was too excited to see the result.

Yeah, I've tried it on a couple of really old hairs that Iray seemed to be allergic to and they turned out great. Still need some fiddling to get just right, but at least they're usable now.
I always forget about the geometry editor! I'll have to try that out the next time I can play.
If not, it's trivial to add: just put the bump map into displacement map (UHT2 Bump.tif, I think). I'd suggest setting it to 0 min, .1 max, and at least subd 3 (I usually use 4, anything more kills my machine).
Though always see if the non-displacement will work for you first. ;)

No, you didn't overlook a displacement option. If the hair already has displacement, UHT2 will keep it in place. Otherwise, I think the normal and bump maps are more than enough to get a realistic look. Why displace hair? You would have to bump the subdivision up significantly to see anything, and what exactly would you see? I didn't see the point in adding it to UHT2. That being said, if you want to add displacement, that is up to you. But, if you do, please share a render so I can see how it improves the look of the hair. If I like it, I might include it in an update

Displacement is inefficient in iray so it's not woth making any settings for it as it will just bloat render times and memory for renders which is at a premium for GPU rendering. Normal maps are the way to go in iray, not displacement.
I finally took a break from some projects and did some playing with UHT2. This is the first chance I've had to take a look at it since I bought it the first day of the sale! I think I have 3 or 4 layers on this hair. I think it turned out fairly well for a first effort. I think I'm going to have lots of fun with this. Great product and very easy to figure out. Although, I have to admit, the videos and the great documentation are a really nice bonus!
I have gotten such great results from the hair setups included that I haven't done a lot with the layering. ;) The only changes I make, typically, are tiling.
So, I used displacement here, though only a little bit, because Nell hair is REALLY old and smooth. There's none of those little flyaways and such that make new hair better. Hairline is a bit razor, too.
Having said that, and while I mostly bought the hair for toon-style stuff, I think it looks pretty decent with UHT2.
Oh my god, Barb! I am sharing my screen with some fellow PA friends and we are all just gushing over this image. You are a master at hair, and a mighty fine renderer in general. You have a knack for lighting and composition. Thank you for sharing this here
Wow,thank you! How will I live up to such high praise?
I'm woking on my first hair model mix. It is harder than I anticipated to get my selected hairs to blend well. I'm using Paisley (for the bangs) and Cailin. The textures work fine, but the strands interfere with each other.

Yes, it annoys me every time I buy a new Iray release that uses displacement for fine details. I think either the vendor is lazy and copying 3Delight settings, and/or not really knowledgeable about Iray rendering. I was pleased to see that UHT2 is using normal maps.

so like most products consider uht1 if you don't have it as an addon to uht2 and vice versa and can combine options
So much fun to just add little splashes of color!

Played with last night again- there's about four layers of color and one of the high shine presets for dark hair on this one.

I don't know, UV can be wonky.
I tend to just use Unshaven 2 for that, although I suppose I COULD still use UHT2, just all the strand stuff would probably not matter.

Working on it now. It's a very old hair so the surface of it is extremely smooth. I think it's more intended for cartoon renders.
Adding displacement helps break up some of the edges and the shadows a little more convincingly.
On more recent hair models it's overkill, I agree.
