    Thank you, Luci!

I grabbed it, and will adjust the image accordingly.

And I honestly believe I will complete this story before the deadline.  (Hope springs eternal, anyway!)

Totte - Nice story, great finish.

Luci45 - Love the doctor character. That last image, Mr. Man checking out the new pink model - next to what appears to be his pregnant wife. Oh my - bad boy.

Ken OBanion - Super start - poor Laurel... will her ghost rest in peace?

Chanteur-de-Vent - Great gotcha - prince charming duped by a dark rogue. Lovely reflections, first image.

Image Title: Who You Gonna Call (When the Call to the Ghostbusters Rolls to Voice-Mail)?
Stratton called his old college friend Velma (he knew she had always been into that supernatural s**t) who, in turn, called her new friends, Martin and Alexis.  They met at the steps to the old Cathedral, and immediately began to investigate.

It didn't take long to discover that the whole thing was a hoax; Martin and Stratton found the hologram projector hidden in a light fixture in the Ladies' Lounge, and Alexis and Velma found the perpetrator -- a local realtor, who had hoped to cash in on a pending real-estate deal....

The plan had been to promote the story of a vengeful spirit that was haunting the Cathedral, in order to drive down the value of the property, so that it could be snapped up on the cheap, and then re-sold to the developers of a new regional shopping mall.

Come in - said the spider to the fly.

Sue Lin couldn't explain her attraction to the stone mansion next door. It slipped into her dreams at night and crept about in the corners of her mind by day. One morning, she found herself knocking on the side door. The woman who answered seemed to expect her, welcoming her inside. "Brother Luther" cooed Sylvia, "this is Sue Lin our neighbor who has come to visit." His eyes met hers and an electric current passed between them. She felt compelled to explain, "I am new to this country. I have never been inside an American castle." She said, "All my family still live in China." He smiled, the glow flowing through her, making her blush. "Well then, have some wine and I will give you a tour. Although, it isn't really a castle but a replica built by an eccentric, which is proving to be quite the fixer upper. "

"Here is my work room. When I'm not renovating, I make figurines for table top fantasy/sci-fi games. This is a cat warrior." His voice was low and smooth, soothing. "But, you're not the fantasy type... are you? I'm thinking, romance novels... "Oh, she heard herself say, "Yes, do... do you believe in true love. Love at first sight?" His eyes met hers, making her heart beat fast against her chest. "Yes, I do. I have been waiting for you." Sue Lin's head spun, her knees gave way and as her vision filled with tiny black dots, she felt herself falling.

When she came to, she could feel him holding her close, she felt peace and surrender. They were surrounded by candles, "What place is this?" She whispered. His voice was gentle in her ear, "Why my sweet one, pure of heart, this is a shrine to you. This is where we become one forever... my love."

Not sure I'm going to be able to finish an entry (again) this month.  DS keeps crashing and I have no idea why.  The scene isn't particularly large.  It began happening when I updated the beta of DS4.9, which doesn't make much sense to me, because I thought they didn't share any files.  In any event. I'm halfway through setting the scene for part 2 of my story, which means I still need to finish it, render it, AND do the entirety of part 3... in less than 8 hours.  It has NOT been a good month.  *sigh*

Beta shouldn't interfere with the released version. Hmm... Do you have the latest Beta? It fixed a crashing problem for me. The earlier versions had incompatibility problems with certain NVIDIA driver versions if you had Iray draw setting set to interactive and had an HDRI in the environment of the Render Settings. There are a couple forums threads about it. The latest Beta fixed the crash issue, but seems to have a GPU memory leak in interactive mode.

Luci45 - Another great one - image #3, I like how they've all traded in their space suits for sports wear.

Ken OBanion - Ah, HA - a hoax! Wonderful render of the triumphant Scooby-Doo crew. Love the detail - dress with bloody handprint.

Gopherus - More fantastic Fun, "incurably criminal children" - LOL. While I'm looking forward to your third image... I have to say, you're making it really difficult for me to pick which one of yours I like best - love them all!

Hmm.  NVIDIA just told me I have a GPU driver waiting to be installed.  I'm going to see if that fixes it (and hopefully doesn't make it worse!)

    Thank you, purrkat.

I'd like to take credit for the 'detail', but it was one of the textures that came with the dress.  In fact, it was that texture that gave rise to the whole 'ghost story' idea in the first place!

I did have to export the dress into Poser as an .OBJ, so I could collapse it along the Z axis, in order to plausibly get it onto the coat-hanger.  (For some odd reason, there were no 'Scale' parameter dials in DAZ Studio; what's up with that!?)

EDIT: I hate typos!  They make me look..., less than flawless.  (I blame the English major in me!)

okay, i m back and the rendering is done

thanks Luci45, Chanteur-de-Vent, Purrkat for your comments.  It took days to get that song rhythm out of my head.

@ken#2a  A haunted bathroom!  the last place you d want to encounter a fright.  i also agree tha lighting is really good.

#2b  What mayhem!  and the guilty party walks away

#2c wait a plot twist.  that was a pretty good projector to fool so many people.  Martin and Alexis have returned.

#2d  Ah! the required tag line. . . now it s officially a scooby doo!!  Well done!

@Chanteur-de-Vent #1  Great use of depth of field!  The poor smuck loses the girl...no loss... and he s free to come back in a sequel.  Great story and images!

@Purrkat #2  Anne rice move over!  A gothic horror romance!  Well done!

@Luci #5  Ah! a graphic novel!  I think he made a good choice cutting a deal with the pirates and not getting cut himself.  Good one!

    The Artists

    Part 1: Home Studio

Eddie and Susie had recently set up house together, and more importantly set up a shared studio.
Eddie was an acclaimed Set Designer, whose work could be seen in many big productions on stage, TV and film. But he eschewed new-fangled technology like computer modelling, preferring hand-crafted physical models.
Susie was a talented Botanical Artist, whose work could be found in many galleries. She too was strictly old-school: paper, pencil and watercolour were her tools of choice.

Draw Items Used: Sophisticate Outfit for G3M, The Study Expansion Pack, The Cage, Making Faces for Aiko 5, Haunted Mansion Exp 1, Speed Render Stages
    Also Used:
Eddie - FWSA Edgar HD for M7, Matthew Hair
Susie - Summer for V5, Audrina Hair, Lazy Sunday outfit, Ballerina Assembly Kit shoes
Dream Home Media Room, The Desk Collection, Decorative Easel Set, R and R Time, Deco Redux
Eddie's Models (extras) - Haunted Mansion, The Study
Susie's Paintings - Collective3d Portrait Vignettes Contemporary 1 (frames), various Lisa's Botanicals plants
    Advanced Ambient and Advanced Spotlights

    Part 2: Eddie's Field Trip

Susie was keen to support Eddie in his work, so when he announced that he was going on a field trip to source some decor ideas she was happy to accompany him. His destination was a stately home converted to an upmarket hotel, so they both had a great time!

Draw Items Used: Sophisticate Outfit, Making Faces for A5, Affable for the Ballroom Exp 1, Dynamic 50s Cocktail for DS
    Also Used:
Eddie - FWSA Edgar, Matthew Hair
Susie - Summer for V5, Isla Hair, Scorching Black and Red (shoes - recoloured)
The Ballroom, Affable for the Ballroom, The Ballroom Exp 1, Decor Basics 2, A Curious Tea Eat Me, Wine Me
    Advanced Ambient and Advance Spotlights

    Part 3: Susie's Field Trip

When Susie announced her latest field trip, Eddie thought it only fair to accompany her. But he hadn't realised that it would be quite literally a field trip - and he was not an outdoor sort of person. Not with the hay fever. Nor the unmanly fear of biting insects.

Draw Items Used: Sophisticate Outfit, Predatron Common Nettles, Making Faces for Aiko 5, Speed Render Stages (skybox)
    Also Used:
Eddie - FWSA Edgar, Matthew Hair, clothing retextured with Cloth Shaders Vol 1 Gingham, Fun With Yarn Nifty Knitting Shaders and Aelflaed's Fancy Shaders
Susie - Summer for V5, Xylia Braids, Aussie Girl Outfit

    Title: All In The Family

    Part 2: LambsTo The Slaughter

I'm not entirely sure how this happened.  One moment, I was gleefully casting magic missile at my dear cousin and the next moment I… wasn't.

It isn't surprising that we got caught in the forbidden act of hurling spells at each other.  We were both feeling particularly enthusiastic this week and we might have accidentally started the garden on fire.  I don't know what the big deal is.  The house is made of solid granite, so it isn't like we could have done any REAL damage.

Our fathers, however, didn't see it that way.

Speaking of our fathers… Wanna know what’s worse than watching a pair of diametrically-opposed elves trying to argue politics over a plate of undercooked potatoes?  Watching those same diametrically-opposed elves trying to one-up each other in deciding the punishment for their respective wayward daughters.  Usually I think it's funny when Dad loses an argument with Uncle Gzarth.  Tonight?

    Not so much.

Which is why I'm here.  With Urm.  In the throne room of the Spider Queen. Asking for penance.

According to Gzarth, there's nothing like a good dose of ritualistic torture to really hammer home a lesson in discipline.  If this is how Uncle G regularly punishes his daughter, I'm beginning to see why Urm is so cranky all the time.  I could almost feel sorry for her, except that in NO universe would my own father have come up with a punishment this diabolical.  I'm therefore much too annoyed at my cousin and her stupid Underdark upbringing to feel much pity for anyone except myself.

The good news is that we aren't going to be summarily executed.  In fact, I think I saw a spark of approval in the Spider Queen's beady red eyes when we explained what we'd done "wrong."  The bad news, however, is that we're not entirely off the hook.  We're being sent on a quest.  To kill something.  And, while I don't know what a Grell is, the look on Urm's face strongly suggests that she does

Until now, my cousin and I had never agreed on a single thing in our lives.  However, I have a feeling that's all about to change because, if I'm not mistaken, neither of us has ANY desire to find the Grell's lair and slaughter it…

Try turning on Show Hidden Properties in the Parameters pane context menu. That should make your hidden scaling parameters show up.

I'm in the same boat.  Part 3 of this tale uses an old model with a low-res texture image.  In order to make it work without looking like a checkerboard, I've gotta up the texture compression threshold a LOT, and then it seems to take up too much memory for my GPU.  At CPU speeds, there's no way this is going to be done in 3 hours. Gah.

    thanks purrkat!

@Melanie #2  very upscale furnishings!  i notice that all the insects are knowingly heading straight for eddie. some people automatically attract them.  none seem to be heading for susie s bare legs not even the nettles. maybe he s been eating bananas and his skin smells of all that potassium.  but it is so good of him to volunteer to be bug bait.  LOL!  nice story and images!

@karibou #1b  love the color.  and the fear and contrition exuding from the girls.  i wonder if one of them could cast a pixelate spell on the offending texture to provide the backstory for it s visual demise?  or make the object a silouette?  keep going you re almost finished!

Just leave it low res. Better to finish than not finish!

    Thanks, Chanteur-de-Vent, purrkat, Gopherus
Ken OBanion LOL, nice story and ending. I love the gang standing around and the police lady carrying the evidence.
Chanteur-de-Vent Pull #1 Oh, the poor prince! Nice twist and very nice renders! Hehe
purrkat #2 Wicked little story, nicely done!
Gopherus #5 Another wild and crazy one. Funny story and poses. I love the expressions in the last one.
    MelanieL#2 Haha, poor Eddie!
Karibou #1B Beautiful render. I hope you get #3 done. BTW, you're narrative is a lot longer than the rules allow - should be 15 lines total for the whole story. This is posted on the entries page.
