Supposed to be 39º and stormy Sunday morning   Really want to cancel out on the session I am supposed to attend and just stay in.  In the area of town I need to go to, the sidewalks flood and become useless when it rains, so I have to walk in the street with cars often speeding by me for about 8 blocks (and in this area of town people tend to drive really stupid).

This is why I could never live in the burbs here.

IT rained here a few days ago and I didn't get to enjoy it :(

I always wanted to be a tram driver, you always know where you're going and when you get there you just drive right back :)

...I wouldn't want to do that where I live with all the clueless drivers who don't know their car has turn signals, self righteous cyclists who run stoplights and dart in and out of traffic, and pedestrians who text while crossing a street (often in mid block downtown).  Steel wheels on steel rails are not known for short stopping distances, especially when the vehicle you are piloting weighs 55 tonnes empty and is nearly a city block long.

Also, it doesn't pay much better than driving a bus, and you need seniority for the position.

Some adventures are purposely embarked upon...perhaps not knowing the outcome, but still, planned to some extent.  ("Let's go that way!")  Others happen to us, entirely unexpectedly.

Yeah that's the thing about tramlines and I guess rail lines for me, they look safe where everything else can be sooo unexpected and I guess fraught is a good word for it :)

...those are our newest tram cars, though each only has a single cab instead of one at each end. hence they have to be run as dual car sets. It does however leave more room for passenger seats. The older ones have a cab on each end of the car so they can be operated as single units.

Sadly, our bus and tram operators here no longer wear hats or blazers like they used to do, haven't for some time now.  I liked it when they did, made them seem more important. They still wear a uniform (sort of), but also are now required to wear those garish day glow high visibility vests when driving.  Always makes me feel like it's someone from the maintenance department who is at the wheel instead of an actual driver.

...I hear Houdini is a PITA to learn.

Houdini is a nightmareish mix of programming and art, you need to be a bit of an engineer to understand its procedural process but if you can get past that, it's insanely powerful.  Houdini artists ae hard to find, bt if ou want the best fluid dynamics/particle systems on the planet, you need Houdini.

It runs great on my quad-core i7 with the NVidia GTX850, glad I coughd up for the 4GB of VRAM... indecision

Monday, blech, ecch, barf, feh.  indecision Overcast and muggy, hunderstorms off and on throughout the week.

So far no serious fallout from announcing my intention to clean up and leave.  With any luck Friday will be my last day playing Mr. Book Report and I can get to finding a job where I actually DEVELOP SOFTWARE. I get the feeling that nobody really cares and that it was just a token attempt to deconstruct things, being stuck in a desk in the hall is always a sign that you're just a tiny cog in a big machine.  Feh.

One resume' out for a contract in Peachtree City, GA. - one for a contract here in Austin - and one for a contrct in Woodland Hills, CA.  I'm bad, I'm nationwide, as the ZZ Top song goes.  Need to get that 2-page summary resume' done in a few days, I don't plan on going full court press in the job search until next week.. in fac I'd love to take a week and do nothing at all!! surprise

Friday on the way home, I'm going to find some way to get into a boozeatorium and get a bottle of top-end wodka for my "end of contract" party.  Normally I'd go to the strip club, but I can't get the scooter into the place (no ramp up the stairs) so it'll be party at home all weekend. devil

Tying clean-up notes and final documents this week while setting up my job search, downloading some tools so I can code at home to keep my skills sharp, general prep for several weeks of looking for work.  Stress level - fairly low now that I don't feel the crush of an impossible job! laugh

ps. Houdini is a bear to learn - it's not like any other 3D app I've touched.  Wild stuff, though..

I contacted my doc and he said if the insurance flakes, we can setup a payment plan.  I do have two more two-week paychecks coming up, so my cash pool for between jobs is goodly sized and my weekly expenses when I'm not forking over $300 per week for taxis to the office are around $250 at top burn rate.  I should be able to go 10-12 weeks before I feel the end coming, and I can't see it taking that long to find something that'll keep me in rent and food money - even if it's not programming work! devil
