    The Intergalactic Bureaux of Animal Cruelty (TIBAC)

    TIBAC Agent 47, had travelled back in time to the 1930s, deep in the state of Louisiana, USA, after an anonumeous tip about a Polar Bear kept in a cage in the hot and humid land outside the city New Orleans. Finding and freeing the bear was a simple task, but she now had to persue the perpetrators, the evil does, which she suspected were Grandorells, an intergalactic race who feed energy from animal cruelty.

    The Gamers

    Part 1: Let the Games Begin

    Riva and Garen had been regular gamers since their school days: first Ludo and Monopoly, then Chess and Mah Jong, then Dungeons and Dragons and lately all the latest video games. A friend had just presented Garen with a box which he promised contained The Ultimate Gaming Experience: he would never want to play another game.
    Garen brought it to Riva's apartment the next evening. It didn't look particularly special, but they thought they might as well try it. Riva rolled the dice first: 5 and 3. Garen threw 4 and 17 ... what? 17?!? He had picked up the dice to check them, when all at once they felt a rush of cold air and an odd floating feeling.

    Pull Items Used: FWSA Riva, Unshaven Bundle for Genesis, Christmas Accessories, Board Games

    Part 2: Another Roll of the Dice

    They found themselves in a strange room, strangely dressed. They began to explore their surroundings, but suddenly the door flew open and they were under attack from all sides! Garen tried to fend them off, but saw that the odds were impossible. Then he realised that he still had the dice in his hand. He threw them and at once felt that rush of cold air again.

    Part 3: Endgame

    Garen was back in Riva's apartment, seemingly safe and sound. But then he looked down and saw Riva. She still wore a strange circlet on her brow and her skin was pale and cold. He realised that his last dice throw had been too late for her.
    His "friend" had been right: he would never want to play another game.

    Melanie, I feel a strange likness to "the gamers" by dead gentlemen productions, I love it!

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,163

    MelanieL, I've never heard of the story Totte referenced, but I love your story, too. In fact all the stories so far have been fantastic and full of imagination. This is turning out to be one of those RRRRs to live on in legend, I think!

    (Luci45, every time I look at your story, I think of my mother. She used to watch As the World Turns every day that she could. When she went back to work, she couldn't keep up with it anymore. This was before VCRs. One day I was sick and had to stay home from school. She told me to watch As the World Turns and tell he what happened. I took careful notes and reported back. Of course I knew nothing of the characters or the story line. It turns out, that was a significant day, with secrets revealed. My mother was thrilled to hear my report. Thanks for the happy memory.)

    My own fault, leaving it so long to review the posts in this contest - so I've just taken the posts in order then grouped my comments per story:

    @Gopherus #1-A - what a brilliant beginning to the contest - lovely high-action render. And the story is really well told - it certainly made me laugh.
    2 - another amazing render: what a crowd! I love the text with it's "find out in part three - The Wrap Up" in this context.
    3 - tee hee! Is that the origin of swaddling clothes then? Well done on completing a fine and funny story.

    @Saphirewild #1-1 - great start! I love the brightness and there's so much going on.
    2 - really want to know whether they (a) survive the trip, (b) find the treasure.

    @luci45 #1-A - Oh dear, sounds like a tricky time for all. Lovely render.
    B - That must have taken you quite a while, to do all those renders-within-renders?
    C - ha ha! That really captures the joy (?) of reality TV. Very nicely done altogether. Trust you to be the first to finish a whole set.

    Ken OBanion - hey, I just had to go look at that Home Page image - didn't know you played guitar?
    #1-1 - I never got into Scooby Doo (wrong age) so this is an education for me. Nice start - can't wait to see what's coming...

    @barbult #1-1 - And Muck is back! I love your Muck stories. He looks really pained by all that bright thinking though, even though he seems to be borrowing ideas from another business? Great idea.
    2 - I've heard of courier services like that! (Nice render too - love the colours)
    3 - Great end to the story - and another nice render - I love the hover-delivery idea.

    @diomede #1-1 - I've heard of a bull in a china shop, but never a buffalo in a basement! Great idea.
    2 - I hope that West Park crane is up to all that weight! Nice poses.
    3 - ooh, Michael's a bit cavalier with the life of the poor buffalo! Lucky it all turned out well. Congrats on finishing your first story.

    @Totte #1-1 - oh, poor polar bear, I hope TIBAC Agent 47 can sort him out soon. Shaping up to be an interesting story.
    And thanks for you comment on mine - but I had to Google the Dead Gentlemen, I'd never come across that.

    And my Pull #2:

    3519 = Sophisticate Outfit for Genesis 3 Male(s) (23713)
    1415 = The Study Expansion Pack (2382)
    2346 = Predatron Common Nettles (19838)
    1379 = The Cage (9169)
    1525 = Making Faces for Aiko 5 (15772)
    806 = Haunted Mansion Exp 1 (2700)
    2355 = Affable for The Ballroom Exp 1 (16943)
    1909 = Speed Render Stages (18016)
    LB - 2589 = Dynamic 50s Cocktail for DAZ Studio (12149)

    Edit to correct some typos and fix Ken OB's name - that blank is annoying, I keep triggering notices to some poor guy called "Ken" in the forum - wonder if he ever follows one and finds this contest?

    Thanks, barbult. I think you're right, this is shaping up to be a great contest.

    I didn't realise Luci's "As the World Turns" was a real thing (being UK, we don't get most of these US series, only Cop shows and SciFi)

    Thanks Melanie for your comments

    @Totte #1a  Great start to the story.  Keeping a polar bear in the hot and humid bayous of louisiana does seem cruel but probably practical for aliens who want to lick the energized sweat of desperation from it s body.  Nice one!

    @Melanie L #1abc  Really great adventure!  And that fight scene in frame two is really energetic and well done!  Dungeon masters usually have 20 sided dice so rolling a 17 isn t unusual and probably what it would take for the saving throw that extricated him.  They should have taken a healer, paladin or a high level mage with them.  And not to give up because she appears dead.  He could still have a resurrection spell cast upon her or the next adventure could be into the depths of hades to rescue her spirit.  I never saw the gamers but it looks really action filled.  I did see The thirteenth floor where gaming was at the root of a murder mystery.

    I never watched As the World Turns but it was always there in the daytime line up.  I did watch Dark Shadows, a soap of Vampires and Werewolves.  It was after school and in the time slot opposite Howdy Doody (i think).

    Thanks Gopherus. As you might have guessed I have never been a gamer in my life - to me a die has six sides and that's that! I'm at the Ludo and Monopoly end of things (or at least I was as a child) as I'm hopeless at chess and only played Mah Jong for real once (I don't count the version on a PC which I sometimes play to pass the time waiting for downloads on my very variable internet connection). I've known a few people who said they played D&D but that's about as far as I got with that!

    (Edit to correct my increasingly erratic typing!)

    After following the fresh tracks left by two of the Carnival's trucks through a portal, Agent 47 found them abandoned at a ruin north of Rome, Italy, in the year 1956. These Grandorells are tricky beasts, they use time-space worm holes to travel both in space and time, but Agent 47 had done her homework, she knew how to track them, and now she was close. The Grandorellean slime on one of the trucks was still fresh.

    TIBAC Agent 47 kept her pace and she soon found another time-space portal. She ended up in the small south German town of Augsburg, where the international chess championships of 2023 was currenlty held. In front of the old castle ruins, a huge set of chess had been constructed, that showed the current state of the final game. She spotted the two Grandorells, they had cloaked themselves to look like chess pieces. She moved in carefully, the rushed and fired her icer guns, which petrified the Grandorells, while she shouted Checkmate!

    Ken O'Banion #1:
                      1A -
    Looks promising, I wonder how Velma will evolve without her trusted friends and in a new company.

    diomede #1:
                      1C -
    Good to see the buffallo didn't die in the process.

    Gopherus #1:

    Ok, so now that we now there is marriage after life, the question remains - how do they multiply themselves if they're dead? Or is the small mummy adopted and will always remain small like this?

    Totte #1:
                       1A -
    The bear needs to be resqued for sure. He looks so sad inside.
                       1B - I'm sure the slime is fresh. But I can't get this teletubbie tune out of my head: "How spilled the tubbie-pudding?" (play on repeat, because every teletubbie will ask this question at least once and so will the voice-over)
                       1C - Love the chess! Love it!  Wonderfully used DOF and colors. The white and black as contrasting with the warmer foreground really enhance each other. I wish I could drop it into my DA chess collection. Checkmate indeed.

    MelanieL #1:
                        1A -
    Nice special effect, love how the blue magic repeats their shape. Very mysterious. Somehow I was expecting some Jumanji effects in this one, like Elephants appearing out of nothing.
                        1B - And then we have a typical fantasy setting. Wonderful magic again, and the poses are very realistic. Not Jumanji, but trouble in the same proportions. Too bad the reaction was too slow.
                        1C - And then it ends very sadly... The guy who advised the game must have been either a sadist, a mad scientist (wanting to sell his invention) or a very good sword fighter.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Finally got around to make my pull:

    It all started when some dastardly person gave Princess Scarlet a trumpet for her birthday.  She felt obligated to master the instrument, even realizing that it would take at least 6 years.  Every day would find her practicing in the garden.  And she was really, REALLY bad.  The very stones would weep at the notes that came out of that instrument.  Her sister Leyton knew that Scarlet ordinarily would listen to no one.  But still she had an idea.

    Gopherus #2 - Great story and renders! I love love the posing and expressions - the statue guy is hilarious.

    Totte #1 - So cool! I love the action and that first render is beautiful.

    MelanieL - #1 Excellent story but so sad. The perils of gaming. I wouldn't reallyknow, as I am also not a gamer. I probably would have become addicted.

    LOL, barbult, I can see you taking notes and reporting to your mother. That is so funny! My mother watched some of the soaps too and before that my grandmother used to listen to some of the same ones on the radio before TV. (Yeah, I know, I'm old.) I never liked any of them. I agree there have been some really great stories so far.

    Thanks, MelanieL.

    My oh my. Look at all of you. Busy, busy. I haven't made an image since last October nor even made it to the forums. I can see I have a lot of catching up to do. Daz has advanced quite a lot. And your images show it well. Silly me. Not making images yet still buying products. Decided to kick myself in the butt and get started again. I have just ordered a special computer table that I hope will help get me back in my last story on the game of life. I don't expect to make this rrrr, but maybe by the next one. Afterall 6 months+/-, what do they know? I plan to show them all!
