one of these days I'll get around to it,I was recently thinking about doing a livestream while doing product promos, much easier than writing a tutorial

if a little old, I don't even texture like that anymore :\

Hmm, sounds like a need for an updated tutorial to me!

Now that would be awesome! I would definitely watch that.

    Wow!!

You are all freaking amazing! There is no such thing as too many questions, a stupid question or a bad question. The only thing you can do here that would bum me out is -not- asking your question.

... I've got something up my sleeve. :) I can show it in 2 weeks... with the one disclaimer: I am waiting on one more thing for my office to arrive so that 2 week time frame starts from Wednesday of this week.

Please keep them coming! These are perfect. The more you ask, the more I can help. I've bookmarked this thread and will now consider it a living discussion that can continually unfold as we wish.

IDK about having a pocket PA... but I sure wish I had a clone. I would make the clone do all the work, while I lounged beachside.... and then Id keep all the money :D Im not sure clone slavery would be legal tho... and surely there'd be activists if it were lol This makes me sad :(

Seriously, fun thread... but whew lots of questions. IDK where to begin. Ill start with sales. Honestly, the best way to know your margin, is to do a lot of  diff stuff like you're suffering from ADD. Bonus, if you are actually suffering from ADD.

But, always staying with the same type stuff eventually gets old for customers and you start loosing sales. You need to have a wide variety to stuff. If your normally a character PA you would eventually need to add in props. If your a prop maker you need to have a very wide variety. If you a hair PA you need to make drastic changes to the style. Determining what to make is always a crap shoot. You win some and you lose some.

I guess I'd say please, and I'm in the praying position for this, no more poses that send characters flying off to the zeroed x and z cordinates. I like them to pose where I've put them in the scene. Pretty please. (I know that's not a question):

If you ahve such poses and bought them from DAZ (And they are not "GoTo Poses") you should open an Support Ticket. They are a Bug.

You have control over what of the transitions that come with a pose should be applied by pressing the ctrl key while clicking the pose, opens a popup with pose preset load options. untick the translation ones and the pose should stay with the figure in place

Poses in the Daz store should not displace the figure, other than keeping its feet on the floor (if it isn't a flying pose) and positioning it relative to another figure in a multi-figure pose set. If you fnd a pose set that does move the figure around beyond that please open a suport ticket to report it.

... I remember some poses that do that jumping around, I guess I'm gonna collect them and file a ticket then. What about they come with a prop that is off center?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 110,234

Placement poses would be an exception, but they should move the figure node rather than the hip and should not affect any of the bones.

  • Poses with limits can sometimes do funky things if limits are permanently turned off, and kneeling/crouching/laying poses can go similarly wonky if the character they're applied to is too far outside an undetermined range of height difference. For example, any pose meant for Victoria 7 or Teen Josie 7 will cause a similar effect if applied to Rayn/Skyler/Growing Up kids.

Hi Bluebird3D, just wondering if whatever ideas you were brewing had to be put on the back burner for now, or if there is still something coming?

I would wonder how they stay focused with the long time taking projects.  Or is it just my ADD getting in my way?

Ok, a slight rant mixed with abject gratitude. Porsimo released the Army Hybrid Vehicle. It's close to a U.S. MRAP, but not quite.  I would ask that more PAs present reasonable facsimiles of such assets. Since I'm not modeling historical scenes, I don't need rivet-by-rivet fidelity. However, some research is needed. The typical modern MRAP is a dual rear-axle model. the single axle doesn't have rear passenger doors, and most versions have a rear drop-down door for troops. Again, not picking on Porsimo, but this is indicative of many PAs. They "average" the images to create a model. That doesn't always work. My primary issue with the AHV is the rear vent louvers. I had to modify them with DZfire's Nurnies. Below is my version. I am more than willing to add such details as trailer hitches and stowage. But, please... especially with known military vehicles, there are no copyright issues there; as far as I'm aware.

  •  Whew! It has been a busy summer and an even more hectic early fall.

    Update:

    - I've got insider videos.

    - I've got how-to's.

    - I've even got some random cat pics. Cuz.. it's the internet. You have to have cat pics or you get kicked out.

    What I'm doing now:

    - Putting the final stages on editing

    - Tweaking the user experience across the board so this stays easy and fun for all of us

    What I am not doing:

    - Absolutely no whiteboard drawings while I chat about abstract theories and ideas. ;)

I offered a real view and that is what I'm delivering. I do this every day, full time. You get it all. The good, the bad and the really ugly worts.

    So what is it?

    - A YouTube channel packed full of goodies for free.

    - Why free? Because I believe this stuff at the basic level should be. I've got a greater goal in mind.

    Full Disclosure:

    - I'm totally buttering you all up.

    - There will be a day when I need to call on the ranks for a massive common goal. Can't do that without an army. Welcome to my crew. :)

    Delivery:

    - Daz Soon(TM) ... I kid, I kid. The first round of videos will go live on October 31, 2016. You'll know it when you see it. If you miss it then I'm not doing my job right.

Interesting thread, Bluey... do you plan to answer the questions, or can other PAs answer as well?

@Slosh - Yes I will .. with videos. Well kind of...

I am answering all questions that I can answer with 100% experience and knowledge. There are a couple in this thread that I can't address because I am not qualified to do so but even thats kind of neat because I have an idea for them as well.

This whole discussion is incredibly helpful to, just as you suggested, get an idea of where the collective thoughts are.

The biggest beef I have with online learning - even via free YouTube videos - is that the "instructors" often assume that what they are teaching is what I want to learn. Not many of them actually just come right out and say... hey! I've got skills here. Whatcha wanna know?

It takes a lot of my personal time to create these. Thats why you guys are amazing. I could just ask and get a response. :)

    We have an awesome community.

And of course other PAs can answer as well. I hope this inspires exactly that! This is much bigger than me.

LOL! Yeah... see? Lets stick with crew.

It has less chance of giving the impression of a creepy, weird DAZ Studio cult/religion thing.

That would be much harder to explain to the family.

A PA in your office and your pocket too (smartphone), cause I'll answer just about where ever I am or you are.

I found a couple routes I love to create in, many others I have no idea where to begin. All of this 3D business started as a way for me to generate reference for my acrylic paintings because my wife could not hold yoga poses for 20 minutes while I got the lighting right for photos (understandably). So turning to DAZ figures I pulled on this golden thread (DAZ3D) until Mattymanx said- you know, you could start selling this stuff....the golden thread became a rope and after a year I knew I could trust the source. I have to thank SY for my early coaching, truly. We quickly established mutual respect and could be completely honest- what a relief.

So paying it forward I've courted a few artists to become PAs. I dont have a set of rules or workflow, a few templates though, so much seems to be instinct which is challenging to trust when a new inspiration hits real hard. I have dozens of projects in various stages, some even have all the promos complete.....but my attention went to something else. I guess its only the projects that really want to live that make it into the store.

There are so many blocks, new things to learn, and (the most-hated for me) painting myself into a corner with something that has to be re-worked when its almost complete. What it has taken, and this is at the core of it for me, is to love this work like its a high school crush. To be infatuated with it. Remember that feeling?

So I only work in a few areas but my shop is open, drop me a line. And I guess you'll need to look at my shop to see what I'm into otherwise I wont have an idea what you're asking about. Its great there is so much variety and freedom in this business.

~Charlene — thanks for starting this up.
