NEW UPDATES, NEW VIDEOS - And a whole lot of guts.
You guys are inspiring. I mean that.
Here we go!
Bluebird 3D Daily Do, Episode 1 Results - I am now on Snapchat!
My account there is public so that we can all look like goofballs together. Come play with me there so that I can send you obnoxious filters at all hours of the night. (I kid, I kid. Lack of sleep is bad for production. I get my rest!)
JUST POSTED: Bluebird 3D Daily Do, Episode 2 - Live Webinar Scheduled for Friday, November 18th, 2016 @Whatever time I get up and start! It’ll be early.
Yup. This is happening. I’m totally doing it. It could be brilliant. It could be boring. It could just be you watching me fall on my face in public. Won’t that be fun? (I mean for you. It would suck for me! Hah!)
Here is how I see it: I still have a job to do. I might as well let you in on it. The rest will sort itself out.
BRAND NEW PA INSIDER:
You asked: How do I know if my product will sell well on Daz 3D? I’ve let you in on a secret for this one. Shhh.
And that wraps it for now.
I’ve got to get my “do’s” done!
Meanwhile - I am reading every post here and on YouTube. Facebook didn’t notify me the way I expected but I think I fixed that so I should see your PMs there now as well. My apologies for the delay. I think it is sorted.
Wow, Charlene, so I guess I'll be the first to respond to your request that we share what we're doing, what we didn't get done and what the excuse was. My list for yesterday was to do my physical therapy routine (gearing up for major spinal surgery next month if I get the green light from the insurance company), then get into the studio (I'm a commercial photographer) to finish a set of images for a client, make some headway on a commissioned composite, and time-permitting, continue learning and experimenting with rendering in Daz.
Frankly, I didn't get as much done on that list as I should have. As my father taught me early on, the best excuse is no excuse, so I won't bother to offer one as to why I didn't make the progress I expected, however, today is a new day, and I *will* prevail today!
Looking forward to seeing you on Twitch and (god help me, Snapchat, lol).
I was having way too much fun with Snapchat filters last night. ^^ That is an example. :D
But today I had a thought:
Wouldn't it be cool if we could use Daz Studio to create our own custom snapchat filters? Not just the silly ones (although those are my favorite, especially the ones that change my voice. I don't know why it is so funny but IT IS!)
What if we could get the skin painters and figure creators to do things like: Prop snapchat filters. You want to be a spartan warrior? Well snap a selfie and now you are!
I've looked into it and it appears Snapchat only allows what they call geofilters so far. Those are designed to work around a specific event and geographical location. I will be submitting a ticket later on to see if they will share any insights to whether they will eventually allow custom filters without a geographical requirement.
Here is what it could look like for a Daz PA:
- Make your skin and figure
- Sell it at Daz
- Use your own skin to make a Snapchat filter and submit it there - with links back here to your Daz store and biz name.
- Now you have more traffic. Cool!
Here is what it could look like for someone using Daz Studio for their own work:
- Make a comic/still image/animation (whatever your thing is)
- And again turn one of those assets into a filter for your family and friends.
- Or… maybe use the filter to drive traffic to your clients business?
I don’t know. You tell me!
Feels like it could be something.
One last thought:
I can’t get it out of my head. What if we somehow tied Snapchat filters into quick change avatars for Morph 3D? Thats way in the future. I know. But hey… what if?
I've never heard of Snapchat either. I'm looking into it.
I seriously doubt anyone really wants to know what I did or didn't get done on my massive daily Do list. I'm a fairly boring SAHM trying her best to write a novel. But, I'll drop the highlights of the major things on my Do list for yesterday and what's on my list today.
What did I get done yesterday? Around the House: I didn't get anything done yesterday. Daz Studio: I finished setting up a scene in DS for the VR contest. I thought it was going to render overnight, but DS crashed at some point during the night and no render in the temp folder so I had to start that rendering again this morning. Homeschooling: Yesterday was history day. It was also the boys' karate day. (karate is 4 days a week) Writiing: Nope, didn't get any writing done yesterday which means I may spend extra time doing that today.
What I have to get done today: Around the House: Laundry. Daz Studio: After my render finishes, I need to work on a new set of wolf group poses. This one has four different poses to it so it is a multi-day project.
Finish working through the tutorial on making mdl shaders in Substance Designer (had to stop about midway through) then see if I can apply that knowledge to the Shader Mixer in DS so I can make my own Iray shaders. Writing: Skipping those troublesome chapters today to work on a couple of fun ones. :) Homeschooling: Give out new assignments for the week. Math class.
I'll save everyone from the boredom and not do that daily. :)
I just went to your Facebook page and liked it. I think that means I should get updates in my news feed now. I don't really do much on Facebook. I am amazed at how many PAs are in the neighborhood I left. So many are in the upstate region of NY and I didn't discover DS until after leaving NY 2 years ago.
Charlene, I really don't understand what you mean by a crowd sourced business. Care to explain more?
Edited to add: I'm not on Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, etc. either. I spend enough of my life online in the Daz forums. I don't want more social media time sinks in my life at this point. I hope that won't preclude me from participation in this journey.
You are recording the webinar so others can watch it later, right? Timing may be bad for some people to watch it. Then perhaps break it down into segments, as suggested by someone else. Love your willingness to share, very thoughtful.
RESPONSES TO YOUR THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS:
What a great week. :) You guys are fun.
@pds - Ohhh cool! What is it like being a commercial photographer? How does someone even get started in that field? I imagine it is quite competitive and demanding.
@AllenArt - Welcome to my world! I was in the same boat with Snapchat. Now I get it a bit more. The filters are addicting. I admit it.
@FSMCDesigns - Oh yah. I feel you there. I’m struggling with getting my social responses down to a more streamlined workflow. I think I can work that out tonight. We still have other things to do all day, right? Can’t hang out and chit chat for hours. It would be fun, though.
@Artini - You are welcome! I’m really glad you are enjoying them. I think the content that comes from the webinar will provide a lot more substance, too, and gives us a chance to dig into exactly how content is made for Daz Studio.
@estroyer - YAY! Thank you! I see your responses there and we’ve been able to touch base on it already, too. I will be more available on it for helping with Daz Studio tips as we progress.
@knittingmommy - Holy! You are one very busy lady. I admit. I kind of needed a nap after reading that list. You have my full respect. Where were you in NY?
@barbult - Heck yeah! I’ll explain more. Today’s Daily Do goes into the feedback I got from yesterday’s video and also shares what I am doing about it. And as for the social media concern, don’t even worry about that. I am making myself as available as I can so that it makes it easier on you guys but I don’t expect anyone to join a social media service they really just have no interest in. I’ll come to you. No worries.
@saphirewild - Hop on in and have a seat! Don’t mind the cooler full of beer just there. That.. uh… that’s not mine. *looks away*
@Novica - Absolutely! And… it turns out the AI over at YouTube might like this kind of thing, anyway. Who knew? It looks for useful content and training like this and does what it can to present it to others who want it. So we might be seeing some existing or new Daz Studio fans over time. If the webinar goes well, I’ll do a lot more.
I should go get my green screen set up after I get my list done. See you guys soon!
I'll try to keep it short since we all have plenty to do, lol. Commercial photography is a great blend (for me, at least) of the technical and the artistic. Every job is different, with its own set of challenges and learning opportunities. It's never dull, and results in making new friends from all around the world. I suspect getting into it isn't much different than becoming a 3D artist...you have to have a passion for it, be willing to put yourself out there, be comfortable working long hours against tight deadlines, constantly refine your skills and learn new things, and generally be pretty tech savvy. I made the decision last year to expand my skillset by learning a 3D workflow that would at some point enable me to incorporate 3D renders into my digital images. I've come to better appreciate in the last 6 months that a 3D workflow is a one long and rather complicated pipeline, and to do it all (and well) is a significant undertaking. Learning Daz was my way of shortening the time frame by which I could begin to incorporate 3D elements into my work, but ultimately, my goal is to be capable of developing my own custom assets for use in commercial renders. The timing of your decision to share what you know couldn't have been more perfect for me, so again, THANK YOU!
@knittingmommy - Holy! You are one very busy lady. I admit. I kind of needed a nap after reading that list. You have my full respect. Where were you in NY?
Ah, and that was the short list. I usually have tons of stuff on my list that may or may not get done. I have three teenage boys who are usually pretty good about adding things to my list as well. I think I also ended up adding a quick trip to the grocery store that day, too. :)
I lived in the village of Dryden about 50 minutes south down I81 between Cortland and Ithaca. We used to go to Syracuse often on the weekends. Now, I'm waaaaay down south in Florida.
Change in plans, though: No Twitch! The system got uppity about some game I was either supposed to choose or approve or... who knows. I had no patience for it.
So..
I will be on YouTube right here tomorrow:
PLEASE NOTE:
For the sake of creating the page, the event is scheduled at 6:30 am. However, since it is now 11:08 pm, I can't guarantee that. I only needed a time to set it up. I promise to let you know when I am there.
I've done everything I can to be sure this is good to go. Fingers crossed!
See you tomorrow - and remember, this will (in theory) be recorded so even if you can't make it, you should be able to catch it later if you choose.
@snowsultan - Hah yeah thats what I figure will happen today, too. But the later viewing really should come in handy.
@gedd - You know.. I thought about that last night but wasn't as familiar with the set up as I am with YouTube. I think I will give it a look over the weekend, though, if today seems helpful to people.
Well I'm not sure how many people use G+ and I've seen in the past where people had some streaming issues occasionally but it has some very nice features related to streaming, messaging and general community interaction that are all together in one space. I haven't seen any other platform which has it's particular feature set brought together under one roof. Kinda beta though it seems so it depends on one's tolerance for hiccups.

I am with Greg and Sonja on the sharing your workflow for sure and to show about morphing etc........
I am on pins n needles waiting with my hands under my butt trying to be patient!!!
