Just couldn't resist this. Straight into the cart it went without a second thought!

Parrotdolphin's shaders are brilliant, I can't get enough.

Thank you very much for all the hard work to produce this product.

Same here. I use the first one more than any other right now.

Remember the great scaling script in kit 1? Kit 2 has an even greater LIE script! It makes working with the layered image editor so much easier.

  • Is it a merchant resource or no?

Parrotdolphin let me beta test her shader kit. Here are some images I rendered with PD Iray Shader Kit 2. The shaders may have fabric names, but they are useful for much more. In the Plaza Romantica image I used the shader on just about everything other than the plants, hair and skin, I think. I used the metallic overlays on jewelry; it worked great. I even used the shaders on a plane to make a portrait background for the women in the brown sweater. In the school yard image, I used the shaders on the girl in red; the gray outfits are the regular materials in the product.

There is nothing on the store page to indicate that it is a merchant resource, so I would assume not. You could submit a help request to Daz and ask, I suppose.

No, it's not a merchant resource.

Thanks Barb! I am really curious if anyone else has tried the LIE script and what they think of it. Alsp, keep in mind the LIE script can be used on the LIE shader presets from kit 1, except the fade and dirt will have no effect but you can use it to change the colors and to scale the size.

I love the Dress Code Violation one, very cute!

  • These look amazing! I loved the first kit and use the shaders and the LIE script quite a bit. Will definitely be picking this up!

I love her freebies, so I try to support her products as well :)

edit: Also, the scripts are a godsend, so I don't have to do everything manually :D

Yes, after I got PD Iray Shader Kit 1 with the scaling script, I went through my content library and deleted hundreds of clumsy tiling presets. The scaling script does all that much better. I cleared up a lot of clutter. I created a custom action for the scaling script and add it to the toolbar of my workspace. Now I can access it any time with a single mouse click.  Ah.... Great!

Parrotdolphin told me a great tip for using the scaling script along with the realtime Iray preview. That tip is to set the scaling to 90% (if you want to reduce the size of the pattern) or 110% (if you want to enlarge the size of the pattern). Then just keep clicking on Make Changes to make incremental changes until you get to the scale you like.

I need to play with that. Hmm.

Yeah, I'd say a good 1/3 of my content library are things I could probably do myself, but it would take a huge amount of time and effort.

Picked this up as my MM item today. I especially look forward to using the leather and crocodile bump maps as I can think of loads of uses for those. Great stuff.

Yup it tells a great story. Not so sure about the cute though.

I installed both the PD shader kits with connect and they are all jumbled together in smart content compared to how the are set up in the Content library when installed with DIM, I guess the metadata is all messed up?

Smart Content sorts by category. Since Daz assigns the categories like "fabric", "leather", "metal" to lots of products, you will find lots of products jumbled together in the Files view. Switch to the Products view and select PD Iray Shader Kit 2. Then you should see some categories along the left side. That will help a little, but I'm not happy with the way Daz assigned the categories. They left a lot of the very important text icons and even the LIE Script in Lost and Found. It might be easier to use the product from the Content Library>Products view. Parrotdolphin organized the filenames in a very good way so that they are in order with the text hint icons right along with the icons they apply to.

Also, I discovered last night that the LIE script doesn't show the images next to the radio buttons when it is installed with Daz Connect. Also the link to the User Guide doesn't work the way she intended. Both of these worked perfectly during beta testing. The problem is something related to the way Daz Connect installs them, I think. Parrot dolphin is in contact with Daz to try resolve that issue.

What I do is like what barbult just said, I set the Smart Content tab to Products instead of Files, then select the product and then select All so I can see everything in the correct order. It's a lot more intuitive this way. And I did contact Daz about fixing the LIE Script for the Connect install and the User Guide issue.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions, I am in the product view but I really find it annoying that all the text icons were in Lost and Found.  They were put in the package for a reason and without them where they are supposed to be it's a little difficult to know what steps to follow to create new designs so I am kinda fumbling through it and managing by flipping back and forth with the User Guide and came out with some interesting looks lol.  I really love the product parrotdolphin, hopefully Daz will get it to install correctly with Connect the way you designed it to work.  I thought it was strange there was nothing beside the radio buttons in LIE script, hopefully that gets fixed soon too, I just clicked buttons to see what would happen :)

  • It's easier if you set the Product view to All like in the attchment. That way you see everyting and in the correct order. I guess until they fix the LIE script you could refer to the User Guide or the Promo image to see what the colors schemes are supposed to be for the LIE script radio buttons. Those both have screenshots of the LIE script window.

You can see the image of the LIE script in the user guide to see what images should be there. They are just some presets to play with. You can still accomplish everything by setting the colors and sliders.

I wrote a bug report about the the text icons and LIE Script being in Lost and Found. That doesn't mean they'll fix it, though. I encourage you to write a bug report too.

Yeah, I have that problem with a lot of the shader packs, where it's like 'apply this first!' and I'm like... um... wot

  • and I thought I was just doing something wrong on my end when I was searching through the shader presets in Smart Content! Blasted DAZ Connect. It never seems to get the categories right and I usually end up using content library instead. Grumble grumble...

Please write bug reports, guys. If we are the squeaky wheel, maybe this will get some attention.

My method of dealing with Daz Connect is not to install what it needs. :) And then not use it - completely bug free.

Back on-topic; just picked this up, and loving it. Working on a Mother daughter scene with Zev0's merchant resource and these new shaders. As I have time.

Well...that's one way to deal with it! wink I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, as they say. cheeky

I'd love to see your mother daughter image when you get it done.

It's always been my view that Smart Content isn't nearly smart enough, and hasn't gotten any smarter over the years. Content tab works for me and can easily be arranged to make sense for each user.

Smart Content actually has gotten a LOT smarter in DS 4.9, but it is hampered by metadata errors and missing metadata in products. I hear that Daz is working hard to get metadata fixed, but they have a LONG way to go yet, based on my usage experience. PD Iray Shader Kit 2 is brand new, and still it was released with metadata errors. Sigh.....sad
