Here is something entirely different. I applied the crocodile shader to Genesis. I used the UV from Sculptural Ultra Fun Kit. I copied the bump map into the displacement channel map and increased subD to 4. The iris and pupil are metals from MEC4D's metals shaders. The cornea and sclera are the Daz Iray resin shader with the color changed to dark green.

Now that looks super cool!  I have that UV thing, but haven't used it much.  I haven't tried anything like this yet.  You did a great job on it!

Hmm. I should probably do a tutorial or something.

There are a number of things I think you should do a tutorial on, but starting with decals would be good!

Hm, I was thinking of doing something similar with the UV mapping thing, and my *theoretical* approach was the following:

    • Export the figure as OBJ
    • Retop/Remap it with a uniform UV (I believe there are freebie utilities to do this)
    • Import it back in and use the transfer utility on the obj (may need to convert prop to figure)

Another method I thought of was using geografts, which is similar to how the V4 to G3F UV utilities work...

    +!

Decals, Geometry Tool/Settings... I'd pay for a good tutorial on how to use Geometry Shells, the  Geometry Tool and all the tools settings! PDF, not video.

Trying to figure out where to put said tutorial. Maybe give it a weird title so it's easy to search for later?

Not too weird! Be sure it at least says "Decal" and "Iray" in the title. How about"timmins.william demystifies the Iray decal"? I'll bet demystifies does not appear in to many forum posts (although I haven't actually checked that).

Well there is now at least one. :)

    Er... two.

You could put it on your DA page and put a link to it in the tutorial thread in the Art Forum.

I'm not sure how to set up a tutorial on my DA page. Hrm

Will investigate. Doing a long render, maybe tonight or tomorrow.

For what it's worth, the actual steps aren't all that complicated:

    Add Iray Decal
Set Y to 100 (roughly the middle of the figure)
Set scale to 400% (so the decal covers the entire figure)
Set decal to front&back, spherical (others might work, depending, experiment!).
Go into Shaping, Eyes, Eyelash Hide 01 and 02 (because otherwise they look goofy all shaded and stuff)

Put pretty stuff in the decal.

Maybe rotate the projection to get the effect you want, but that's it.

  • I want to get an idea of how people feel about this product. So, I figured I'd ask a few questions.

Does anyone use the LIE script? Would a second LIE script with new colors be useful? Do people like the LIE script?

Would more Full Presets be useful?

    Is the product too complicated?

    Thanks for any answers!

The LIE script with the fade and dirt sold me on the product (I already had your first kit and really like it.).

I'd love to have a choice of different fade and dirt images instead of having to go through Lie and your folder to pick another one or to create one myself.

The Full presets are great, either they make me save time or give me ideas.

I don't find your product complicated at all. It is easy to understand the way it is presented.

I don't regret my purchase, very good product.

Well, I didn't get notified of an update to this thread. I just found these April posts when I came back to add a new image.

To answer your question, parrotdolphin, Yes, I use the LIE script to adjust color, fade, and dirt. I generally use the scaling script to do just scaling, because it is faster. I only use the scaling in the LIE script if I am in the script and adjusting other things at the same time. I sometimes use the LIE script to modify full presets, too. More full presets would be welcome. I use the existing ones a lot. I don't think we need new colors in the LIE script, because you made it so we can select any color we want. The suggested combinations are nice, but not limiting. I don't think the product is too complicated, but it does take some time reading the PDF to get the most out of it. I still love both kit one and two! In fact, I came here today to post a link to an image I just finished that uses shaders from both kits.

First of all, a really great product, parrotdolphin. I have most if not all of your Poser materials from Rendo. Your products are ALWAYS awesome!

I've only just started using the LIE scripts. I'll admit I was scared since I'm very much new at DAZ Studio. But they're easier than I though and I love the variations.  So yes, I use the LIE scripts, and would welcome more.

The full presets I haven't used. Again, I'm new to DAZ Studio so I haven't had a chance to try them.

The product, in my opinion, is not complicated at all. I jumped right into it and figured it out in only a few minutes. The structure at which everything is organized helped, but I like to experiment, which caused me to look into the LIE scripts.

And being the greedy boy I am, I always anxiously await your products. ;)

That would be good to have different fade/dirt choices in the script.

    Thanks for the feedback xmasrose!

Thanks Tykey! I'm glad it's not too complicated even for someone new to DS.There is a lot you can do with the product, so experimenting is good!
