I generally 'go to mapped folder' and try to puzzle it out from raw directory which is supposed to be where.
My suggestion for products is to keep things in separate subdirectories. It's harder for the set up to get effed.
Double post - see below
OK, back to the product topic here:
I used the PDISK2 (PD Iray Shader Kit 2) on the top and pants. The top has one of the stripes full presets and then I changed it to Cotton Keep Images and added a bump map. Then I used the Scale Shader Size script to make the stripes narrower. On the pants I used Cotton, added a bump map, picked a light blue color, and selected one of the dirt and fade icons. Then I used the LIE script to adjust the dirt and fade to suit me.
Lighting and background are from No Emotion HDRs.

I just learned something! I can make fabric kind of like camouflage fabric by using the LIE script to modify the colors of dirt and fade. I applied a base and a color and dirt and fade. Then I ran the LIE Script and played with the two colors in the script. I also dialed fade and dirt to the max value. It is kind of hard to predict how the two selected colors will be blended with the base color, so experimenting while the Iray render preview was going was necesary. I did that to the pants in this render.

If they can't even get the new products right how do we ever expect to see all the old products fixed? At this point I am really considering just going back to DIM until it's all straightened out, 4.9 is great but Connect and Smart Content is a mess and I am only getting more frustrated trying to find stuff instead of seeing what my new computer can do rendering.
On TOPIC: Love that camo look barbault, I am going to try that method out later when I get home from work and see how it turns out
@barbult Love those two renders. I'm playing around with two of my kids and I'm finding that I don't have enough kid friendly clothes for G3 yet. I think I'm going to have to go in and try to model some. Haven't played with this product yet. It is on my list of things to do today. Which shirt and pants are those in your renders?
I've really gone nuts with fabric shaders lately. Having more control and management of detailed clothing... is awesome.
For example: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Fitted-dress-with-ultra-bodysuit-596238099
I THINK I only used Kit 1, but I'm not 100% sure. The opacity map is Merimay, but the rest is all from Parrotdolphinery.
These shaders and scripts are so awesome! Almost everything in this render utilizes the new shaders: cotton and cotton bump maps for the t-shirt, leather and bump map for the jacket and belt, and jeans preset for the pants, The background also has the cotton and dirt/fade shaders on it.
I haven't tried this with either kit yet, but is there a way to make lace trim? I'm thinking that I could use the sheer presets and bump the opacity?
Shader Kit 1 has some lace textures. If your item has a separate surface at the edge for a hem or trim, you can apply one of the lace shaders to that surface.
Me too atm.
Currently trying out a virtual server with exchange 2013 on it; or having fun installing it. The way it's been going, I'd mutch rather be rendering. :)
Part of the reason for the changes were to make it easier for new users; it was an expensive way of doing it. Introducing a feature that didn't fix something that needed doing. Ah well, I'm sure DAZ_etc are all having ooooodles of fun fixing meta data and bugs. :)
Oh yeh, and found a dress somewhere, specifically for a kid; either here and older, or from Wilmap's site. I know I got a Genesis 1 item recently for Daz. Using it to learn how to use the shaders properly, both this and V1.
Other options:
Depending on how the model is set up, you might be able to create a different surface zone with geometry editor. This isn't as hard as it sounds (though if the cuff isn't well-designed, it probably won't work). You can glance at the model in wireframe mode and see -- is the cuff a nice separate circle, or does it merge with everything willy-nilly?
You might be able to do something with a geoshell -- use opacity to shorten the sleeves of the item, then the geoshell is the same texture, with lace, but extends a little further.
I'll probably have to create my own surfaces, since I'll have to draw in new seams for fabric->lace :/ It's too much to ask for pre-seamed textures anyway :D
Although, I do have an idea: create the lace, then use one of the horizontal/vertically striped cutouts to make a "seam" along the edge through LIE or geoshell.
Just wanted to let people know that these issues have been corrected.
Is there a tutorial on how to use the Smart Content? I'm use to working with the actual content library, but Daz Connect is forcing me to figure out the SmartContent library. It's not intutive to me. Most the time when I search for something by product name exactly like the store, nothing shows up. So I am not doing something right. I am willing to learn a workflow, if it will allow me to work smoothly to find content. Can anyone point me to...
This is a sincere inquiry about what i need to learn to be more efficient in my workflow.
When you search are you in the product tab or the file tab of Smart Content? Remember you can also find the products, in alphabetical order, in the Products list in the Content Library pane and the content will be in the Categories view in the Content Library too.
I have to say I gave up on Connect and the smart content tab and went back to DIM and Content Library. It is a great concept but I am now going to wait until it works like it claims and everything you install with it isn't a jumbled mess
Good to know. I love working with this product! Thanks!
Here is a link to some Smart Content help I posted for another user. It might help you get started. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1025766/#Comment_1025766
Great experiment and result!
Here is something entirely different. I applied the crocodile shader to Genesis. I used the UV from Sculptural Ultra Fun Kit. I copied the bump map into the displacement channel map and increased subD to 4. The iris and pupil are metals from MEC4D's metals shaders. The cornea and sclera are the Daz Iray resin shader with the color changed to dark green.
VERY nice.
And thanks for the tip... that UV map looks like it'd solve a dozen problems I've had!!
(plonk into wishlist)
Ah, that's a nicely cool toon style or is it toon? It looks good though.
That UV map is invaluable when you want to maintain uniform tiling size on shaders across the Genesis body. Sculptural Genesis Ultra Fun Kit also has lots of useful poses, accessories (like fig leaf), and 3Delight shaders.
I've been relying on Iray decals to do 'one body texture,' but it has certain limitations compared to that approach.
I have trouble positioning decals. I can't see where they are, because I only see bounding marks.
Well, it's easy when you just want to cover the whole figure. ;)
Move the thing up to the middle of the figure, make it bright green so you can see what you are doing, make it front/back and increase scale until the entire figure is green, then apply a surface and tweak. You may want cube or spherical projection, depending, and then you can tilt the projection to your liking. For my wooden figure (in Show me thread), I ended up using spherical projection and rotated it a bit so the grain cut in a way that looked about right.
Note that you may want to use a geoshell if you want to control material zones the decal is on. I also found it helpful to 'hide eyelashes' in shaping tab.
Hmm. I should probably do a tutorial or something.
A tutorial would be good! Thanks for these tips.
