  • Briefing room update:

Added some plants from an office set I'd grabbed awhile back. Still need to re-build the table terminal, andyou can't see the viewscreen control panel but that got rebuilt as well. Re-did some of the wall coloring. Just about done with this room I think.

I'm calling the Constitution Class Refit Briefing Room set done. The first image is just an un-rendered screenshot of the assembled room without the ceiling or ceiling lights to give a better view. I added some crew in slightly modified Uzilite New Adventure outfits to look more like the Wrath of Khan Uniforms all sporting rank and film badges from the Valiant version of the outfit. Wanted to give the room a little more scale and show it in use. I'll have to come up with a few shots to put on the viewscreen when they're having a number of meetings, but other than that, good to go.

Still on my list to do for my comic
    - Galaxy Class Shuttlebay Complex (alternate version combing Shuttlebay 2 and 3 - I did start this already but I'm starting over using the same method I used to build this set)
    - Junior Officers Quarters Constitution Refit (They're a good deal smaller than the Senior Officers - could mod the set mdbruffy already did but I need the practice)
    - Phaser Control Room Constitution Refit (there are no real plans for this one but I've seen a number of different configurations I like)
    - El-Aurian Historic Archive (building this from scratch)
    - El-Aurian Archive Control Room (I have a few parts I'm using from old downloads but may also be from scratch)
    - Alien Spacecraft Model (wanted something new but may settle as I'd like to have this comic done before the end of the year)
    - Planetary Textures (Need it to look like a new/old world the ship's in orbit over)
    - Exterior Al-Aurian Archive with landing pad  (I have a few different ideas here)

You might also want to re-think the lighting. Looks a little on the dark side.  Otherwise, this looks great!

I'm probably going to add in more lights in the ceiling later on for a different set of flashbacks I have planned (several comics or storiesdown the road) but I wanted to match the lighting/mood from Wrath of Khan and that was a much darker look for the sets than TMP or even Search for Spock.  But yeah definitely a little darker than normal. And thanks!

  • Ok, Star Trek II, after Reliant blows open Engineering with her phasers, she fires a torpedo at the Enterprise and hits it in the saucer section towards the back just bove the lettering on the hull. Looking at blueprints and so on it look like it's either G deck or H deck or in between the two. I coudln't find anything on google on this, but would this be a fair assessment?

I would have to say yes. Google doesn't seem to have any hi-res screenshots for some reason...

Yes. Depending on which source you're looking at, that part of the saucer is either one or two decks high. Also depending on who made the model that got blowed up real good, and whose plans he was working from.

    Beyond that, it gets complicated...

I don't have much to show lately, but I started doing some rework on the Forrestal Crew. Since the majority of them show up as the Khambatta Crew not much of a change except for the inclusion of Xon.

LOL Yes indeed it does. I have a general idea of what might be there or what's nearby at least according to the anniversary blueprints so it fits with Khan's attack more in my head and gives me more fodder to play with in the story I'm working on.

I ended up on Trekcore and found a few screenshots from the HD version of the film that helped. Definitely looks like G and H deck going by the deck plans I found. Basically not a great spot to get hit if you've just lost access to the power from your warp core and need full access to your Jefferies Tubes to fix it quickly.

    DOWNLOAD HERE:  http://www.sharecg.com/v/84233/view/11/Poser/Orion-Male-Costume-for-M4-Valiant

Although nobody has looked at my gallery and said, "M, you're doing a fine job of depicting Orion ladies, but when are the fellows gonna get some equal time?"  here are some Orion costume textures for M4 Valiant. Textures are for Tunic, Pants, Boots, and Bracers.  There is a displacement map included in the texture folder for each tunic style.  If you wish, you can "plug in" this map to work with whatever sort of Poser or DAZ Studio set up you prefer.

These outfits are designed for the very, very, seldom seen Orion male population after the very few examples of costumes seen in ST:ENT and the ST:Online game... But should also work for any other space pirate type.

(I'm still working on getting that Arboretum set packaged up, but in P-trope-like fashion, I got distracted by this new project)

You should consider becoming a PA and selling texture sets through the store here.

Thanks, darlin'!  But my set-up is way too primitive (and too Poser-based) for this place, I'm afraid.  I've thought about doing some textures for the costume models on sale at Vanishing Point, but am just not sure that my work is good enough to be commercial.

  • So I started re-building the shuttlebay complex (combined version of Shuttlebay 2 and 3 roughly based off the Whitefire Enterprise D blueprints) in my modeling program. I decided to model a few exterior parts of the ship so I can get better exterior composite shots of shuttles leaving the hangar. I'm also going to model the hangar portion below this since I decided to cut into the deck for the elevator. I changed a few things in how the bay supports are set up and I'm thinking that I'm going to actually build two control booths into them with tractor beam emitters mounted right below them and two viewing areas kind of like they had in the TOS version of the shuttle hangar overlooking the bay.

This is completely lacking doors, except for the big exterior doors which I really want to detail with either textures or hard detail. Building this up like this I realize how abolutely small the sets were for this in the show and how incredibly tiny the door was to the one on the actual model. Those really are some MASSIVE doors.

Yeah I know I have a good chunk of this built before in DAZ, but I couldn't get the exterior walls right in that at all, and here they'll actually work.

Thanks, guys... You're making me tear up now!

I'm very happy that what I create is contributing to there being more good ST art and resources out there.  That's always my main goal.

Still working on getting that blasted Arboretum set to load correctly.... Somehow I've still got some .obj file pointing back to the wrong folder.

  • I'm having a really toughtime building the secondary hull shuttlebays in the Galaxy class. Bay 2 and 3 if built by themselves wouldn't be too bad, but it's the EXTREMELY subtle curves of the neck of the cobra of the engineering hull on the Galaxy that are driving me slowly insane.

I'm actually thinking seriously about simply building the main shuttlebay on the saucer section and calling it good. The walls would be much straighter, it's just as big a complex as what I'm trying to build in much tighter areas of the ship and I'd not have to deal with some really picky curves and angles.

At least on first glance... ugh. Decisions.

Would this pic help any? all you really need is an angled exterior wall.
