I'm building the briefing room we never actually got to see on the screen for the Refit Enterprise based off the top down blueprints from Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise. The table is lacking details and I haven't built the console that's attached to the wall viewer yet either. I'm thinking that the chairs are just going to be the ones from the crew quarters as the bridge chairs would take up way too much space. It really ended up resembling the quarters from the original series a bit I think, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just doesn't seem like there was much variation. I'm buildingthis in Truespace. I wanted all the pieces at least built and fitting together before I export into DAZ. There's a bit of that hallway I was building off to the side as well. I figure that'd go along with it so the briefing room could be loaded as an attachment to the corridor or you could load itup with a bit of corridor so you didn't have to load up everything for a quick entrance and exit shot.
Looking really good. I've wanted to see that set realized for a very long time.
It's very nice, and I would definitely find a use for it in my fan film series. :) Please do share it! :)
Thanks! It's getting there.
I finally figured out what I'm doing for the table base since putting the support in like 60s style Trek wasn't doing it for me.I'm thinking one support that runs the length of table and comes down in a sort of arch into the floor will do it. I'm tyoing with a few ideas that won't make it exact to that blueprint, but will be pretty close. Going to try a combination of ceiling and floor lighting like the corridors have. That and the walls are pretty bare which doesn't fit well with what they did in the crew cabins in the films at all either so I'll have to think of something.
Jane Kirk: From five to zero, no command in the universe can prevent the computer from fulfilling its destruct orders. You can use your will to drag this ship to Cheron. But, I command the computer. Mine is the final command.
Recreating a scene from episode 70: "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield"
Love that you're doing these beyond what we got in that 2 issues that was really squandered.
IDW wasted paper on those issues. There was so much more they could have done and they ignored all the possiblities.
Yeah it was like a fleeting greeting and the barest of glimpses into the other universe. It really bothered me they didn't do anything interesting with it
Just a quick update - I'll have my Arboretum set up soon. I had some unexpected issues that turned out to be because I saved my .obj files in with my Sketchup files instead of with my Poser files.
I've also been working on uniforms from the upcoming film based on what I could see in the trailer. They've changed the neck and given the female uniform sleeves. Guess someone finally figured out that if you could tell a man who was a lieutnent from a man who was a commander by looking at his uniform, it just might be necessary to do that for women too...
I finally got through enough of mycold induced death plague to work on my briefing room a bit more. I'm toying with different light fixture ideas and thought I'd carry over the floor style lights in the corridors into the briefing room. I don't know if I'm entirely happy with the wall console below the viewscreen, but I do like the table support much more now than the TOS style block I had originally. I don't know if there are any flagpole models out there for the flags that are supposed to be up in the room, but I may just forgo those for now.
The wall console looks really good so far. And overall it's coming together quite nicely. Great work!
There was so much more they could have done: Different ship design, different uniform designs, and they just acted blind to it all.
It's looking good. What kind of chairs were you going to use?
I actually was thinking about the motion picture bridge chairs but they're too big and bulky for the table, so I actually loaded it up using the chairs you and ptrope built for the living quarters for the motion picture room and they look good, but I need to try rendering it with them in it. I did import all my bits and pieces from Truespace into Daz so I'll get to see here in a few hours what's working and what's not working. :)
Okay. :-)
Some more views of my Romulan bridge set for MD who wanted to see it. The capatins seat and crew seats are seperate props
Looks good all the way around. There's always a need for more non-starfleet bridges.
HI, gang! Sliding through again! This time I have a question about converting Oshikai's Retro Skirt from Aiko 3 to Victoria 4 - I posted the question and pics on the RDNA forum, so rather than repeat all that here, I'll link it (since we're all one big happy family now, dontchaknow? ;) ) Has anyone done this successfully with the PP Fitting Room, or, for that matter, another clothing converter? I'm still amazed that, with all the Trek art being made, that no one has ever created an accurate dress for the more realistic figures ...

Wardrobe Wizard did a good job foe me
Hmm! I haven't used it in a long time, and that was the standalone - I see there's a script in PP2014, so I guess that would be a good thing to try ;). Thanks!
EDIT: Double "hmm!" Clicked the "Wardrobe Wizard" menu line in the Scripts menu and got about half a dozen error lines - that might be WHY I haven't used it in a long time ...
EDIT2: WW works in PP1, but I don't have the figures, so I'll have to contact PhilC - I know I've had them in the past, but with my HD failures, I've probably lost the A3 and V4 figure files ... oh, well!
All right. Did a bunch of test renders for color testing, ambient settings and then spotted a few problem lines in the bulkheads so I'l have to rebuild those and reimport them, but other than that, the briefing room did come out pretty solid. Need to add a plaque or art or something on a few of the walls and the detail for the console on the table as well as controls for the viewscreen console, but I really like the chairs mdbruffy and ptrope had up for the living quarters in here. I picked white initially for the wall color detail as this is located on G Deck and in Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, G Decks wall plating is supposed to be white. I originally carried that into the briefing room from the corridor but I think a bit of color in here might be nice. That and I'll need to play with the ambient settings in the corridor otherwiseeveryone who steps onto G deck will be blind.
Other thing I'm probably going to do is rebuild the outer walls so that the dark wall on the one side of the room can be hidden so you can put a camera more easily on that side for more shots.
I also only rendered these in half time with iray not full so they're a bit grainier than usual but I could churn them out faster.
EDIT: I kind of like the white now that I've been looking at it. It really brightens the room a bit subtly. If I do go with the white I'm going to up the texturing/bump map on those raised wall panels. You can barely see it in the blue version of the first render and not at all in the white, but it's there. I'll have to try that I think. Although the white would really work well for the Motion Picture era, they did darken things up with Star Trek II and III and added a bunch of chunky details, so the coloring makes more sense there, but I don't know that they'd have gone a blue/green.
Ok, so leave it be for a Motion Picture briefing room and 'greeble' it up a bit for the films I was actually building this for. Sorry, I'm rambling. I'll get back to work now. lol
That's looking real good. Those chairs work real good with that set.
They do! I'm really glad you shared those. And thanks! I came up with some ideas to flesh out the one wall a bit more while I'm working on the bulkheads among a few other things. I never thought I'd be this involved with what amounts to a room they hold regular meetings in... Granted I can change out furniture and stuff to make it a crew lounge or other rooms, but way too involved either way ;)
You might consider some potted plants- they did for the TOS.
Also a possibility. If I do add a plant it'll probably be a stock one someone already made up for poser/Daz. Foliage is not on my modeling agenda.
There's lots of freebies out there. Just a matter of finding them.
Well I was toying with some side wall detailing and came up with a kind of random design to fit along that wall after I rebuilt the bulkheads for the room. Those imported ok and I'm not seeing any weird geometry issues when I render them,so yay! I upped the bump mapping bya LOT togetthat texturingon the wall details to showup. the new wall details has it but it's not showing up as neatly because of the lighting. And I still need to redo the table console but I realized there was anissue with the viewscreen console so I'll rebuild them both at the same time today I think.
I am on the hunt for a potted plant to drop into the lone corner back there if anyone has any cheap recommendations I'll gladly take them. ;)
You might check at Xfrog they have a bunch of free plants in different formats
I went through my older stash of CDs I burned way back when looking for material I could use and found a few plants in there to use, but I'll still check it out. Thanks!
Awesome Find in the DS Creative Magazine: Collective 3D Phaser!! Excuse the crappy lighting.
