Hello everyone, here's my first try at animation done with Iray.. http://www.kkstudio.us/cc/final_tct.mp4
Done with a dual xeon 6 core processor, 24gb ram Dell Workstation with a gtx 970. I used the "sunlight" mode in Iray. 30 seconds, which took 48hrs to render, then comped in AE and rendered out with audio in Premiere. Sound from www.freesound.org and free music from http://incompetech.com/
That was cool!
Very cool!
hey Tim
is this hdri only ?
i know how this looks without the lighting and shaders
can you tell a bit
looks nice
Glad you like it.
There's only one light other than the HDRI. That's a small, blue point light above the central platform. (Since doing this render, I've learned how to use the geometry editor to create new surfaces. The new version now uses emission surfaces to accomplish the same thing.)
The metal shader comes from Mec4D's wonderful PBS shaders. I use these all the time and highly recommend them.
Feel free to ask any further questions.
-- Tim.
Edit: The HDRI map is called AlienRoom.hdr.
I'm annoyed I missed all the sales on Mec4D's PBS shaders, finally got around to it. Awesome stuff.
(And VERY eager to see her next shaders)
Just thought I would let anyone interested know that I heard back from the recipient of this gift render. He loved the poster! And, being so very Japanese, Shihan Demura sent me back a gift as well. A t-shirt from the big karate tournament that they were doing, at the the time, in CA. Oh, and if there are any Karate Kid fans here, the documentary "The Real Myagi" is finally for sale over on Amazon. It is about the Shihan Fumio Demura who was the karate tecnical advisor and the stunt double for all of the karate scenes for Myagi and also inspired much of the the way karate was taught in the movies because much of it is how he actually teaches his students.
These are definitely great shaders! I finally got them not long ago and, also, wished I had gotten them sooner.
edit: spelling
Thank yor RAMWolff and Knittingmommy, I'm glad you liked them, this was my first real animation done with Iray, I used to use Poser or Vue, but this works well, I just wish it had a real network render function..
A lazy afternoon with Kat.
Playing with skin shaders and other things.
Inspired by a picture I saw recently...
This is an Iray scene lit entirely from Sun/Sky and a hole in the ceiling.
Picked up 1002 Arabian Nights recently. I was surprised how well it looked simply converted to Iray Uber. I... literally did nothing, other than to do a test render and verify it looked ok. (The water was a bit more work, as well as draped outfit etc)
Very nice, Will. The reflections in the water are awesome.
@Knittingmommy That is a really great render. Did you do the godray/flare in post or in the original render?
The secret to good water reflections in Iray, I'm finding, is metallicity.
I'm sure someone can tell me why that's stupid or terrible and the best way is (equations), but... works easiest for me. ;)
@KurzonDax Thank you. That is all inside DS in Iray. I used the Expanded Godrays for Iray by Sickleyield and Marshian. It is a great product and I'm finding tons of uses for it. The only post I did in that image was to get rid of some poke thru in a couple of the gi tops that I hadn't noticed until I was already too far into the render and down to the wire with my deadline. At that point, I had to fix the the poke thru in post, but I'm getting better at it so it isn't that difficult a job to do now.
I like that, Will. That reflection looks real nice. I like the whole overall effect that you got with the lighting, too.
@TabascoJack Nice job on the render. Nice lighting coming through the blinds! I like the shadows.
One of the things I love, as I get better at Iray, is the interesting subtle lighting you can get. Sometimes. ;)
On the other hand, one of the things I MUCH prefer in 3DL is anything involving godrays or haze. EZ Fog camera makes it much faster and so easy to manage.
Picked up Stonemason's Generic Sci-Fi Corridor in a recent sale. Updated the materials to Iray, with additional use of MEC4D's PBS set.
...the 3DL version sesm to have better ambient lighting. Just my view.
I wasn't intending to do a toclafane kind of render, but it sorta looks like them.
Dystopian city block turned into Iray (I was curious how well they could be spruced up for close-up stuff). Also used Instances+ to populate the ball thingies.
...had a bit of catching up tod. Even though I'm subscribed wasn't getting any reminder emails fpor the last week or so (not just this thread either).
Lots of nice work
WIlliam, love your wood bot
Yeah both 3DL and Iray have their unique good points. Whne I want to do something that lookd more like a painting or book illustration I'll go with 3DL now that a couple scripts have been released which fix the issues with AoA's Graphic art and Atmospheric cameras.
Zilvergrafix, love your ladies, robotic and otherwise.
Again so many good works here. Hopefully the reminder thing is fixed since I got back in touch with the thread. Will be posting more myself.
Ditto, really nice job (and I'm sure painstaking) setting up the emissive surfaces.
You did a really great job with it. I had seen the expanded Godrays product before, but haven't used it myself. Might end up in my basket now at some point.
I think I'm wishlisting that godrays thing, too.
Iray just... stinks at doing godrays normally, unless you jump through a lot of flaming hoops.
@TabascoJack Really nice image and the corridor looks great. Nice work.
Will I like this. Very nice Sci Fi type image! Nicely done.
Picked up Stonemason's Generic Sci-Fi Corridor in a recent sale. Updated the materials to Iray, with additional use of MEC4D's PBS set.
Thanks! I appreciate the comments. I wish I could take more credit on the emissive surfaces, but there's only about 5 of them. Stonemason did a great job on the original in constructing it such that it re-uses a lot.
There's a single ceiling panel surface, the hallway strip lights, and 3 LED surfaces (dark red, bright red, and amber). I did add a couple of mesh lights of my own off-camera.
...yeah I find them very useful, even with Iray
I should try Stonemason's hall again. I ran into crashes and problems before, trying to use them in Iray. Upon reflection, this was probably due to that annoying metallicity bug in 4.8.
