Like I said - all we know for certain is that a DAZ spokesperson said that at that time the plan was to move to encrypted products at some future date. Well, it wasn't today. Next week? Next Month? Next year? Next decade? We have no way of knowing until either it is announced or it happens. As far as I'm concerned, it remains business as usual, until the shoe drops.
I've been extremely cautious about the G3f and G3m models and props etc. for this reason. And I have soooo much content from V4 M4 to Gen2 that if I never bought another thing I could create something different every day for the next 20 years. I LIKE to buy lots of content and different things. I put 4.9 on my PC (but not on my laptop) and for the most part am okay with it. But I will never be okay with paid for encrypted content. Freebies, I don't care because if I lose access at some point, well, they were free to begin with. But losing access to paid for content is not a chance I am willing to take (and I have had this happen elsewhere and I will not put myself in that position again if I can avoid it). And the uncertainty is definitely impacting my spending.
Well its been since Jan 16th since i bought anything here at daz.
Why you ask.? I will not use daz 4.9 as it stand now for the following reasons.
I don't want a software messing with or rearranging my file systems' especially to support a new feature I will never support even if the software is free.
I don't want a store front in my content panel in the software I am using trying to sell me content. no thanks that is to much like spamming me when i'm trying to be creative. it also takes up a line of space that could be used for other content in my own library. if i want to buy something new i will visit the store.
I do not want to be connected to DRM, cloud/server or what ever your calling it these days to support daz encrypted products. when I purchase the usage rights to content i want complete access to the content without work around to make it work in something else.
Every web site or place that sells 3d content does so without the use of DRM or encryption. they all use Zip files. even though they know there will be some priacy,
When daz done away with the installers and went to zip it was a celebrated move by a large number of people and long time artist.here . now you want to go back to some kind of wierd lock out installer .. no thanks Really ? what Einstein thought that one up..lol
Anyway,

Spending at Daz3d.com since 1/16/2016 = $00.00
Spending at other sites since 1/16/2016 = $170 +
Rpublishing has a awesome sale found some awesome stuff there.I Bought a bunch of song bird stuff at another site.i didn't even knew they had water fowl that is just awesome i got those.. then I got 4 new outfits for my g2f girls. and 1 new g2f character. Oh and i bought a pose pack that had support for v4,g2f,and g3f .wish daz sold stuff like that. . I'd tell you where I bought them.. But daz gets very jealous & uppity. when i post other sites here. .
Brilliant... when do you start working for DAZ? :)
This way would also work for me not wanting DRM on my computer. I could grab the pay encrypted products as well as the freebies and not even download until after the time period had passed when they become not encrypted. Sounds like a good plan for everyone.
And you know, I might very well buy encrypted products knowing they become unencrypted down the road. I imagine there's a fair number of us like that.
Yeah, it seems like a pretty good idea, and I could get behind it in principle. Even if I'd wait to buy, and then only buy if the unencrypted product was also distributed outside Connect and allowed rearranging directories; that'd still be my dealbreaker in that scenario (and no, I wouldn't buy encrypted content that you can rearrange freely either, even if - oddly enough - that's just what I do with Vue. Go figure...).
I could get behind a time delay...I would just stick it in my........long ...wish list and get it later
Yeah, I forgot about the sorting thing. Yeah, I'd probably wait until it was unencrypted.
Still, that's a big potential market, I imagine, and it'd automatically solve things like the poison pill and so on.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
New freebie (no encryption) - no additional purchase required - http://www.daz3d.com/wash-down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clean of DRM. *grin*
It wouldn't rearrange your files
The Store tab is on the same line as the existing Info tab and the tags tab. The whole group can be collapsed.
Then you would not connect, that is optional using non-encrypted content installed with DIM.
Well, apart from the fact that my 4.9beta install still won't allow offline installation (which might be because of my install method... so I'm not blaming DAZ for this) there are still 2 issues I know of that will impact my workflow:
- no possibility to edit/correct encrypted .duf files
- no possibility to use DSON to load fully fuctional encrypted items (clothing for genesis/genesis2 for example) in Poser. Object export/import is no alternative for that
For me, those are major issues......
Funny today I spent about $9 at Daz buying an item of clothing I wouldn't have bothered with, but a for dynamic tool available elsewhere. If features had been added to 4.9 instead of DRM, I'd likely have been buying at Daz more. But Daz needs to try this out so I'll continue to remind them it sucks, and is affecting what I spend with them.
4.9 WILL NOT REARRANGE YOUR INSTALLED CONTENT, THIS IS NOT FALSE!
Ivy, perhaps your shooting blind on this one but it sounds like your a bit off on how the store pane in smart content works. First you have to have opened that section of smart content and navigated to that pane and then have logged into the store. If your not logged in the only thing that shows is a log in screen. If someone is seeing the store they have made real effort to see it.
I know the tool your talking about I bought it a few days ago . it works a lot better than I expected.
4.9 created a complete new file system I am assuming to support DAZ connect. . now if I would have installed it to my main 3d machine it would require me to move established custom files management to accommodate that new change if I wanted to use the content pane to work as it was intended too. so yes it does change your files systems. if you want daz 4.9 to work as it was intended to support connect products.
Hi Khory all due respect. everytime i click the content pane the store icons open pane with it even if not logged in. I would take a screen shot of it but seeming i uninstalled daz 4.9 last night i can not show that example of it. . so I will need to collapse the store pane every time I open the content pane. even.when your not logged in it shows a a login icon. that is just annoying as hell.
I love daz studio as one of my tools .. just not this version sorry to many things not wanted and not enough improvements for me to inconvenience my work flow on my big machine. no offense. I just have a little different way of doing things than most.
Edit: PS the main reason I will not buy things here is because all products now says compatibilty for daz studio 4.9 and seeming i bought a products not long ago stating it was compatiable with the daz version I was using at the time and it turned out it wasn't . & Daz just refunded my money instead of fixing the bug . which was to bad because I needed to have the model for a project i was in the middle of working on and was to b e used as the main object of the scene..
So I'm not going through that again either if the product says daz/poser compatable in the product description then maybe I'll look at it, if not I'll just move on.
I have an announcement to make:
It has taken a bit of time, researching of numbers, and technical development and testing, but we feel that the jist of the idea above is not only doable, but does indeed address a significant number of concerns of Daz, the interest of the PA's, and customers. As such, Timmins, I want to say "We hear you", and furthermore "We thank you" for your suggestion.
Effective immediately we are rolling out functionality that will cause Encrypted products to become un-encrypted 12 months after launch. This will be through a process that runs on our servers and replaces the encrypted content with a non-encrypted one. Anyone who buys or updates the product after that point will get the non-encrypted version. This means that even if you buy it during that first year, at the end of the time period you will be able to get it as an update without encryption if that is of concern to you.
This change is effective now. Any encrypted content that has or will release will automatically decrypt after 12 months after its launch date.
Again, we want to thank all of you for the creative ideas, and Timmins in particular, we will be adding $1,000 store credit to you account.
The folks at Daz
Thank you daz_steve thats sounds a little more promising. I'll start building my wish list for items to buy a year for now
can you please give us a option to op out of using the daz connect file sytem in the studio software as well?
Well, holy poot.
Ok, resuming my PC membership. ;)
I do have it installed so I was able to do a screen shot for you.
Once it's de-crypted you should be able to pull them down through DIM if you would like. Also, we are almost done with development on a new content hierarchy for Content Library that should address a lot of people's concerns with wanting the old Content Library-like experience, and more flexibility with moving things around. More details to come (within weeks) on that.
12 months later? Since most of the encrypted stuff will probably be outfits for male and/or female figures, that might be a wasted of money by the end of the 12 month period. DAZ3D seems to be replacing the current figures with new ones about that often, or at least it seems that way to me. Just my observation. Even three months would seem a better option. Most sales do seem to be within the first month of release, if not less. I seem to see renders with new stuff within a day or two of release most times.
Dana
I just grabbed the canoes to download whenever they get unencrypted. :)
And yep, there's the store credit.
Thank you, Thank you ,Thank you,
I can not tell you how much I would appreciate a studio program that will just install over what I have allowing me control of my content & not requiring me to more my files around to make it work in another file management system. . Thank you, thank you, thank you, like I said I love using daz studio just not this 4,9 version the way it is now. and yes I tested it. so thank you, thank you, thank you for addressing this big concern. I really look forward to this change to be able to manage my own files and content .
I just can't say thank you enough for addressing this file management issue.
Congrats Will :)
It's a reasonable compromise. Glad to hear it. I'll be slightly less enthusiasic about it if this also means DAZ will be doing more and more initial releases as DRM only, as I won't be buying any DRM'ed stuff, which would mean I'd have to wait a while before picking up "new" stuff. Then again that will cut down on my impulse buying, so maybe it'll save me some money in the long run if it goes down that way.
This works. Restoring my PC auto-renew.
Kicked it up, from three months, to a year, as a show of faith.
