Timer on "You've been heard" thread no longer updating

Hello moderators,

I don't know if you're aware of this but the "Most recent" timer on Daz_Steve's "You've been heard. Response re: 4.9 and Encryption" thread is no longer updating since 7:50am today, even though new posts are being made.

Is this deliberate (in order to quietly hide the thread away) or is it a bug? If its deliberate wouldn't it be better to just close the thread and admit thats what you're doing? If its a bug, please consider this a bug report.

Also, considering it contains a lot of vital information from Daz_Steve that customers need to know, shouldn't it really be kept live?

  • I noticed the lack of an orange new tag yesterday and the fact it stayed on page 2 of new posts after I posted today

do you think the hidden posts have made it exceed the maximum size for the forum???????

I suppose its possible that there were so many mod-deleted posts in that thread that it simply exceeded the forum limit, but I highly doubt it. There would have to have been almost as many removed posts as there were remaining ones.

Daz_Jon did mention that they would close the thread if the discussion didn't move in a direct they approved of... but I thought they would have been more upfront about it if they were closing it off. Especially considering the important info it contains from Daz_Steve.

Even if they wanted to quietly close the thread, I really doubt DAZ or mods can affect that date easily, the "recent posts" is a feature of the forum software itself.

Thread pages display more posts than in the previous forums, so it might be too big already for the software.

As I mentioned in the doomed thread, the "Where in the World has the Forum Gremlin gone Now? Complaint Thread" has 2.8k posts and 92 pages and the timer is still updating fine. The "You've been heard" thread has only 1.6k posts and 54 pages and the timer has stopped.

    So that seems very unlikely.

Edit: Plus, we're not getting any response from the mods on this. If it was a simple issue I'm sure they would've said so.

  • Yes but that complaint thread does not have an unknown number of hidden posts

a rather large unknown number I believe

I am not speculating anything just putting forth the hypothesis that it could have broken the forum limit, this can be confirmed or denied by the staff concerned if they choose.

Didn't someone in the new X-Files series say something like "It'll probably happen on a Friday, they'll say they have to do maintennance and shut it down..."

No, I'm not going to join all this encryption and conspiracy talk.

I thought about that, but then how come we can still post new posts in the thread and how come the "1 new" indicator still works? In fact, the only thing not working (the timer) is the one thing that would otherwise keep the thread from getting buried and forgotten.

You might think 'coincidence'. I don't believe in coincidences in business wink.

I do tend to agree. Actually I don't like coincidences; they make my completely unparanoid (honest) self suspicious.

Here's an idea for you Daz. Simply state that "Speculation and paranoia have now reached untenable levels regarding the encryption/DRM issue (as evidenced by this latest thread). Therefore we will be locking the "You've been heard" thread (and this one) for good."

That way you can rid yourselves of the inconvenient negative publicity and make it sound like you're doing it for the good of the community. I r teh marketing genius! cheeky

  • I've had a moddish poke at the thread and it seems to be working now, so I am locking this thread.
