I have been trying to find a GOOD set of turnout gear for AGES!! Thank you - both of you!! I've had Billy's old M4 set for a long time, but unfortunately, it's really starting to show it's age, and it does not stand up well to the conversion pipeline.
Thank you - both of you - for getting this set out, and NOT turning it into pinup wear. Much appreciated, and instant buy.

Agreed! I'm buying this set today.
This is also on my purchase list . . .
Yeah, ditto here.
It's absolutely gorgeous! They also included a dirty version of the textures, which I greatly appreciate.
And.. it converts VERY well to other figures, too. I've got it on Genesis 1 and G2F here. The axe loaded in fairly close to where it belonged in both cases (even on Blake's Genesis 1 morphs). And it stands up well to the joint bends on Genesis 1 after conversion, too.
There's a little bit of poke-through on Genesis 1's fingers in the glove, and just a tiny bit on one thigh in this crouched position. I did not have the Fit Control morphs dialed in, but I imagine a slight adjustment to the smoothing iterations, or a very slight touch of a push modifier would deal with that poke-thru just fine.
I did apply a small touch of ONE of the Fit Control morphs to avoid the straps from the O2 tank poking too far into the turnout coat on G2F. But that was it. Overall, this thing converts very well between the figures, and stands up to even the more extreme bends. It's just a very well thought-out set, and it holds up beautifully to the conversion pipeline, so it's useful to me for a lot more than just the G2 and G3 males. :D
It's definitely worth getting. ^_^
This one was an instabuy for me as soon as I saw it. I'd been trying to fit that old M4 set to a kid figure and was getting nowhere fast. The stars aligned and gave me just what I needed, when I needed it!
And thanks for making a G2 version as well. Perfect for those of us who still use Poser and cannot migrate to G3 yet! Much appreciated.
Thanks for the first real world firefighter uniform since Michael 4, instead of some skimpwear cos-play equivalent. Going into my library on general principal and to show appreciation.
I also have been waiting for an updated version of a fire fighter’s outfit. Even thou this is a great model, I had concern with the helmet. So by merging Billy-T’s helmet and texture opacity, I am now happy to now expand my scenes.
Merged the two thank you threads.
Yes bought it because G2M too.
I use Carrara, anything not Genesis 3 is always appreciated though I have gotten better at converting the g3m stuff to have it ready to go without needing to fluff around in DS is much better.
How does the firefighter see through the faceshield on the Oxygen Tank? The clean textures render almost completly opaque in Iray. I looked back at the promos, and they look like that, too. It this what was intended?
I agree. I had this problem too. I think the heat face shield looks a bit dark.. In the promo you can see a hint of eye but in my render it looked really blank there. You can adjust the opacity some but I wish there was a slightly more transparent textur for that particular area so that you can see more of the face, whether it is authentic or not.
I've read that Iray opacity masks should be black and white, with only a small bit of gray in the transition areas between black and white. (True??) This is using a predominantly gray opacity mask in the Iray Cutout Opacity. It looks to me like the 3Delight opacity masks were used in the Iray materials. The "clear" part of the face shield and the black border are all one surface, so changing just the clear part is more difficult. I can't just apply a nice Mec4D shader, for example, if I want to retain that black border part.
As a workaround, you can use the image editor in the Surfaces pane to open the Cutout Opacity image and increase the gamma from 1 to something like 2.2. That will make it a little less opaque.
I couldn't get results I liked with the product materials, so I finally changed the face shield surface to use translucency and refraction. I deleted that cutout opacity mask. I based my settings of Mec4D PBS Shaders Vol 2, Plastic Tin (she meant Thin), but I used the original oxygen tank normal map and bump map. Now my firefighter can see where he is going!
I rendered two images - visor up and visor down.
Edit: Since the face shield is all one surface, I lost the black border by doing this. Since the helmet covers it, I didn't worry about it too much. With the helmet off, I'd probably have to get out the geometry editor and try to separate it into two surfaces.
I'm sorry but I would have bought this had it been British!
that looks good.. I admit I'm disappointed in that texture area. I had figured out what exactly to try to fix it. If it is using 3delight textures though maybe a service request needs to be submitted to fix the issue
That appears to make it worse. Here is cutout opacity 2.
yeah, tried it. It makes it whiter for me. If the rubber and the shield part weren't the same piece this is a no-brainer. Retexture it with a clear or plastic item.
Now cutout opacity of less than 1 is helpful. That has results similar to raising the gamma on the image map (which I suggested above). It still isn't as good as using good PBR materials, but it is a workaround.
Here is cutout opacity 0.2.
Edited to add: reducing the cutout opacity or increasing the image map gamma still affects both the clear and black areas of the face shield, so this workaround really only works when you have the helmet on.
Ha! I like your composition!
We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this is a really nice product, and you can tell that a lot of work went into it.
Thanks! I did think it was appropriate pose for that. I'm doing a test render of the shield at .2 to see how that looked. I didn't like the shield recolored with iray glass.
My honest opinion of the set: I like the concept of the set, but there are a fair amount of issues. I find that the belt distorts and warps easily (the buckle, ugh) and there is clipping with the gloves and the sleeves and also pokethrough in the chest and arms area. Thethermostat sticks through the torso and the loop it is supposed to be restrained by in even the tamest poses.
So good concept, nice textures, except for the shield, not sure it works for me structurally. I'm not keen on the structural warping I see in even the most mundane poses. Yes, I can fix some of it, but firefighters are supposed to be action guys so the suit should not clip quite so much.
I did this test render at the lower percentage, but I still can't see the eyes in the shield.
I'm really not keen on the face shield texture or the texture clipping. A little I can deal with but the way the chest pieces go through the chest on a standing position don't make me happy. The belt distortion is also an issue. I'm going to render it a few times and see- but I've found in the past I don't tend to use outfits that looked warped and I've kept them- mostly military outfits with belts, and distorted weird grendades.. And if it warps while the character is just standing there, then... IDK seems like it would look really bad when the character is rescuing granny from the burning building.
That harness is floating :O
Well, despite its shortcomings I can't really return it because the purchase triggered getting a number of bundles for $2.10 each (instead of $7 each). If I returned it I would owe DAZ an extra $7+ to cover the increased cost of the bundles
I think you should report the issues and hopefully get them fixed, then maybe more care would be taken with future male items
Sadly I have found that male items especially those with belts tend to be problematic and prone to deformation. In this case the set seems to have problems when larger Males such as Gianni and bodybuilder and even m7 are added to the figure shape. It deforms less when used on base male
