I shall admit I am the "bad" sort of player.  I buy (or receive) games, get addicted and play as much as I can for awhile and then get bored.  I think I have only finished 1 game.  Faovorites have included (but not limited to) Wasteland (the original), Myst, Bards Tale 1,2,& 3 (looking forward to the new one), Might and Magic series, World of Warcraft, Flip Words 2, Diablo 3, and Zen.those are on the PC.

On my tablet and/or phone I am currently active in Jurassic World, Shop Heroes, Solitaire, Pokemon Go (blame a friend for this), Zombie Castaways, and Fishdom.

But my current favorite is getting together with my friends and doing D&D or Hero Systems (either Champions or Fantasy Hero).  Computers are used for either the Characters, or for Roll 20 to play with those who are far away.

Oops forgot to add that we also have the Playstation 2 and Wii which are occasionally used, but not nearly as much any more.

Since quite a few of you play games on PC, I'm releasing a new game later today or tomorrow for PC, would anyone like to play it?

I'd be happy to give away a few download keys for free once it's live in store.

    http://www.evolutionary.co.za/danyiri.html

It's a puzzle/arcade hybrid - unqiue, cute, fun and gets really difficult if you play it on expert.

I was never into MMO games or shooters. My daughters had their PlayStation games like all the Kingdom Hearts iterations, and one interesting one called Shadow of the Colossus. That one was fun.

Before I had a home computer or console, there were some high end graphics workstations at work we had some games on. These were $50K-100K machines from the likes of SGI, Sun and Apollo. The SGI flight sim was pretty accurate on the physics, but the graphics weren't great. They used an SGI as the mission simulator for the B2. Not the actual flight simulator, but the mission simulator. The big thing on that machine was the zoom climb contest. Chuck Yaeger almost bought it trying to beat the Russian record in the zoom climb. This was depicted in the movie The Right Stuff. In the sim, you select the F-14, take it up to about 45-50,000 feet, hit max thrust, to get to max speed, then go vertical. I regularly hit 100,000 feet and brought the plane down dead stick. The actual record is still held by a Russian Mig-25 at 118,900 feet. Oof! The flight sim on the Sun machines allowed dogfights and team play, but we were only allowed to run it after hours. The graphics had actual satellite data which makes places like the SF Bay Area and the Grand Canyon really impressive. The physics had some bugs, but it worked well. The plane of choice was the FA-18. On the Apollo, we had a Battle Zone clone using vector graphics. It was just your tank against the computer. Once I had a home computer, I used to play Chuck Yaeger's Trainer game, and Stunt Island. These were DOS games.

I gave up on flight sims after getting into auto racing. I mean real auto racing. I intend to get out to the track again this fall. I found a Papyrus game called Grand Prix Legends that is astounding considering it was written in 1998. There is an active community of modders making the game play even better. The "spa67" track for Spa Francorchamps is incredible in detail. The same guys who produced Grand Prix Legends are now running iRacing.com which is an online racing game. It's basically the same physics engine. I've played GT5, but I keep going back to GPL. In the first video, there are some comments about the lighting and shadows in GPL. Basically, there is no lighting model. Everything is baked into the textures. They did a real good job of it, tho.

I'm mostly an open-world RPG gamer.  I like games that let me customize and control my character's appearance as much as possible.  My long-term favorites are Morrowind, Oblivion, to a lesser extent Skyrim, Fallout 3 and 4 (I've been a very faithful Bethesda Softworks customer over the years), always with a lot of mods.  In fact, modding for ES IV: Oblivion is how I got my start in 3D!

I've also enjoyed Mass Effect 1 and 2 and, less usually for me, Bioshock 1 and 2 (neither shooters nor horror games have been a huge thing for me, but these are just beautiful, immersive experiences).  I like Minecraft, too.  I used to be more into RTS games back in the day, but then my beloved Warcraft diverged from that genre into creating MMOs as a thing, and Disciples III really wasn't up to II in terms of gameplay.  I could never get into semi-real RTS like the C&C/Civilization series.  I played a lot of Sims 2 for a while.  Diablo I and II are also outliers that I've really enjoyed.

I play the odd indie from Steam, including Torchlight, 7 Days to Die and Goat Simulator (I steer away from the overly edgy/depressing ones like Binding of Isaac and Limbo).

And right now I'm massively addicted to Pokemon GO.  I am terribly sunburned and exhausted but today I got a Snorlax and it was like... I don't know.  I've never done drugs.  But they're probably a similar feeling.

  • Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2 and City of Heroes were the last games i played; I was one of the first folks to figure out how to mod Dragon Age 2 and did a guest appearance on the Dragon Age Podcast around that time. I have played other games as well, but none recently.

Who here likes to play horror games?

    Fatal Frame series.

    Silent Hill.

Dead Space (original. Isaac died in the first game, they never should have continued along his story arc).

    Layers of Fear.

    etc...

...as well as a multitude of zombie games.

The Final Fantasy series, Bauldur's Gate, and pretty much most fantasy games. I've been gaming for many years and I'm a 14 year MMO vet - MMOs are by far my favorite. I love making online friends and taking on big badies with them. Epic dungeons and big fights with a group of gaming friends - there's nothing much like that feeling! :) I've played dozens upon dozens of MMOs over the years. My first MMO was Final Fantasy XI which I played for 3+ years. I've played many MMOs in between then and now, my last MMO being Guild Wars 2. I haven't played in months though and I HOPE that I'm done playing games. I think 14 years is a good stretch and when I think back about all the countless hours, days, weeks, even months I've spent leveling characters that will eventually get deleted once the servers goes down, it kind of makes me think about all that time wasted that I could have spent working on improving my artistic skills or something else that will help me advance in life. I've taken "breaks" from gaming before but usually get sucked back in - I really hope this time that it STICKS and that I'm finally retired from gaming. I want to spend my time focusing on my art career and improving artistically.

As much as I love gaming and games, I do hope that I'm finally retired from gaming. It's time for me to focus on my art and when I get into gaming I tend to spend FAR too many hours doing nothing but gaming. And I need to admit that, for me, that's not conducive to my long term goals. I know though that my experience is different from others experience, and what is good for me may not be good for the next person. So while gaming can be awesome and good for someone else, for me it's just not good for what I have planed for the future. But then I tend to have an addictive personality, and while others can probably play in moderation, I know myself well enough to know that I can't really do that.

I mostly play indie games these days, aside from XCOM. The straw that broke my back for AAA games was Fallout 4. :(

Dex is a really good Cyberpunk sidescroller... Tharsis is creepy but really challenging.

Limbo is a Grimms Brothers fairy tale that was written into a screenplay by an absinthe feuled Hans Christian Anderson and filmed by Ingmar Bergman after his fourth marital divorce.

It will give a grown man a case of the heebie jeebies.

    I only play on PC.

The games I still play and run again.

    - RPG and MMORPG : Skyrim, Aion, Mass Effect 3 (what a depressive ending!), DC Universe, Riders of Icarus, Dragon Age Inquisition 3 (Seems I never will finish that game), Final Fantasy XIV, Fallout 4

    - Life Simulators and similar : Sims 4, Entropia Universe, EVE, Second Life

    Games I liked but don't play anymore : Dragon Age 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Sims 3, City: Skylines, Fallout 3 and New Vegas

When I look for new games I mostly look for RPGs or MMORPGs, TPS, Good character buillding, Open worlds, Good scenario, Moding (Some games like Skyrim really need moding). My free time is split between 3D graphics and gaming. Gaming still wins but 3D graphics grows bigger and bigger :)

I ADORE good horror games.  My faves have been F.E.A.R (the first, and the two expansions, not FEAR 2 or 3, which were nowhere near as good), Call of Cthulhu DCOTE (when it wasn't crashing), the Penumbra and Amnesia series (though I prefer games where you CAN fight back, even if it is very dangerous to), and I'm currently going through SOMA.  Left4Dead is always fun, and I recently picked up Layers and Outlast.

Fallout 4. Incredible game. I never played many games at all, but being from Boston I asked for this for Christmas. Thouroughly hooked.

I owned and operated a Commodore only computer store 1986-1993. Sold the 64, 128 and all Amigas.

Lol; most horror movies aren't as horrifying as they could be. The only movie that has truly bothered me much to watch is Blade, and it's mostly the part where Deacon Frost traps the main character in that chamber to cut him so Frost can "ascend".

I just got finished with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag even though it's been out a few years. I'm slowly getting back into gaming and I love JRPGs and action fighters myself. Hell, I currently working on my own little hybrid of Rune Factory and Final Fantasy Tactics. Grids, grids, grids... ;)

Wow... A whole store for Commodores... I've only heard tell of such things in the songs of the wandering minstrels and ramblings of the drunks under the overpass. That was probably way cooler than an Apple Store (or at least before Macs became trendy).  Back in the Commodore days, in NYC, they were only really found in places that sold other brands as well, and what was in stock was hit and miss.

I must get the address of that place for when I fix my time machine... And depending on whether or not I find it or wreck another timeline... I was the guy in the gorilla costume eating the sack of honey dipped donuts... Sorry about getting honey all over everything, but it's hard to neatly eat donuts in a gorilla costume.

And if you know the guy who owned the donut shop... Tell him I said sorry about the toilet.

Radio Shack was the original Apple Store. Sure it traded in the epiglottis-pierced,former-barista, aloof, smug, patchouli smelling hipster for someone who lived (read: Played D&D) in their moms basement and had bad skin, but those early Tandy computers had serious game. The "trash 80" schooled the Vic 20's and the 2600's of the day. The first time I played lunar lander I had never seen pixels so small that they seemed to vanish if you stood more that 25 feet away from the screen, it was 320x200 in all it's monochrome glory.

When I found out computers (e.g. the things with keyboards) and not just gaming consoles (e.g the things with joysticks that dogs often mistook for liv-a-snaps) could be used for gaming that was it.

I used to play MMOs a lot until I started up with Daz Studio. I think, looking back, that farting around with characters and whatnot was my way of satisfying a frustrated urge to create visually.

As a consequence, I haven't really played much over the past two years... however I'm REALLY looking forward to No Man's Sky.

My thing is, I play games for escapism, and I don't really enjoy risk/reward schemes that most have; life is frustrating enough without a game telling you how much you suck.

  • These days I'm doing a lot of Witcher 3, Uncharted 4 and Far Cry 4 on the PS4, and waiting for Tomb Raider 2(ish) to get to it.  Need to kill time while the computer renders things.

When I'm using the computer for things besides renders, currently I'm getting into Banished, which is like simcity with worker allocation instead of money.

I also play a lot of pathfinder and other table-top RPGs.  In fact, my main use for DAZ is character portraits for my RPGs.

I've been a life long gamer starting at a very early age. I started on a second hand Atari 2600. And I would eventually get the 7800, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, and PS3. I have nearly all of these systems in arms reach inside my TV shelf right now. I even have a CRT TV handy for true old school goodness when I want. Yeah, cable are everywhere, its madness, and thankfully my wife is understanding. However I probably play emulators more often when I go old school nowadays because of ease of use. I also have over 350 Steam games, and a number are old console games that I already had.

I played Asteroids until the score counter reset, multiple times, over the course of a day. I finally just quit, and this experience sort of killed the child me on games that had no endings. I also liked Joust, Pit Fall and Galaxian. I had Mario Bros on the 7800, yes, that existed.

But the NES was when I truly fell in love with the medium. As the only child in a lonely neighborhood, there wasn't a whole lot to do. I play Super Mario 1, and beat Tecmo Super Bowl with all 28 teams multiple times (Still the best American football game ever made...check out Knobbe.org for updated Tecmo roms with all 32 teams and current rosters!.) So many Konami classics like Contra, Graduis, the TMNT series, and others. Mega Man!!! And the first Legend of Zelda, I loved that game and its music so much. Oh, and Double Dragon 2 and River City Ransom was brilliant. BARF! And I was a bad enough dude to rescue the President. Many times in fact.

The SNES16 bit era featured some of the greatest RPGs ever, from Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (now called 4 and 6) Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and others (Squaresoft was on fire back then.) Super Metroid, Street Fighter 2 series, Final Fight series, and more. I grabbed a Genesis late, but I loved the Streets of Rage series and its music.

The Playstation era brought along Destruction Derby, I loved the suicidal Death Bowl matches in that game. And of course, Metal Gear Solid gave us card board boxes to sneak around in while listening to wacky conspiracy theories. Bushido Blade was a riot. There were 2 great Final Fantasies, and a decent one (8.) I couldn't afford a PC at that time, so this was where I first found Doom. The N64 might just be my favorite console of all time, in large part due to its 4 controller ports. There were so many great 4 player games on that thing. Goldeneye, which was completely surpassed by Perfect Dark (yes, completely.) Mario Kart 64, Mario Tennis, and all the AKI made wrestling games, which included WWF No Mercy, still the best wrestling game ever made. Winback was like a goofy MGS arcade game, in fact, it improved some of MGS's cover features and in turn inspired other cover based games. And your evil terrorist organization is called...The Crying Lions. Come on, you have to admit how awesome that is. The game has one of the most wacked out voice overs in history, look up the intro.

The PS2 era introduced us to Dynasty Warriors. Yes, I am a total sucker for DW games and their spin offs. I love the awful voice acting. I love taking on hordes of enemies at once. That was I loved about Doom. Time Splitters1/2 were fantastic. Who doesn't like Virus or Monkey Tag? We need a new Time Splitters. Disgaea killed your free time. The Gamecube had more great Mario spin offs. Tales of Symphonia has special place in my heart. The Xbox gave us the greatness of KOTOR.

I played a lot of Gears of War on the 360. I enjoyed the Horde modes the most, but I played other stuff too. Tales of Vesperia is great. I absolutely fell in love Mass Effect and its universe. To me, it is a new generation of Star Wars (which makes sense given the devolper's history with KOTOR.) And while ME3 may not have the best ending ever, the journey is what is important, and boy does Mass Effect have a great journey. I played the ME3 multiplayer for well over 1,000 hours between the 360 and PC with just that mode. Something about it just captivated me. I even ran lobbies with other frequent people online, something I never do with other games. I usually only play online with personal friends, and I prefer to play coop games the most.

Along this time I finally built a PC myself from junk parts, and upgraded that over time. I have a sexy metal blue case that dates back to 2002. They don't make them quite like this anymore, most cases are either too plain or too ridiculous now. There's not much of a middle ground imo. Anyway, as I've gradually upgraded my PC, I've collected over 350 games on Steam, and more on GOG and Mass Effect 3 on Origin. I modded the crap out of Skyrim, because lets face it, Skyrim is BORING without mods. I modded Skyrim to have 5 followers, which makes the game feel much more like a real adventure party, and seriously, why would the world's savior be wondering around alone like that?Saviors need a posse. I also updated the graphics and probably modded every single NPC in the game. Vanilla Skyrim (and Bethesda games in general) is just...fugly. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are always good for a spin, and even better with a cast of anime survivor characters. I still giggle at the Miku Witch, who pouts so adorably in Japanese. The Beavis voiced Jockey is the best Jockey mod ever. The Dio Brando Hunter is absurd and brilliant. And what better song could you have for the get away music than Until My Body Is Dry??? You can't beat that. I get pumped to get to the chopper when I hear that tune. I still play this once in a while, especially if I spot a mod that interests me. Right now I'm rocking a Thundercats sword. Oh yeah.

Which brings me to what I am playing right now. Payday 2. Yep, a game that's been out for like 3 or 4 years. I haven't played it all those years, I just recently picked it up. But it covers the things I like most, coop, shooting, rpg-ish elements, and it has strategy. I picked up Tales of Zesteria on the recent Steam sale and look forward to cracking that one open soon.

I don't game quite like I used to. But I still keep up with gaming news and watch things like E3. I'm not really even sure what inspired me to try this Daz3d thing, though it being free was a big reason. I found I kind of liked it. And now I spend the money I usually spend on games on Daz stuff instead. So I guess Daz must have done something right to pull me in like that. I believe Daz should be listed on Steam, they'd blow up their user base over night with one front page feature. Anybody interested in making a visual novel could potentially pick up Daz.

By the way, anybody who uses emulators, Steam, GOG and a bunch of other game portals might be interested in LaunchBox. LaunchBox is just a way to organize all your games into one place. But it does this so beautifully, and it is completely (and I do mean completely) customizable. Just check out this latest build of LaunchBox to see what I'm talking about. You will not find any gaming portal out there that offers this kind of flexibility that looks this good. Its like opening up a museaum when you start up LaunchBox. Its also FREE, and has a $20 version that offers a few extra features. But the free version has just about everything already.

Seriously, you could entertain yourself just flipping through your game libraries!

Would anyone be interested in participating in a Daz Studio Game just for fun?

I was thinking we could create a hidden object game where everyone who wants to participate creates a page as follows:

    1. Render a scene with + - 20 objects that are part of the scene but somewhat hidden on it - any theme of your choosing. Put your name / logo in the scene somewhere.

    2. Render the + - 20 objects in .png format separately in the same size as they appear on the page.

    3. Render the scene without the objects in them.

As they click / find the objects on the page they are removed until they end up with a page with all the objects removed. The page with all the objects in them is for me to know where to place them. If they are partially obscured by another object then that object has to rendered separately as well so that I can place it over the object.

    Choose your format:

Name the objects - i.e. they get a list of names and they must find them based on the list of names.

Outline - I show a dark outline of your objects and they must find them based on the outline.

Cryptic clues - create a list of questions where the object they must find is the answer to the clue.

There would be as many scenes as people interested in participating.

Any takers?  It would initially be for PC only.

On My PC I'm now replaying Arkam Asylum and the Mass Effect trilogy, my motherboard died right after I finished two and wiped all my save games, so I never got around to playing the last game in the trilogy.   On my PS2 I've got Persona 4 loaded in and I'm going through my second playthrough.  At work I've got Max Payne 3 stashed away on the network for when I'm doing overtime and no ones around jajaja.

I played quarter arcade games as a child but like comics I was soon priced out of that market. I then have played as a guest at others' homes for short times whatever games they liked, those being, eg WWF based or Guitar Hero, and was thoroughly trounced.

I've played Wolf 3D and Doom besides those and only completed Wolf 3D on my PC. I did play Farmville & Cityville on Facebook but they got carried away with trying to charge for everything so I stopped playng. It didn't help that Zynga's inventory and ledger system seems like it was written by cleptomaniacs.

On mobile devices while I've downloaded a few games I've only really liked ports of a few arcade games (eg Q-Bert, Pac-Man, Pole Position), Cube Runner, and Zynga's Looney Tunes Dash. I made a point not to buy anything from Zynga though this time around. I played them till I got tired of them and when I play them again or try a new game I don't know. I don't search for new games to play, that's why I have such a short list. Usually someone I know has to ask me if I've played and ask me in person for me to try a new game. Those games are usually fun.

Right now Final Fantasy XII (again). PlayStation 2 was my last console.

Usually, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, but I like horror and RPG in general.

Now I mostly play phone games. :/
