Metadata Updated

Just out of curiousity...... when I start Daz3D and click on Connect    The program downloads "metadata" and will finish by saying "Metadata Updated"...   What is metadata???

Metadata is the list of products, their contents and categories. Each product you own has a seaparate piece of metadata, and anytime you let DS connect to Daz it is sent all the product metadata that has changed or been added since your last connection. The metadata is used for the list of products in Smart Content, installed and otherwise, and to determine where and when the products and files appear in Smart Content and in the products and Categories lists of the Content Library.
