...well, if you can only render in CPU mode (and don't have a lot of CPU cores/threads), it isn't always the fastest unless you keep your your scenes and lighting fairly simple.

Emissive lighting, while easy to set up, can actually be more of a drain on render time and interior scenes take a lot longer then exterior ones.  Totte used the Iray shader set for Jack Tomalin's The Library  which included emissive lights for all the light fixtures and he said it took something like 48 hours to render in CPU mode on a 3.4 GHz i7 with 16 GB of physical memory.  That is longer than I'd like to have my system tied up.

You can render in both CPU and GPU, so if you have any cores in an Nvidia card at all, they will be used.  I've done that.  My card only has 8 cores.

It is, but you quoted my post, instead of MistyMist's.  :-)  Makes me look like I did it and I didn't.  :-)

I still say...IRay is awesome.  PBR materials are more realistic than non-PBR.  IRay uses PBR.  Real world environments, with the ability to alter skin tone...can provide lights or extra photometric (I think) lights can be added.  The best of all possible worlds.  Yes, indeed, I do love a real PBR engine.  :-)

But you all think what you want to.  If I get strung out on PBR versus non-PBR, we'll all tie up fighting, as we all did on another forum.  It'll branch out and the mods will have to come and calm everybody down and...lord have mercy...I might better skip all that. angel

Okay, I did not fight with my mama, in case somebody thought that was rude.

...mine only has 1GB of memory so even the geometry will be too much as it is also running the displays.

That's all mine has, too.  But mixing the two to do the render does help.  Try it!

...I heard from some using CPU and GPU is actually slower, but hey, why not?  Give it a test run tomorrow when I get up.

like Dr McCoy used to say, "i'm a doctor not a ..."

complainttt - omnifreaker's uber light sets not working in DS4.8, or not what i'm used to in 4.6.

render mode set to 3Delight, Loaded Leo7pro(heheh), applied his 3de shaders. kept rendering black,
whiskey tango, what is goin on ?
weirder thing his eyes were rendering nomal light, but his skin was in the dark.  dunno if it's the lights or his 3de skin shader sucks majorly..  my quick fixer-upper was to close his eyes.

ended up cranking 2 uber spotlights to 200%intensity, positioned them close to subject..
rendering some Leo7(prowink) nooooood  tee hee. 6000pxby4000px.
will put him on my DA when done.

I don't play to lotto. I have more important things to spend my money on. I just don't have the extra that I can use.

maybe there iz some ambient turned on on some shader somewhere, you can see if you kill all the lights and render :)
