I apologize as I know this has been answered before.

Where is the existing CMS datablase kept?

    You can see the location, assming you are using PostgreSQL, by going to Edit(Windows)/DAZ Studio(Mac)>Preferences and looking at the Cluster Directory path in the CMS Settings tab.
