Seems to me they skipped doing a new figure during the PA and PC sales last year. And then they released Michael 7 almost immediately after the PC sale had come to an end. (But don't trust my memory... It has more holes than my grandmother's sieve.)

Nope - Josie appeared in September marketed as "Josie is now part of the PA sale!" and then Arabella was part of the PC+ sale in October.

    lol... Like a sieve!

I only really remember because that PA sale was the first one I started paying attention to xD I bought stuff before that but had no idea that there were sales and deals to be had.

A month?! Holy cow, I'm definitely gonna go over budget. I bought a lot of stuff already that wasn't even on my radar.

It'll run right into the PC+ sale next month too (or did last year.)

which pretty much ran into Black Friday / Cyber Monday into the xmas sale...

Last year this time of year was pretty much endless promotions.

My wallet cried out in pain last year :D

Mine is still AWOL, I did find my credit card fortuneately.

I've enjoyed my shopping by adding them, then removing them; I have something (two) I'm waiting for and I've enough credit for those; nothing more until they do another gift card - at a high discount.

Not many items in mega fast grab today, so my at least some respite for people's wallets

I'm doing well this sale - only bought one thing LOL! the megagrab stuff isn't interesting me at all, luckily. Saving money, yay! :D

I got Aiko 7 when she was in mega fast grab along with a couple of other items from my wishlist to trigger maximum duiscounts. But other than that I haven't boght much. I probably would have bought more if there had been a gift card sale; but as it is I am hoarding what little store credit I have left so I can use it on a couple of other items I really need and thatalmost njever go on sale.

  • Anyone still remembers how the PC+ Sale was working.

Background of the question: does it make sense to postpone the  purchase of the new PC+ stuff until the PC+ Sale starts?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

No, not the new products. Nab them now if you want them. The PC sale is generally on older (not "new") products, along with some new stuff I think. But anything still marked "new" probably won't make it into the sale.

I already had Aiko 7, otherwise yeah, I would have nabbed her. Now if Rune or Kalea turn up in the megagrab, or even Ivan, then I'll be excited. But as it is so far, nothing in the megagrab is tempting me AT ALL since it started.

Me either. I missed Aiko and that was all that interested me so far. I've not bought anything since the sale started. It's weird, usually I find at least a couple things to get excited about, but so far the sale (at least for me) has been pretty "meh". As I told Ati, I think maybe the wonderful stacking discounts we'd been getting has spoiled me. There are not any stacking discounts so far with the PA sale and so that's just not giving the kind of discounts that usually motivate me to pounce.

The thing with the big monthly sales is that they tend to be more measured regular discounts that are better than standard, with a few highlight days.

In between the super stacking of random daily releases appears unexpectedly every so often but isn't really a reliable way to get products you want; it's more opportunity, etc.

The crazy stacking will usually give better deals but you have to work to find them and you don't get to pick what they work on. The big monthly sales like the PA sale offer more moderate discounts - but those discounts are on all new products and also an absolute ton of artist catalogues.

Thankfully, I don't do G3, so my wallet is fairly safe.

Though the http://www.daz3d.com/expressions-for-tween-ryan-7 had my giggling. That promo image of sullen tween... man.

Yes, it's pretty much the only way to get discounts on PAs that *never* go on sale or on new products that you want right away. :)

Yes, I don't know about all this talk about there not being good deals, I guess it depends what people's expectations are.

Getting Terra Dome 3 and other new stuff for 76% off, and Urban Sprawl and Chinatown for 64%, and also some wishlist stuff from a few others that never goes on sale, was pretty awesome to me. I didn't think I would be able to get such good deals on new stuff and Stonemason stuff especially. I've been very happy with this sale just for those items alone.

I guess that's a mater of opinion. I'm not that into pouncing on the new things simply becuase they are new. To me, 60% isn't really that great of a dicsount considering how expensive many of the items are. Maybe it's just because I'm fairly new, but everything I've decided I wanted I could find an older version that was just as good (might need a couple mintutes of converting to Iray) that can be gotten for a much lower cost. Again, that's just my opinion/personal preference - I know there are people who are perfectly happy paying the higher prices for the new shineys, and there isn't anything wrong with that. It's their money and they can spend it however they want to. :)  For me though it's not worth the higher "new shiney" price when, with a little patience, most of those things go on a better sale later and can save one quite a bit of money.

  • Ohhh sh*t!

What a sale today.... I could clear about 70-80% of my wishlist (almost everything not still considered "new")... this is really going to be tough to decide what to get and what to leave.

Especially since I shot a used EVGA 980 TI SC on ebay yesterday for 350€ (which is great but cuts into my budget...)

  • NathNath Posts: 2,940

Yeah, I could clean out a lot of my wishlist too; been putting stuff in my cart, going 'nah... don't need it right now', and clearing the cart again.

  • I need gift card sale before this catch up. ><

  • BlueIreneBlueIrene Posts: 1,318

I've got a couple of things in my cart as well, but can't bring myself to add any more or checkout. I've seen Daz too often have a 'last chance to spend all your beans' sale, only for them to release something new and unmissable the very next day! :)

  • 3Diva3Diva Posts: 11,970

Ahhhh This is awesome!! So many choices! :D I finally decided to go with a couple things I had on my wish list. Ended up getting two mini bundles - both free because of my $6 coupon. I'm tempted to use my other coupon and knock a few more wants of my wish list. These prices aren't likely to come around again for a while.

I can't wait to render with my new a goodies! YAY!

    Grabbed a couple of things.

Passed on all the 35% to 45%

DAZ has to break at least 50% on older items to get my attention this month.

Too many lovely new things making me sigh.

  • Heh, there's still 1860 items in the Mega Fastgrab and 225 items in my wishlist, and none of them overlap.

The smorgasboard was another matter.  There was a lot of DA items in there that came to 68% off.  Sadly the budget couldn't cover all of them.

I'm wondering if I should just stop buying anything and save up for a good Windows PC. A lot of these products take soooo long to tender on my high end 32GB RAM Mac, that I may even return them, specifically the TerraDome for DS with the add-ons. If I do, maybe they'll go back on sale by the time I can afford a second computer. Getting frustrated how many Daz products (Bryce, Mimic, big DS renders) don't work on a Mac, but I love my Mac for everything else. You can even get G3 to work in Poser on a Windows PC, but have to jump through hoops to get it to work on a Mac. I always thought Macs were more for creative people and Windows was more for corporate business stuff. Anyway, I don't want to start a Mac vs Windows flame war, but I'm just getting frustrated and venting...

You are not alone. But, sadly, I don't think this will be changing any time soon. As a long time mac user, I recently purchased a windows computer for rendering and don't expect to buy another mac. I'll probably just switch to linux for my main and use the windows thing only when I render stuff. Luckily, I probably have 2 or 3 years before that time comes. Maybe by then someone will fire Jonny Ive so that apple actually makes useable computers once again;)

Oh, and I don't even want to get into the iPhone 7 without a headphone jack issue...!  Can you recommend a good PC configuration just for rendering and a guess at the cost? I know NOTHING about Windows PCs. Anyone feel free to PM me if this is too OT for this thread. :)

I was really surprised to see a catchup sale so soon. But doing the math, this is actually day 11 of the sale. And if they end the sale on the 30th, they can have three catchup sales of one day duration every 11 days. Of course, that doesn't mean anything... it could be the end of the month before the next catchup.

For those of you new to this hobby, take note that the discounts in the catchup are not quite as good. The point being, don't wait for the catchup sale to buy something you really want.

  • Macintosh really lost their momentum with photoshop, 3D rendering, and other graphic intensive roles over the last 5 years. They simply weren't refreshing their hardware fast enough to keep up with the changes happening in the PC world - and - Mac users were able to extend their own hardware refresh cycles LONGER because they usually had machines that were cutting edge/state of the art when they first bought them, with very few concessions... (like your 32GB Mac... 32GB is still fairly rare to encounter in the PC world... even on a brand new PC...)

It is part of the PC slowdown in general... no war here.... they're BOTH built on Intel processors and Nvidia GPUs... same thing other than the OS and some rudimentary BIOS differences... The entire industry has had a downturn... and Apple basically took a wait and see approach to upgrading their hardware lines... and now that is hurting because PCs are better able to accomodate emerging technologies. Which is part of being generic, open ended, and not controlled by one company. That is the ADVANTAGE over Apple - but it is also the liability.

Here is what I paid at the beginning of the year for a medium high end machine (In Euro)

    350.- CPU

280.- Motherboard (Good one with the possibility to run 3-4 GPUS you can get that cheaper if you plan with one GPU Only maybe 150.-)

    70.- Housing

270,- Power Suppy (1500 Watt to run 3-4 GPUs, if you only want 1 you can get this around 100.-)

    500.- 64GB Ram

2 x 970s GPUs for 370.- each  (You can get Used 980 Ti for around the same price on Ebay now that all whant to get the Pascal GPUs)

    I reused 2 SSDs i allready had.

So without GPUs and SSDs I paid around 1500.-

If you take the single GPU approach and only 32 GB RAM (enough if you render in  the GPU and dont multitask to much) you can get it for slightly under 1000.-

If you add a Used 980TI and a SSD or Hardrive you can get a pretty good render machine around 1500,-

OK thanks, all of that is way over my head, but something I can discuss with a PC Connection sales person when configuring the PC. I kind of doubt I'll be able to get anything under $2,000 though, I'm guessing it could be much higher than that because I'll need a new monitor too... And then I have to figure out where to put an extra PC LOL... Need an extra table/small desk, more external hard drives... How can I quickly come up with like $4,000 extra dollars????

I think this is the one I bought: http://www.asus.com/us/Tower-PCs/G11CD/

Be sure to get one configured with the best card you can afford. I think it comes in a few different options.

I bought it last year around black friday, and it was about the same price as building a similar computer (though, I probably would have had gotten a few things that were better buying by piece). It's quiet and pretty stable. I think my biggest disappointment is having Windows 10 Home. Because of that, it doesn't do Windows Remote Desktop, so I have to use VNC to control it from the mac. That doesn't work flawlessly, so I have to keep the machine's mouse on my desktop to control certain parts of DS that go crazy when I use my mac mouse to manipulate certain dials. I almost never have to actually connect the monitor on that machine, which is nice.

That's actually how it used to be. But these days Windows gets more support with many different art programs (more than is supported with Mac). Gone are the days that Mac is the artists computer, it's just more practical these days to go with the platform that has the most programs and support. I've had this discussion with my husband, and because his generation grew up with Mac being the preferred artist's computer he had trouble making the switch or believing that things have changed that much, but sadly for Mac lovers it has. Anyway, no flaming here, I love Macs - Windows just pulled ahead over the past few years in keeping up with supporting all the tools that artists need to get the job done. Mac may come back swinging, and I hope it does, but for today, Windows is the way to go IMO due to it's support for the programs most people use the most.

If you have someone to help build the computer with you that will save a TON of money. Putting a computer together yourself means you get a higher end machine for much less. It's not that hard, you can pretty much learn how to do all of it via Youtube tutorials. My husband and I built mine in about half a day (and that included an hour break for lunch and a minor issue we had with the speakers not working that we had to watch several Youtube videos before we found the solution). We did quite a bit of Youtube studying first before we bought our parts to make sure we knew what we where doing, but after that it was fairly easy to do.
