Viewport VS Aux Viewport

What's the difference and which view is the render done from?

Aux Viewport was added to support the 3Delight interactive preview render, to allow a lower resolution preview without aving to do a full render/spot render in the main viewport. Now that 3Delight is no longer part of DS it lacks the extra controls it had for that, but it can still be used as a preview render pane without haveing to switch over the main viewport.

I often use the aux viewport for another angle when I'm doing fiddly stuff like recreating a specific person's face.

I know we can split the main viewport, but being able to have the full real estate od the main zoomed in while having a pulled back view or a profile view on the aux is extremely helpful.

I have had some confusion as to which window the renderer takes, so I usually just set them both to the same camera or tab out of the aux before I hit go.

I had no idea the aux viewport had a specific purpose. I just thought is was superfluous. I general flip between "2 bottom, 1 top" and "2 right, 1 left" depending on the orientation of the render.

The render is done from whichever viewport is currently 'active'. If you click in the viewport(s) or the aux viewport window you'll notice a border outline appears in the highlight colour of whatever theme you've picked. This shows which pane is active and which will be used for rendering.  Any pane can have any camera (or perspective view) selected and Studio will use that if it is selected.

I've now been put on "pre-moderation", so will not be posting further beyond this heads-up message.

The "Daz Moderation Team" in action :

    - ALLOWING a troll to personally attack me in a (very) targeted manner (twice now) without banning him.
    - REMOVING a post about Cloudflare, a post that was in the public's best interest.
    - REMOVING a post about AI, a post that was in the public's best interest.
    - REMOVING a legitimate work of Fantasy while ALLOWING snuff porn links in forum signatures.
    - REMOVING a post that suggested rapists should be met with effective recourse.

They also cherry-picked the removal of every post that defends our right to Fantasy, while granting a demasculated troll, the freedom to comment that the "media" has somehow made "strides" through what is basically the erosion of our freedom of expression.

Thank you. This opens up new possibilities. Hard to believe that I've been using this for over a decade and only realized this now.

I love to use Aux viewport to move Spotlights while watching effects from camera in main one.

Curious: Does this mean your main viewport is usually set to "Single View"? I usually have spotlights in one of the "right" or "bottom" quadrants.

It's faster to have Iray preview in Aux and pose etc. in main, as opposed to both in main. You should try it sometime.

I don't pose with iray preview. If i had multiple monitors, that might work. But I need the scene window and the parameters window open and the content library open when I'm posing. Where would the aux window go?

I would prefer an additional content tab over the Auxiliary viewport

    so much scrolling

fortunately D|S does support drag and drop from Windows Explorer so I usually have a few windows open as well

I don't pose with iray preview either but sometimes I check DoF settings in Aux viewport which is docked to a separate pane group under Content Library. Then I collapse the group if I don't need it ~~

I don't use Aux Viewport at all, it's too small to be of any practical use as I rarely do anything close up.

I just do that in the main view port with 2 right, 1 left or 2 bottom, 1 top. I have a 32 inch monitor. I don't need the figures that big.

Yeah mine is nice and big on a separate left monitor. I've had multi monitor setups for well over 20 years by now. Having 1 is quite unimaginable at this point. Also why BJ Camera Manager has the Aux viewport so deeply ingrained in its design smiley

Yeah Mian view is Camera only, Aux view is a small window on side Panel

LOL I wondered about that when I saw CM. It just isn't something I use much. I also tend not to hide cameras unless they prevent me from clicking on something.
