This is how it goes... something sits in the store and, because it's a digital product and theoretically doesn't run out of stock or have an expiration date, there's a tendency to put it off, thinking "I'll pick that up when it goes on sale for a really good price, because it'll always be there"... and then poof, it's gone. I've missed out on a lot of products over the years this way, and while I did manage to get everything in CCGF's store that I didn't already own before they shut down, at least in this case most of the PA's products are still available, unlike some products/vendors that have simply disappeared completely.
The thread about the upcoming closure had sold me on the hatchback (which had been sitting in my wishlist but I wasn't sure I needed any more vehicles) and the gentlemen's club (which I had not been aware of until then), but I figured there was a possibility that a sale in the meantime might make them (especially the club) a little more affordable.
Ah well.
I actually could have used the club, too. I've bought a couple of strip club assets but haven't been all that happy with either, but this one was almost exactly what I wanted and the additional rooms meant it could also be used for other settings (like a seedy apartment). Now it's on a site that doesn't look like it has sales? (It seems to have member discounts but doesn't say what they are so it's impossible to tell if it's worth joining) The one that got away...
The membership at that site is ridiculously expensive for what you get, and it only knocks $5 off the price of one of the items i wanted, taking it fro $25 to $20. So yeah, I won't be buying anything from there. It sucks.
yeah, sadly I thought I had time, as did the PA announcing their departure
I wish I had just transferred money from my emergency account now and bought what I wanted that very day instead of waiting until payday but thinking I had time was my downfall
I wish I had bought it the day it was released
I wish I had bought it at 76% off too which I had the opportunity to days before
just didn't have the urgency and absolute need to have it
and now it's gone
is it irreplaceable
no
I actually do have plenty of fantasy foods already and can even slice them up with booleans if needed in several programs I have and use the dirty dishes from the other sets too
just a pity
its certainly easier than the banking hoops I would have to jump through because I won't use my Visa debit card online
I mostly use Paypal thee days for that reason as well, but one allternative is to use a prepaid debit card... not all of them work well on line, but many of the major brand ones these days that are marked VISA or Mastercard are specifically advertised as being usable online. What normally causes issues with these is that the online store looks to see if the card's address zip code is registered to your billing address, and the ones that are advertised for use online have an option to register that.
I fell out with Paypal some time ago and I'm now blacklisted after sucessfully suing them for a hefty sum, so that bit doesn't bother me.
However, I would NEVER use a debit card (money taken straight from your bank account) online, only a credit card. You get much more protection from a credit card, plus it means you can keep your money available for longer. Pay it off before the statement date and you don't pay any interest. It also helps your credit rating too.
I was lucky to have gotten those dirty dishes a few days before the store closed down, and for a really good price too!
As for that other store, everything in it screamed "unprofessional" to me. When I first signed up for the store (not newsletters) shortly after it was created, I got a bunch of Mailchimp newsletters in... Hungarian, and the owners of the store when I reached out about being smapped claimed that it was because they were located in Hungary (which I considered to be untrue based on what I know of newsletter service providers). Their product info also looked random, and the licensing seemed all over the place, so I couldn't even figure out quickly, what I could use for commercial renders. So I passed and never returned.
On the plus side, the base price is cheaper on the new store than it was here. The asset I'm interested in is $60 now, it was $75 here.
I always convert the unused portions to an Amazon gift card for myself. You can buy Amazon cards in any amount on the site.
Er... credit cards are often compromised via online shopping and that's even before we get into the fact that someone with the right equipment can scan the information directly from the card in your pocket as you're walking by, which is why I keep my cards in an RFID blocking wallet. That's why what I recomended above was, if one can't use Paypal, to use a prepaid debit card... that's the kind that you can buy in a store to give as a gift, has a set limit.of what's available on the card, and never has any contact with any of your bank accounts. Outside of Paypal, it's about as safe as you can get in this day and age since you pay your money to a store and they electronically transfer the funds to the PPCC company, so even if someone manages to scam the PPCC number, the most they can get is the amount on the card. It's sad, but the banks and CC companies have been aware of these problems for years and have yet to find a way to protect against it.
That's it? Just $5 off some items?
Yeah but sales here regularly run into 80% off, or more with tokens, so if I'd known about it earlier I probably could have picked it up for $15 or less
yeah, i recall having that item in my cart one time for around $6 after tokens, but the cart was huge and I did some of that last minute pruning and i passed on it unfortunately. Probably will never see it at that price again.
Yeah, when I checked a few days ago it would show the discount price with membership on the page, now I don't even see those discounts being shown. Not sure what is going on with that website. A lot of their "subscriber items" are also things that I've gotten for free in the past. I really don't like anything about that site.
I wish GCJ well - I did (reluctantly) buy the one item on my wishlist when the Daz store was closed early, but I won't be back to that site. Kinda makes my skin crawl.
Oh crud. I was hoping it wasn't going to be that one. At one point I was giving benefit of the doubt and even considering a membership, but some interactions I had with the owner last December were solid red flags, and I won't touch it with someone else's ten foot pole anymore.
Glad I had everything except the lobster and the jewelry set. Just sad I won't be able to enjoy anything new.
I'm sure the PA had their reasons for picking it, though, and I hope it works out profitably for them. :)
I had no idea they were leaving as I'm not on the forums much at all these days. I'm really saddened by this. One of the best PAs. Daz really should add a 'last chance' banner before deleting a PA from the store. I know they probably see it as highlighting someone leaving, but they would get a surge in sales from those of us not wanting to miss out!
The PA needs to request that, not Daz just doing it.
